Keep practicing, you can improve..My average was 33-34 WPM with either one or no mistakes..What I am struggling with now is trying to use excel and word to merge address and letters and making labels..My daughter has Word, but I think it is a much different version than the tutorial I have..So I guess my practice there will be watching the video over and over again..

I am a 'blind touch' typist. I don't look at the keys when I am typing. My fingers have eyes lol. the more I look at the keys the more mistakes I make. I don't count how many discussion I respond in a day but I post about 2-3 discussions in a day. I can't reply to many responders if I were to post many discussions.

I havent taken a test in a while the last one I took I typed 88WPM. However that was on my work keyboard at home i have a laptop and i cant only type like 65. I think it is because I can not feel the keys as well on a laptop as my work PC is a desktop and the keyboard is more prominent.

English is includes parts from several languages making it very difficult to learn. American English is worse because of the "melting pot" of cultures. All I can say is keep practicing, listen to English on radio, tapes, or TV or continue reading it on sites like this and ask people about phrases or words you don't understand. I wish you luck. I know a little from several languages but not enough to make myself understood in any of them so I am Impressed by you and others who can.

i know how to type but i am not a fast typist. Average. When I was in my school days my brother in law thought me how to type and he let me to work as a clerk in my cousins office where he was working also. from there I can learn to type. And now we still have our typewriter but I noticed the difference between them. The keys of our typewriter is in different places, they are not the same place in keys of computer keyboard. Anyway I can type as many post as i can if I am inspired.

I only type as four fingers allow me to.
No I have all my fingers and thumbs. I just use 2 or 4 fingers usually.
I took typing but dropped out of it before I learned much.
You'd figure after nearly 20 years of using a puter I'd type very fast.
But noooo.
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

you do a lot here at MYLot with only 2 fingers. I think that if you used all 10 you would be at least 95 WPM.

Well, way back in 1984 I had to type 45 words a minute to get a job and I passed with 53 wpm.
I have since done 10 years of data entry so my time has improved.
I really have no idea how fast I type now, but... how many discussions I start or respond to have really no relationship to how fast I type. It only relates to how fast I work thru a discussion I'm starting or responding to.
I often as not, don't find ANY that I feel like responding to - well, this one obviously!

At last check I was up to 74 wpm, I'm sure I've gone down since then but maybe to 65. I took typing in Jr. High, I got laughed at but while all the guys I played sports with were mowing laws during the summer I was working at a law firm where it was nice and cool so there! Here is a link for a typing test, enjoy. http://blackdog4kids.com/games/word/typing.html

I can type quite fast, although I don't know what my speed is. While this is useful in terms of getting things done more quickly, I don't think that it's really that important to be able to type quickly. As long as you manage to do what you want to do, that's the important thing. I don't start that many discussions, I'll only start one when I think of something pressing that I want to know! And I respond to as many discussions that I have time to answer, and for which I have something to say. This is normally constrained by how long my daughter naps, and what else I have to do during the day.

I type pretty fast. I've never clocked it to see exactly how fast I type. I know I make a lot of typos and have use the backspace button a lot! I use it so much that I know where it is without even looking. Half the time I don't even notice I'm using it.
So far as how many discussions I start or respond to, I don't really keep track of that either. I don't have a set goal or anything, I start a discussion when something pops into my head, and I respond to any that I see worthy of responding to.

I get around 38 wpm but, I have noticed a lot more mistakes and a distinct slowdown since I started using this ergonomic keyboard. I also get more cramping in my hands which is the opposite of the result it's supposed to cause. I plan on switching today sometime.
I do find my speed increasing on all keyboards as I spend more time writing online.

Wow this is a nice topic. I am an average typist, I only type about 50-55 words per minute but I think that's fair enough knowing that I only use 2 fingers in each hand when I type. I started using typewriter when I was in high school and I seldom type until I reached college. Our feasibility study requires typing so I had no choice. In a group of four I was the one chosen by my three colleagues to type because they notice that I'm the fastest among us all. Then when I got work after graduation in college in a call center industry, my typing speed became about 60 wpm (words per minute.) I usually start 2-3 discussion per week here in mylot because I prefer responding to topics. In an average day I can respond about 10-15 topics here and that depends on the length of my answer and the time I'm consuming. When I feel tired and sleepy I stop mylotting so it all depends on the reasons I've mentioned.

I can type fast, real fast. Don't always pay attention to what I am typing until I am finished and then proof it. It's been so many years since I was tested for my typing speed but it was close to 100 wpm. If I keep my nails trimmed my speed is even faster. I tend to let them grow too long and they get in the way. My responses to discussions varies. I may only do a few one day and then many the next. Depends on the amount of time I have during the day when I am home. Rarely do I start any discussions although this week I have started 6. Can't always think of anything exciting to say that will warrant many responses.

I am a little faster at typing than I was 20 years ago, but not that much. It's funny that you started this discussion, because I was curious yesterday and took an online test at one of those free typing test sites.
I can actually type 75 words per minute now, that's according to the test. I guess that's not too bad. Although I was hoping for more. LOL
I usually only start one or two discussions a day. More if I can think of anything. Sometimes none, I guess. Although, I usually try to respond to at least 30. This keeps my earnings up a little bit. But I don't always find time to do that many.
What about you? How many discussions do you usually start in a day? And how many do you respond to on average?
Thanks for starting this discussion, and have a great day!

I typed 80 WPM in high school, on a manual typewriter, but that was back in 1970, so who knows where I am now. I am SURE that I am probably about 25/30 WPM now, and not as accurate. But, that is okay, because we have spell check, grammar check, cut and paste and can fix any errors, unlike the days of the typewriter where you had to start over if you messed up!! LOL

Haha, we were the stone ages, NO WHITE OUT!! LOL
If we messed up, we started over.
I liked it when, years later, I had a typewriter that would erase the last line that you did. Once you got to the next line, it was white out, or the new thing that was a piece of paper you put over the word and retyped it. It whited out the word and you could then type over it right away. I forget what it was called.
When I was able to type on an electric typewriter in my second year of typing in high school, that was the bomb. I loved it.
Of course then I upgraded to a Brother word processor and WOW, that was awesome. After that I got a more advanced one that was like a basic computer and even had email but no internet.
I remember the first computers, before Windows. It was all DOS with black background and green letters. No mouse and the floppy disks were huge. It is amazing how far we have come!

I remember those old typewriters. I would be amazed at how fast folks could go and not make mistakes. or they would get the White-out!

Green letters, orange letters, I went to business School to learn data processing and programming in 1986 when that was all there was. The first typewriter I had regular access to was an old Underwood from the 1920's or 30's. Moving from that to electric was great for speed but, I got out of practice over the years

Hello ,
Back when I was still in high school I was so slow with my typing and had a horrible teacher and was always nervous in her class . Anyway ! it would take me double the time than most people to type out a paper . I was so slow in my class it was so impossible with me . I would always look down and chicken peck type . I think once we got a computer of our own at home i caught on and little by little i got real good The last few years I am a pretty fast typer and for the most part i dont look down at all , and i think that is so wonderful !
You know in a day i usually will post off and on . I answer about 20 post with in about 2 hrs . That is with me doing other work off and on too . i am sure if i spent about one hr straight on mylot non stop i could do 25 an hr . I am not sure . i get lost in a post sometimes and will spend like 5 mins on one .

My typing speed is 35 to 40 words per minute. My speed is only average speed. I have no limit to start discussions. If I want to start new discussion, I started there is no limit for one week. If I am not interested to start any discussion I didn't start any discussions four or five days. Starting the discussion is depending on the interest and topic we have start is also very important to got more responses from fellow myLottotters. If I don't have any topic to start new I won't start few days. Generally I won't start simple and very common discussions means that discussions already started by others. If you want to give more responses it is not only depending on typing speed I think its depending on time how long would you spend in this. Happy to share your views. Happy myLotting.
