I had the same problems with Norton; I had the Internet security suite, and it was nothing but trouble. My new Dell came with the PC-Cillin antivirus and Internet security system, and I think that it's great. I have had no problems at all, and it has virus definition updates available constantly, so I think that they're on top of things.

Yeah Norton consumes a lot of system memory and really slows down the PC..so you can try Kaspersky or PC-Cillin(I am using it)..
Or the best of all is BitDefender Anti virus.

I would recommend you using AVG Antivirus Free Edition.. it's very light on System Resources and best part.. it's available for Free! Being Free doesn't mean that AVG Antivirus doesn't provides good protection.. it provides good protection from Viruses.. I've been using it since 3-4 years on my PC.. even at my workplace I've suggested it's use and it is installed on almost every PC! So.. go ahead and give it a Try! It's one good Alternative to those Resource Hungry AntiViruses (Norton & McAfee)

I like McAfee antivirus and their wirewall. Norton is a pain in the neck. I found that it slowed down my computer as well- no matter what I did with the settings, Norton didn't work well for me. I also have several spyware protection programs that I run weekly.

It is true that unless you have good RAM in your computer, your computer may slow down if you uses Norton. The best antivirus available is AOL which has a shield to protect from viruses. Other good antiviruss are Commodo antivirus. AVG is also a good antivirus, . All the computer in my office was catched by one virus " the most wanted man" It could be recognised only by AVG and it removed the virus.
