I Didn't Sign Up For This...

This morning I googled my first and last name and 2 things came up that bothered me. One was on Facebook where 2 ppl have my same first name and last name. One lives in Ohio and one lives in Michigan. I can’t very well demand they remove it b/c maybe there are 2 more ppl with my same name out there…but it’s still irritating.
The second one really ticked me off. It was on Reunion.com and they had my name, age, the city and town where I live on there. I’ve never had a reunion account and sure did not sign up for one. They also had my Moms name and two of my brothers listed on there. I happen to know for a fact that one of my brothers just got a PC and I know he didn't sign up for that. I sent them a message demanding it all be deleted.
I can’t believe that ppl can sign up for things with no regard to a person’s privacy and then you have to fight to get it removed. I figure if I want to look ppl up I'll do it on my own.
Have you ever found your name on a site that you didn’t sign up for? Has someone else that knows you ever signed you up for an account on a site? Do you ever google your name?

You can't really object to people who have the same name as you. They were born and christened that way, no doubt, and have just as much right to their names as you do!
I agree that sites like reunion.com are a little more annoying but you have to be aware that your name is out there on the Internet for anyone to find. There are searchable phone directories, voting registers and all sorts which are available to anyone either for free or for a small fee.
Yahoo and many other sites have a People Search. This site is one of many that specialises in searching public records http://www.intelius.com/ ... try your name there. This is where sites like Reunion.com derive their information from and, sadly, there is nothing you can do about it!

Anyone in your faily could have put the family names in the reunion site. It was that way in ancestry.com My husband did a lot of research on his last name and supplied the most information anyone had on their name in the record of them recording things. They told him that, then every year they wanted to charge him and everyone else for all the information on the family that he had spent time entering into their data base. It's not right but that's what they do.

Actually i am sure that i would find my name on reunions.com because i know my cousins wife has been researching our family for YEARS and since she has found ancestors back in the 1600's i am sure i show up on it. As for other people having my same name i seriously doubt it, but if they do all i can say is they have a good name and i hope they are as proud of it as i am .LOL

They can get information about you that you do not have to give permission for. Many things are just public record. That is how people track down lost friends or even criminals. No one probably gave this information to them. It is just public record. You can get people's phone numbers, addresses and the like from all sorts of sources. Phone books, census records, birth certificates (for a fee) are all available for the public to look through. They should not however be able to get account #s or social security #s etc. General information is available all over the internet.

if you live in the states, go to www.zabasearch.com
and you will probably find even your address there.

Someone used my email address to sign up for a credit reporting company...to get a free credit report. Considering the spelling of my name, I figured someone hacked in and got my info. You can bet I felt pretty violated when I saw the email. I immediately reported it to the company, and since it was through my email I was able to go in and cancel the account.

is this sort of public directory where people can submit your name and everyone on your family? it sounds like a place where people can find their old friends in school. if you have to sign up for it then I guess it is a good idea to get it deleted. but if it is public directory there won't be much you can do I think.
The ones on facebook, have you checked them out? They might be real people not trying to duplicate your identity. They were just born with similar names.

Well my name is the same name used in a tv show so I don't even bother to look up my name anymore becaues of that cause all I get is a bunch of links to the tv show that was on like before I was born and all so yeah and there are alot of people with my name sence it is a farly popular name in america. You can find my full name on the internet the only way you can actually find me is if you put in what state I am in. I never had a experience where they had my actual information its always been someone else with my name. So I have never had my personal info out like that out there unless it was for the business that I registared with the state and all.

There's not much you can do about people having the same name as you. That's going to happen. I love that all the people with my same name are also creative - writers, poets, a scuptor (or is that scupltress?).
No, I've never found myself on a site where I did not put me. I'm not sure how I would feel about that.

Something similar happened, not to me, but to my boyfriend..... He keeps getting phone calls on his cell phone from a company selling medical insurance. First of all they claim that he signed up for the information or did a web search for it, but he swears up and down that he did not. Neither of us have jobs right now, so there's no reason why we would even try to search for insurance that we can not afford. They just keep calling, about once a day. He just lets voice mail pick up then he deletes the message. Some website out there is selling information or something. We just can't figure out where the information came from. Neither one of us went to any site about insurance at all.

Reunion.com and sites like that get your information from public records. Your address and phone # are listed in phone directories. Sometimes the phone # is all that is needed to find someone. I was even on a site that if you knew the person's name and date of birth, they would give you a list of all the places they had lived in the past 10 years or so. Most of that information is a matter of public record, if you know where to go to get it, and I am not just talking about on line, either.
