When you put your name in google, how popular are you? Do you see your name?

I thought I would try this, it was something new and I was curious. I typed my name into the Google search engine and I was really surprised! The whole first page of google was devoted to me except for one entry, some chap with the same name as me on the other side of the world had committed an assault! That was definitely not me! Anyway, I learnt something by doing this. The more things that you do online whether it be keeping blogs, writing articles, participating in online forums, you will find yourself being displayed on the google search engine. You can decide for yourself whether this is a good idea or not. I think that it's an excellent idea as people trying to find you particularly family members. I don't know if any of you contributed to a particular discussion of mine but, this particular discussion mentioned that I had been contacted by a lost family member. I hadn't been in touch with any of the family and the only way that I was found was by this particular family member putting my name into google. I have a far healthier respect for the Internet as a result of this. Try putting your full name into Google, what do you find? Andrew

Yes and it's rather unusual because my name is actually 2 first names. The same exact spelling comes up to!

That's funny! Well, at least on an ego trip you don't have to bring sunscreen! LOL!

That's really interesting! I found this task quite interesting too when I found the whole page devoted to me bar one entry. I guess it's good to see your name displayed on the Internet. I'm going to write some more and hopefully I will see more of myself online! I guess I'm going on one of those lovely ego trips! Andrew

There's always a danger that others will try and use your information against you. I guess that caution has to be exercised as to what you reveal on the net. Anyway, I'm really pleased with this test, I was pleasantly surprised! Andrew

Wow, this is great. This is the first time I have tried this and I was really amazed. You are right, the more you do online, the more results with your name appears. Practically I found my name on the results practically occupying the first up to the 7th result. Then on the 8th and 10th. On the next page my name still appears though not as many as on the first page. Most of the results are my blogs, and my postings. Great of you to share this.

When I read this I just had to give it a go, and although there was not much of me (not spread myself around the internet much) there were a few things that made me feel quite proud. It brought all my helium stuff up and a few other things. I did realise that there are quite a lot of people with my name though, that was weird and they are all very successful!

That's terrific that you found stuff on yourself in relation to Helium! I too have some articles published on Helium and they all showed up on the first page. I did find one entry that was not mine and this chap was living on the other side of the world, he had also committed a string of assaults! I hope that I'm not confused with this wacky character! Good luck with your writings on Helium. Andrew

I actually just tried this and there was a directory of all the sites I'm on. I also found out that I was a contest winner for a bottle of perfume from Flare magazine in 2004. Unfortunitly I didn't receive it. Maybe I"ll email them lol
Thanks for the info

I saw an picture of an girl that has my first and last name. She looks nothing like me. But, I have not researched my name again lately. But, this is my first and last name included. My last name is my married name though. But, i will put in my first and last name from my maiden name this time. And, I will see what results that I will get then. I am unsure of how popular that I am.

I was very surprised at seeing all my details. I enjoyed it too though. I can just say to my friends, insert my name and see what you come up with. Andrew

That's interesting! Do you keep blogs and things or do you write articles? You will probably be able to pinpoint yourself if you do these things. I try to remain active on a daily basis so I guess I'm constantly updating my blogs and so forth. Andrew

Yes, after reading your post, I did the same and wow I also got similar results albeit at reduced scale (only few entries) as my online activities are very limited.

I would probably say you would be inundated with hits! Brown is quite a popular name and there are lots of people that go by that name! Have you tried inserting your full name? Anyway, you may find something on yourself! Good luck. Andrew

It's really nice when you can see how busy you have been online! I had a whole page devoted to me except for that one entry, I don't know where he came from! Anyway, this is good for family members that are trying to grab hold of you. Andrew

I noticed that about my own name too! It showed up an entry from My Lot. I guess people can read about the discussions you are creating too! This was just a new thing, something I wanted to try, very curious I guess! Andrew
