Are you a hoarder or not?
My hubby says I am but I think not, I just like to keep stuff and if allowed would like to keep much more.
We are unable to sort our loft out as we can not decide which way to do it, I want to do it one way and hubby wants to do it another way and we just can't agree which way! The problem is we just put stuff up there so there is no real order to begin with.
In an ideal world I would like an extra house where I could store the stuff then I could keep everything!!
So I suppose i am a hoarder!!

Yup, pack-rat is what my mom used to always call me too, LOL. I think hoarders is the politically correct way to refer to it. :) Things don't get thrown away because "Oh, well I can use that for making (insert item here) later on!" Thank goodness I haven't gone as far as saving dryer lint!

I'd like to think I'm not a hoarder, but I probably am. I save things I'll realistically probably never have time to use again. I have been getting better though, I've FreeCycled tons of stuff so that I don't just have things sitting around not being used.

My husband is the hoarder in this family ,thank goodness he has his garage ,mind you we moved a year ago got rid of stuff but it seems to be growing again. How about if you each get half of the loft ,hang hooks for stuff that can be hung up ,some sort of shelving wide spaces to store boxes etc to create more space, sort books, clothes ,don't forget to tissue paper and moth ball them or hire one of them long term containers for a few years and turn your loft into a beautiful retreat just for you.cheers

No way, I can't say that I am. I have moved several times with new home purchases and to a different state with my current job. In moving so much lots of things get thrown out or just lost in the move. In my day to day life lots of things get thrown out because if it doesn't have a place out it goes. Sometimes this is not so good because there will be something I knew I had but then threw out because it was in the way or tried to narrow down for a move. This then means that eventually I will have to by that item again.

Guess everyone is that way if any for a little bit. Keeping things that we have collected or um not wanting to get rid of something someone gave us and we don't want them to know. Or we keep things thinking oh I migt need that later. We have a storage shed we rent that has those items....lol But I will say we are in the process of buy totes to go through it all and sart getting rid of things and only keep items that we really really think we ned to keep. You know things from the past that has meaning for us. Time we get done packing up and sorting we will no longer have to rent a storage.

I do not think I am really a hoarder but I do put things away because I think I can use them again then I forget all about them and months later unexpectedly find them and then throw them out...which I should have done at first.

i am a hoarder to certain extent. i keep a lot of decorative paper aa well as odds and ends that i might be able to use for scrapbooking or card or gift tag making, you just never know when you can use them.
the key is to know what to keep and what to get rid of.

I am keen on collecting costume dolls from around the world, foreign currency and postcards from different places. I have two antique dolls and many dolls in my loft that I used to collect when I was younger. I like to do clutter clearing. Ideally I wish to have a place for everything and everything in its place. I think I am a bit of a hoarder but I wish that I wasn't. If you get an extra house I am sure you and your husband will soon fill it full of possessions.

I used to be a hoarder until I had a house fire that wiped all of my things out. I changed then and stopped hoarding now it is the rest of my family that seems to hoard and I am the meanie that goes around throwing it all out!

Hoarder. If I get something and do not get rid of it right away it soon becomes "mine" and I cannot get rid of it. When I moved a number of years ago I got rid of all my extra stuff but have since accumulated a pile again. Unfortunately it takes time to sort through the stuff. I do not know why I do it. At one time our ancestors in Canada that lived on farms had huge barns and attics to store stuff in, but now most people live in apartments or smaller houses with no attics so you have to be a non-hoarder. I think it must be genetic because there are people fill their house with stuff with little paths in between the junk when the hoarding becomes pathological.

Nope i am not. I know I have the tendency to be like that. so I am trying to control that and I think I succeeded.
I throw away stuff that i didnt look for for a year. I love to collect stuff but it didnt go to the point that I would have boxes and boxes of stuff that i dont need.

I guess it depends on what exactly you mean by hoarder. There are a few things that I collect obsessively, primarily books and DVDs. It sucks when having to move. But other than that, not so much. At least I'm also somewhat compulsive about keeping my collected and hoarded items well organized.

oh yes im a terrible hoarder. When we moved in to this house 8 years ago now we had to put 2 households together and as you can imagine some awkward decisions had to be made. Well, essentially my husband had to hide things so he could get rid of them later
blessed be

i like to keep little old things, but not much. it's more for sentimental reasons like letters and old written articles or personal gifts. but i collect books, video and music cdS, and some really old coins. they're not that plenty, but i like to keep collecting books because i love to read and re-read them through the years. i give away old clothes, toys, shoes, etc. so am not really a hoarder, lol.

"But I can't get rid of it! I may need it some day!" Well I live alone in a 3 bedroom mobile home and with all the furniture I've accumulated and all my mother's books and records, and all my craft stuff, and all the little trinkets my kids and grandkids have given me over the years, and all the stuff my youngest daughter wanted to keep, but has no place for yet, I barely have room to put up a guest in the guest room, so yes, I guess I'm a hoarder.

I'm not a hoarder, I throw everything away that I know I don't need. My husband is a hoarder. It makes me crazy how he wants to save EVERYTHING.
I always tell him, throw that away you don't need it.

Hi ya Anne18
Sometimes I hoard stuff and then I decide to declutter quite quickly after. The only thngs up in my loft are things that I know I will need some day like suitcases, kids summer clothes (that they don't seem to need ever) and the Christmas decs!
