So, how long do you REALLY want to live?

We fight so hard to stay healthy, live longer, etc., but how old would you want to live to, 100, 110? Think about it!! I do not want to love long enough to outlive another child or my grandchild. I have done it once, and do not wish to again. I do not want to live long enough that everyone I know is gone. I do not want to live long enough that I am no longer independent. How about you? By the way, here is a good article about anti-aging: http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2008/11/18/incredible-innovations-to-slow-down-aging.aspx Enjoy

I'm almost 72 and I'm not anywhere near ready to kick the bucket. As long as I can live independently and do the things I want to do, I plan to just keep going. If my health fails to the point where I can't live alone, I will probably find a way to stop living. I can't imagine a worse nightmare than being helpless and having to depend on other people for your most basic needs. I certainly have no intention of ever being shut up in an old folk's home.

I've been in that situation only once, when I had orthepedic surgery and was confined to my third floor apartment for a couple of months, dependent on others even for food. What would it be like to know that things would be that way and even worse, til the end of your days, with no hope of escape? Good luck to you in staying healthy from here on out.

Why Janet, why? You're just 54 years and have a long long time (if God wills). I'm 52 and feel I have so much time ahead of me (again if God wills). I would love to see my grandchildren and great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Okay, lets get serious. I would love to live as long I am not depending on anyone, both physically or mentally. Enjoy yourself now. You would have had your share of work.

Oh, I never said that I am ready to go. I want to live as long as I possibly can but I do not want to, as I said above, live if I cannot take care of myself and pray that I will go before my remaining child and granddaughter (or other grandchildren, if she has more), die. I lost my son 4.5 years ago and the horror of it is something that I never want to relive, ever. My hopes are to live another 40-50 years, be productive, enjoy life, friends and family. But when life is no longer worth living, I hope that God looks down and says, "It's time. Come on home."

I think considering how long people are living these days, we will not be really outliving that many others. I feel as long as my life is good and it is full of fun and other people , I want to live as long as I can.

Well, I have a number in mind - 70; and that's good enough for me. I don't want to live until all my parts are worn out, and I'm a burden to my loved ones, financially and emotionally.

I am 60 and all my parts are in good working order, I would not be happy with only ten years left!

I want to live as long as God lets me before calling me home. I do Agree it would be tough to go on longer than your children and loved ones, but I would be comforted in knowing that I will see them again. I also agree quality of life is an issue. I can't say that I would want to live stuck in a bed for years. I pray this isn't my fate. I would however like to live long enough to see the changes that happen in going to space, technologies, medicine, etc.. Good food for thought question you asked. God Bless

I dont really want to live more 80 years give or take, depending on how my body will be in the future. If I am still healthy I wouldnt mind living 100 years. But once I start not being able to get out of bed or play soccer or walk by myself, theres no point in living much longer because most of your joys in your life are gone.

I agree. I do not want to just exist nor be so sad from losses of others that I just ant to leave.

I would like to grow old up enough to see my son settled in his life. Perhaps having a stable job and get married with a wonderful wife and having kids. I would like to be a grand father having young ones to hold and take care of. Like you I don;t want to be dependent on others. © ronaldinu 2008

I turn 58 in a few hours and, if I were to pass on, I'd say I'd lived long enough. I don't care about how long I live, as I know that it is not my choice and no amount of worrying about it will help.
