Very Intereting question. Israel have learned the lesson of strikes at a time not of their choosing. In this case having made the point that it was a political decision, the Israelis may be considering a strile when America is least focussed abroad. What better time say, December/January next when Administrations are moving offices?

Well Iran sees a chance to take over Iran or at least put people in charge they that they can control. They are going to take it. Plus if they keep Iraq unstable. It keeps us there spending trillions we can not afford to spend. We are in an ecomonic crisis and they see a chance to break us like we did Russia. As for what is going to happen. Well that depends on who is president. Obama may decide to our losses and leave Iraq to fend for themselves. Or he may decide to stay and and try to help Iraq. Bush never should have gone into Iraq. Suddam while a bad man kept Iran in check.

The news is implying that it's all about the weapons. Do you think that is the case, or is there more involved?

It is about more than the weapons. It is about greed, power, control, and a crazy little man in Iran.

sorry I mean to also talk about Isreal. Well now that Iran does not have to worry about Suddam, they ARE going to go after Irseal. The best we can hope for is some kind of agreement to peace talks. We can not afford another war. We really can not afford to help out Israel. But to tell you the truth enless Iran goes nuclear I think Israel can take care of itself.

Whatever part, if any, the U.S. takes, I hope we tread very carefully. I won't pretend to have all the answers here but I have the feeling the cowboy diplomacy the current Administration has used won't cut it now. I tend to hope we mind our own business until it's impossible to do so. Annie

Most of the "cowboys" I know aren't of the same mentality of the politicians in Washington - and would probably take offense at the comparison! When it is necessary to protect American citizens, our country needs to take immediate and assertive action. Sometimes that means that there is a current threat, and sometimes that means that it is necessary to take preemptive action to prevent what has the potential of becoming a threat. We would be negligent if we sat back and waited until we are attacked and lives are lost before we take action. I do feel that we have many issues that need to be addressed immediately in our own country and those should ALWAYS take priority.

Hopefully we will have no part in it. Israel is moe than capable of handling Iran. They took on 3 countries at once by themselves back in the 60's and devestated them all in a matter of days. We have enough on our plates as it is. It's time to stop the entanglements we have, finish up our loose ends and start focusing on our own problems for a while. If they want to buy weapons from us, fine, sell them weapons, we can use the money. If they want diplomatic support, fine, we can do that too. but another military front is not something this country needs right now.

This is very true - we have many, many problems here at home that need to be addressed.

caviet: IF Iran in retaliation, decides as it has threatened to, to stike our military in the region, then, and only then, we should repsond with unapologetic and obliterating force.

You are very correct - we must always appropriately act when our military and/or any of our citizens are in danger.

Israel does not need our help so I don't see the U.S. playing any direct role in this. Israel has said all along that Iran will reach a point where their nuclear facilities will be destroyed if they don't voluntarily stop their nuclear program so it comes as no surprise that Israel is making threats now. I had also heard something months ago about them striking Iran during the transition period. Personally, I believe that Israel has the right to protect itself from a country that has vowed to destroy them *before* they develop the nuclear capability to do so.

Yes, every country has the right to protect themselves and that means they will have weapons.

Some countried have established, via action or rhetoric, that they do not have the right to possess weapons that can directly threaten others, especially their neighbors. Iran does have the right to protect itself but it does not have the right to become the aggressor, which is what it became once it stated to publicly threaten Israel.

I hope we do not send our men and women. It is time we stepped back because they all complain about us being "instigators" anyway.
