Have you ever been worried about your job? I was last week. They laid of 18 people, some of them been there a long time. They closed down our building and i had to work at our other facility. Nobody knew what was happening. It's back to normal this week and we opened our facility back up. It was very scary thinking that i might be unemployed. How are you doing at your job?

Some time ago the comopany I work for gave all the truck drivers a say in what we wanted to do, as there was not a lot of work to keep us all on the road. We had the choice of some staff being laid off or else all staying but working reduced hours. That is doing less trips away each week. Most of us voted for less trips and then a few of the drivers went elsewhere for what they thought would be full time jobs but in a couple of instances it didn't work out that way. Those of us who stayed with the company had a bit more driving with less drivers on the staff and many of us were owned a fair bit in holidays so we opted to take some of those as well. All it means is that when things pick up, we will not be in a position to need to take our holidays so can drive. For example I have had most of this past week off which is why I have been here on myLot but today I received a phone call to say the company has a major contract. This contract means 10 trucks will be doing 2 long haul trips each a week and that will take us 4 days for both trips up and back. In between there will be some trips of a shorter distance which are usually for just over a day. It is a fairly large contract and will keep us busy for a few months and then hopefully we will be back carting produce to markets each day. I am not sure yet whether the same drivers will be used for the entire contract or if they will share it around. For a while I was concerned what was going to happen. Yes we have our small farm which I could put more time into but it doesn't yet make enough to keep us and oay the mortgage let alone allow for more deveopment. So I agree that at times it can be scary when thinking about what could happen with my job.

Thanks for giving me best response missybear and it is appreciated. I have been lucky so far as I have had at least one short haul return trip each week and in fact managed to get 2 last week. So that means I still have some holidays up my sleeve if I ever need to take them. This week I have a trip on Thursday afternoon and probably be away till Saturday. That will count as 3 days work plus of course we are paid for the trips (loads) that we carry.

I am in a teaching profession and the government is my employer so I do not worry about getting fired out or being out of work. However, most of my brothers are in call centers business and since US economy's down, we are worried that their company might close too since even though they are in the Philippines, their clients are the Americans and so far, they lose too much client all ready but we are still hoping for the best.

With the global financial crisis hitting, every day the media reported that some companys were closed down,as the result , the unemployment rate is increasing. It means hundreds of thousands of people lose their jobs and they cann't find a new job at once.I am one of them.I quited my job two weeks ago. At this moment ,I donn't anxious to search a new job beacuse I think this time is a good opportunity to inrich myself.but I agree with the idea that do not quit the job before you find a new job.OK,everyboby, come on.i wish everyone have a good future.

Well, actually,I resigned last month, because I'm not optimistic about the development of my company. I have spent nearly two months to find a new job.Not to be expected that,it's much harder than before to change a job. So,I give an advice, that's those who have a job should work hard and cherish this job, those who want to change a job don't resign during the global economic crisis. Thanks!Wish everybody a good job!Bless you!
