Are you the type to help a "newbie"?

When I first started here, I was really learning as I went along. I started several discussions just so I could understand the way things work here at myLot. Many of you here were very helpful!
I recently helped a "newbie" out with their discussion. I figured that it was the least I could do, as others had done the same for me.
Do you like helping others learn the ropes here?
How about in life? Are you patient with the new cashier at the bank? Are you excited about helping to train the new employee?
OR
Are you easily frustrated with trying to teach new things to people? Is it "just not you thing" to train or teach? Tell me.

I just helped a newbie out on my last discussion (or mabe it was one before last). Anyway I feel good about myself for doing so also.
I think it is nice to have patience with new people everywhere we go. We where all new once ourselves and I hate to see people being rude to them.
If there is a new person in a shop I tell them not to rush or tell them not to panic. I feel sorry for them. You usually get someone in line shouting abuse at these poor people too.
I myself am definitely a trainer. I give my advice to others and always try to help them in everyway I can. It might not be always correct, but at least I try.
A few minutes of my time can make someone smile and can make their day better. Take care.

I like helping other people whether they are new or not. I have seen so much office politics and backstabbing that I don't see a lot of sincere people helping others. What I have seen is people trying to get others in trouble. When I was growing up my mother said it would be different once I was an adult. Unfortunately, times changed, and I do not see a lot of helpers out there.

HI Rocket, I would help a newbie but I am sti;ll one myself. I find it helps me to learn more about mylot when I read how others help the newbies. Me? I am a polite freak. I hate bad manners and try to treat everyone in a caring well mannered way. My kids used to say that if I passed bye a dog I would say
Excuse me'! I do try to help everyone and as a formner teacher I do find it easy to train or assist people. Have a great day.

Hi rocketj1, This is something that I always try to do and I've often been told that I have a lot of patience. Whether that is true or not I do try to be patient when I know the employee is new. Here on this site I sometimes welcome those who are just getting started and give them a few tips. Blessings.

I certainly don't know it all yet either. I like to help others out too.
How have you been, jo? I haven't been on here much. My son had a jazz band concert to play last night and my parents came over and spent the night. It was a good time! I haven't run across too many of your replies here today. Wondering how you've been feeling. I know that you didn't have the heart cath test. Still doing ok? heidi

Hi ya rocketj1
I am always the first to put my hand up and offer people help if I think I can and if I think I might know more about something than they do. I cannot teach my son anything though. Like I was trying to teach him to swim and half way through trying to explain to him what he had to do he said he knew what to do and off he went, walking on the floor of the pool doing a crawl stroke. I told him that if he couldn't listen to me then I couldn't teach him. I have also tried to teach him to play a musical instrument and he did exactly the same. I wait for him to come to me and ask me how to do something so then I know that he is keen enough to want to learn and will listen.

My son is just like that! Not so much my daughter. I know lots of people who home school and I can't even imagine doing that with my kids. What a struggle that would be! AAAAAA!!!
Thanks for your response! I haven't been on here as much lately, we've had lots of extracurricular stuff going on. It's always good to chat with you!

It is indeed good to help newbies and welcome them in every program that we are in because most of the new people need guide so I myself always want to guide other people in some new things because I still remember when I was still a newbie, there are lots of questions that I always ask and it is time for me to repay or put it in the newbies..:-0 God bless and have a nice day..:-0

I think you are right. Helping the newbies and welcoming them into the programs is good for guidance. We were once new at one time and we may have needed the help also. That is good of you to think of repaying others because you were in their shoes at one time.
Take care and you are a helpful person it seems.

Speaking as a "newbie" here I know that I appreciate all the help I can get. I noticed people really do try to help as the discussion this morning that I started was asking for help with my PC. I hate this thing and I wish you were all just lounging around in my living room having coffee with me. anyway the problem was solved. Of course I still messed up and marked the wrong box for best answer. I still do have a question though. What did the first answer here mean when they said rate everyone?

Yes I do try to help newbies. I made a blog and even given my email address so that newbies can email me if they encounter any difficulty. I also respond to newbies when they do send me messages. I don't mind trying to help and teach others. © ronaldinu 2008

I will help newbies and I also try to do quite a few no response as well. I think it makes a better community when we have a good attitude. It always feels good when our topics are supported and its very nice to do that for others. I appreciate all your posts. Have a great one!

I think this is a site of a give and take, like yourself when I started here in mylot, there has been numerous mylotters who helped me in many ways, and I am grateful to them, in the same manner, I am helping and even responding to newbies if they have questions the best I know of. It definitely feels good when someone do you a favor and the same time, you do likewise. No matter where we are I think its best thing to help others as well, Its a virtue we all need to hold on.

I try to ALWAYS help the newbies in myLot & in life. None of us go into a job knowing exactly how to do it. Even if we know how to do the job, there is always something the new employer wants done a little differently. So, I do my best to be patient with anyone new at their job!!!

Think about it, we both have a lot of discussions under our belts, yet with 3-4 months experience, we are technically still newbies ourselves!!!
