Is it just me or do the holidays help inhance anxiety? Stressing about everything! It takes away from the joy and fun that the holidays are all about. How do you relax? How do you handle anxiety?

Depending how bad your anxiety is you may want to see your doctor. Sometimes they can prescribe you meds to help, it doesn't need to be tranquilizers although those work the best. They have things like beta blockers which will help keep your blood pressure lower thus keeping anxiety and overall body arousal a little lower. Trying distracting your self, spend time with someone who you enjoy. Try meditating or using deep breathing. If you feel like your having a panic attack just remind your self your in control. Panic attacks stem from a feeling of "loss of control". As long as you remember this simple theory, you can't have a panic attack. This doesn't mean your anxiety wont be high because mine still is sometimes when your on the verge of a panic attack. But take deep breathes and remind your self your in control. If you have a good friend or lover they often help you'll mostlikely never have one with them.

Anxiety runs in my family, my father has agoraphobia and I have a touch of it also. I have to take valerian or a small dose of a benzo. I also practice deep breathing etc. which helps, but I require total silence for it to work.

I've got the same problem right now. Everything seems to pile up just around the holidays for some reason. I think I'll keep it simple with Christmas this year. I'll be staying in town because traveling around the holidays is very stressful. Thanks for bringing this up, its a huge issue for a lot of people.

The holidays can be very stressful. If this is for the family why stress? They love ya anyway, huh? But to unstress take a hot bath or shower, meditate, visualizations are good, and alittle exercise. All of these are great for destressers.

I think if people understand what their stressers are and are aware of them and when they are worse then they can find ways to adjust and strengthen themselves. Meditation/visualization before a know upcoming situation helps me and I am sure could help others.

I like to keep things simple. It's hard to restrict yourself sometimes and not go completely all out. I've learned with my anxiety though that keeping on top of things and simplifying as much as possible always works best. That and working out! When I have anxiety attacks, I hop right on the treadmill and literally walk my worries away. You have no idea how much 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise can help ease anxiety! I'd recommend it to anyone!
