Same time, different program!

I was at a meeting the other night and was sat there waiting and hoping that it would be over soon so I could get home and watch one of my very favourite programs of all time 'I'm a Celebrity, Get me out of Here!'. Now I know it isn't everyones cup of tea and it got me thinking. What if I had someone living with me who really hated the program and most certainly didn't want to watch it? I am lucky, I can rush home, stick the tv on and watch what the heck I like, no questions asked, I rule the remote control!
So what do you guys do when someone in your house wants to watch something that you don't want to? Do you surrender the remote and watch what they want to and miss your favourite program? Do you demand to watch your program as you refuse to miss it? Do you go to another room in the house where there is another tv and watch it there? Or something else?

I won't say any derogatory comments about that particular program my friend because it's not place to judge but I hate it LOL! Seriously though my dad watches 15 hours of tv a day and he is well and truly in control of the remote and the trash he watches would send me cuckoo and calling for the men in white coats! I leave him to it, I am not a tv person and the tv I want to watch I quite happily escape to the solace of my bedroom to watch on my small portable. I love Emmerdale and Taggart as well as Heartbeat, dad doesn't like any of them but it makes no problem, we all sit as a family to watch Coronation Street but apart from that I am more than happy to snuggle up in bed and watch my few favourite programs each week.

Hi ya wolfie34
Wow that is a lot of tv your dad watches there. He doesn't watch Jeremy Kyle does he? I can't it down and watch tv during the day, it doesn't seem right some how and I have always got things to do and no time to sit infront of the telly! It is nice that you sit as a family to watch a family program though.
Cheers

I hardly watch any TV Humbug and can't remember the last time that I sat down to watch something that I alone wanted to see. Of course The Boss is the boss and she always had first choice. (I think that she might disagree with that. LOL.) There is always BBc iPlayer and the other channels have something similar so if I really wanted to see something I could watch it there. There is aTV in the computer too, so as a last resort one of us could come here.

Hi ya p1kef1sh
That's good that tv doesn't control your life in any way whatsoever. I was told that you need to be careful if you download a lot of programs online because it takes up a lot of your allowance and even though providers do say you have unlimited downloads it is not so, they all have a maximum you can download and you can exceed that if you download programs easily and end up with a hefty bill!

There are not too many shows that I just HAVE to watch. I can watch whatever else anyone else is watching unless , of course, it is the 3 millionth time that we are watching "The suite life of Zack and Cody" or "Hannah Montana" on the Disney channel with my daughter! I will not sit down for those.
My husband will often go upstairs to watch sports if there's a big game on. If I'm watching something he doesn't like he will often read a book while I watch and vice versa.

Hiya Humbug,
I don't watch much telly, not since I found the net but I love I'm a Celeb, so my kids sort of know that I'm watching it and they accept it because it's not often I want what I want on. We have a couple of tellys in our house so it's not to much of a problem if we want to watch different programs.

Hi there scorpio19
I don't watch a lot of tv really either, I spend most of my time online like you but everything stops for Celeb!! My kids are in bed by the time it is on anyway or else I would have to fight them for the tv over the game cube but then I can watch it in my room if it ever came to it. All for a quiet life me!

Hi there 23uday
That is a very good question my friend! Here in England some channels give us the option to watch it an hour later but not all channels offer this so I would try and watch the one that didn't or watch it online later.
Thanks for your response

Luckily my roommate and I have the same favorites. Though there are a few shows I watch that she refuses to like House. So I just go to another room. If I'm hanging out with my brother he usually takes the remote away from me! Brothers! Grr! It all really depends on how much I like the show. If I plead with my brother or roommate they usually give in.
It's awesome that you have total control over the remote. That is one dream I think everyone shares.
One good thing about shows and stations today... You can usually watch the show online the next day. I do that a lot if I have to work during a show.
My Dad and Mom used to go back and forth on what to watch when it was their bed time. My Dad got tired of arguing and bought a very small flat screen and mounted it on the wall on his side of the bed. So he could watch what he wanted and her likewise. LOL! He was a crazy man but funny.
Happy Mylotting!!

I control my mind and I can tune off quickly and easily. TV never bothered me, not even the inane local programs. Cheers!!

hi humbug!
i had that problem months ago.
I share a house with my sister and a friend (whom i know from my university's english club). He once had a tv in his room but he sold it when he has to moved (due to some office assignment). My sister and i put our tv in the living room, seeing that our room is small enough already to store our stuff, a tv inside the room is out of the question ;)
Then, this friend move back in (again, due to some office assignment). And since he used to watch tv, he's been dominating our tv ever since! He usually went home earlier then us, so by the time we got home, he's been in front of the tv already, watching to a program intently!
I dont really care since i dont watch tv that much, but sister's having a love affair with tv so she mind. And once, being a sly she is, she asked me to asked him to move his butt from the chair. Older sister seems to do dirty works for younger sister lol.
Boyfriend said that he's violating our generosity and i concurred. Because even when i asked nicely, i have to do that numerous times. Because he'll keep on saying how good the movie he's watching and such. And i have to keep on saying, "yeah, but i dont want to watch that. I want to watch THIS!"
So it's only natural that when he broke my sister's dvd player, i pressed him to buy a new one to replaced it. My sister bought that from her saving when she's not working yet, while that friend already worked for a long time.
Oh. do i whine too much? lol.
Anyway, that's not a problem anymore now. Since my sister left the house to be closer to her work place. And she brought the tv AND the new dvd player with her ;)

It still depends. If that someone is just a visitor and will stay with me for 1 or 2 days, maybe I will give in and let her choose whatever she wants to watch. But if that someone will be living to me for good, I would never surrender the remote, lol! But it still depends actually. We can talk about it to avoid some arguments.

TiVo is a digital video recorder company that really popularized DVRs in the states. A lot of people use "TiVo" and "DVR" synonymously. "TiVo" is even used as a verb here, lol. I agree DVRs are awesome, although mine are NOT TiVos. I generally don't mind watching what my husband watches, although sometimes he doesn't like the "chick" stuff I watch. Plus, we have 3 TVs in the house, each with a DVR, so we don't have to worry about fights breaking out much. :)

We have five tellys in our house so we can all get to a telly if needed. If we didn't then in the day time the children would get first pick and in the evening we would have to decide what we were going to watch.
Duringthe week as hubby is at work all night I can watch wath I want to, weekends we normally want to watch the same things which is good as we can also sit together

Yea. at a time there are different programs in different channels. some programs are very good. but cannot see at a time. the good programs are the same time in different channels. so it is very difficult to see all programs easily.
