Effective November 17, 2008, Moneybookers is suspending service for US customers who send money internationally. Unfortunately, this means we must suspend payments to all myLot users who can only receive payment through Moneybookers. Effective immediately, if you live in any of the countries listed at the end of this message, you will only be allowed to receive payments through PayPal and must enter a PayPal email address in your payment preferences.
If you originally had the option to choose between Moneybookers and PayPal, you no longer have this option and will only be able to receive earnings through PayPal. To verify you situation, please login to your account and click the preferences link at the top of the page. On the preferences page you will see four tabs, first click on the account information tab. In the country of residence field, please make sure you select your country and click update. Next, please click on the payment information tab. Toward the bottom, there is a field for you to enter either your PayPal or Moneybookers email address. If it says PayPal, you must enter a PayPal email address in order to continue receiving payments from myLot.
If it says to enter a Moneybookers email address then please do so now as on or about November 14th, 2008, we will send payments to everyone who has updated their Moneybookers email address and has accumulated a minimum of $4.50 in earnings. Anything under $4.50 will not be paid out at this time. Going forward, you can still participate in myLot and continue to earn, but you will be unable to receive payments until such time that PayPal is offered in your country of residence.
If you have always used PayPal or have entered your PayPal email address in the past, this issue does not affect you. Our next PayPal payout will be on or before December 15th, 2008, for those people who have accumulated a minimum of $10 by November 30th, 2008.
We apologize for this unfortunate event and are constantly working to find alternate payment methods. In the mean time, the only viable payment option available is PayPal.

I can see this coming actually. I'm just glad I change my payment method last month -- from moneybookers to paypal. Well, I wasn't really satisfied with moneybookers since they charge really big for money transfers. I used moneybookers on my first 2 payments. I had an accumulated amount of about $27 but I only received $13 after I made a transfer to my local bank account. Shucks! I lost more than half of my mylot earnings! And so, I'm not really surprised this is happening right now, I guess, moneybookers have received so many complaints about the amount of their charges. At least mylot is thoughtful enough to let everybody know about this issue. Thanks to mylot people!

This is a shame. I am fortunate that it will not affect me as I have only ever used Paypal but I know some users on this site say they cannot get Paypal. What happens to them? I do not understand why moneybookers would do this. Could it have something to do with the financial crisis in America at the moment?

I guess this has something to do with terrorism related money transfer controls.
Pre 9/11 it was no hassle to move money around the world for small people.
Now there are a lot of forms to fill and hurdles to cross before even legitimate money transfers can take place. Of course the really keen people find ways.
But in the meantime, I guess PayPal who have robust systems are the only service people from many countries can still use. It will get increasingly tough to open PayPal accounts for people living in high risk countries.
Sad but realistic.

Good thing that Philippines is included in the list. When I saw the alert warning, I thought it was a message that my account will be suspended.
Anyway, this will be a good start for something new. It's been a long time since myLot is sending me some alerts and updates about the site.

I use Paypal but can you use Alertpay, Revolution Money Exchange or E-Gold as some other sites do? I do not know all of the details for a place such as yours but just throwing out some thoughts. Thanks.

Oh, well. Can you do check with fees? Just brainstorming, although I know little about this business, lol.
Anyway, I am sure it will all work out in the end. Hopefully, Paypal does not mess you up. I know that these money exchange sites can cause troubles.

What about countries that PayPal doesn't support or not listed in MyLot updated list? Should we just leave MyLot?

Hello mylot admin. Thank you so much for this information. I am glad that I use Paypal and don't have the problem of getting my earnings via moneybook. But I am sorry for the inconvenience caused to moneybook users. I hope that they will get a paypal account at their convenience. Have a good day.

It is good that Mylot has informed members in time enough for them to make the change before the next payout. I am not sure how hard it is to get a paypal account in other countries, but the list Mylot provided seems very extensive, so I guess it covers everyone here on Mylot.
My advise to those who do not yet have Paypal is to signup right away.

This will not affect me at all. As I have used paypal as my method to recive any funds I have earned on this site. I am wondering thou if it will affect any members leaving or the difference in discussions we will see. I have never heard of Moneybookers til I read the alert. So, I am sure how good of a service it was to begin with. But from what I have read so far in the discussion. It didn't sound very good the way they charged people.

Good morning Mylot!
At first, I was disappointed for the new payment method update because as far as I know my country was not included in paypal's list of countries. But then again, I have found our country in the list. I'm glad I could still receive payments from Mylot. Hopefully you could still provide other payment option for other Mylot members.
Thank you.

Thank God! my country is on the list. All my payout has been with moneybooker and I am bit sad because I am going to loss something I was use to using already. I hope paypal is as good as moneybooker. I have not try withdrawing or transferring my money from this payment processor. I hope there is not much problem.

There are many people from the Philippines who successfully receive earnings from myLot and withdraw it from PayPal every month.

Most of the mylotters will not be able to take part in Mylot if this thing is done and we are left to the mercy of paypal only.I think ALERTPAY is the best option. Why donot you go for it ??

I know that I am nobody but then I still want to say that it is very stupid of Moneybookers to come out with such policy. I hope that people would stop using them and let them go out of business.
I am lucky as I have been enjoying the availability of PayPal in my country but I feel sorry for those who do not have the luxury of such options. I hope that they would not just quit as PayPal is expanding their services all the time, including more and more country in their list.
I wonder if myLot is considering other alternative payment processor. AlertPay is available to most countries out there. May be myLot can take a look at that.
Have a nice weekends people!
