I felt so stupid/dumb last night!

Okay here's the story......
I have bad memory most likely due to many years of drug abuse etc.
This burnt many brain cells I am sure.
But at times I can't recall things that happened just 5 minutes ago.
Last night for example, there is a waiter where my wife works. He and I have many deep thoguht provoking conversations each time we see each other. We have known each other for sometime as well. We see each other a few times a week at least as well. Now for some odd reasopn last night I could not recall his name for the life of me. This caused me not to say anything to him as I like calling people by their name when I talk to them. So after a few minutes I had to ask my wife what his name was again. I felt so dumb/stupid etc asking. So are their times your memory TOTALLY fails you in situations like this forgetting a friends name? IS your memory sharp or very dull? What do you think the reason it is sharp or dull also?

Some days I feel my memory is very sharp then other days I think I am going crazy. hahaha It is usually the simple things that I might have a hard time recalling. My mother taught me if I forget someone's name to go through the alphabet and more times than not the name will come to me when I get to the letter that the name starts with.

It is a strange thing, memory that is.
I can recall things from 45 years ago then at times can't recall 5 minutes ago.

It's no big deal.
That happens to everyone.
I'm sure it will pass and your
memory for names will be better.
Maybe just need to rest the gray cells
a bit!
As for my own memory, it's so bad at times,
that I can't boil water on the stove for fear
that I'll forget it. And, then the whole kitchen
will catch on fire.
That's pretty bad.
Just busy with other mom stuff.
And, Mylot. That's a pretty big
distraction for me.

HEY now!
You calling me gray and old now are ya?
It has a lot to do with age as well in my case I think.
I've cooked bread cubes for bread pudding for 3 hours in the past. How can one forget that something was in the stove that long? Especially feeling all the extra heat generated throiughpout the house?

This happens to us all. Most of the time it is me reminding my hubby of a name or event. But this happened to me just this morning. I have been doing some research on natural forms of diuretics to help with the swelling after a c-section. And for the life of me I couldn't remember the word diuretics. I'd just chalk it up to a minor brain fart.

Don't worry, GB - you are definitely not alone! I find I can remember things from a long time ago, but have a hard time recalling what my husband was wearing when he went to work in the mornings! My children say I ask them the same questions time and time again - and they accuse me of not listening to the answers! For some reason, short term memory seems to be increasingly hard to keep hold of, and my mind very often just goes blank. It's a frightening thing indeed.

My daughter, just above this response, asked about where's my coffee.
I am ALWAYS setting a cup in the microwave to reheat.
Then I forget about it until I go to make me another cup.
Oh I never recall what my wife wears either.
I always ask the same things over plus I also talk about things I had just finished talking about.

I just grabbed a can of Coke for dinner.
Now after eating I heated up a cup of coffee.
Guess what?
As I got into the office my pop is sitting there opened and not a sip taken.

I think this can happen to us all, but you did say you are good with names. Maybe you where tired. Maybe that new glasses machine you told us about that tested your eyes zapped your brain temporarely. If this happens often though get it checked out. Do not worry about feeling stupid, you want to see what I do and say sometimes. I say things back to front everyday, and sometimes write it on here too.

Nop[e, I wa nt tired at the time.
His name was just gone.
My mind a blank.
Maybe the drops and machines and lights did zap my memory recall etc.

From time to time that actually does happen to me as well. Sometimes I have known the people for twenty years or more. I attribute this memory skip to tiredness, or stress. I can see where you think you perhaps fried some brain cells.

I wonder at times if theres more to this than just my memory
going for that period. Maybe it is something more permanent.

I am usually great with names and all.
But last night was odd for this reason.
I mean I talk to this guy a LOT during the week.
That's what made it hard for me really.

That's okay grandpa bob....we all do this from time to time...I hate it when I can't remember someones name..Then I go through the alphabet to figure it out....lol
Your mind must have been on something else and when it came time to recall his name you just drew a blank..
My mind is really good...but there are times I wonder.....lol

I sometimes forget names too, especially if they are unusual names, or if they don't seem to fit the person..Three examples are, 1.I ran into this woman I knew from this church I used to go to, but I have no idea what her name was, because it was different..2. Then I met up with this guy from the same church, and I recognized him, but didn't know until he started talking to me that I knew who he was..3. And in my youngest daughters girl scout troop was this girl whose name was Lindsey, but she looked way too much like my older daughters friend Ashley and I have called this girl the wrong name many times..

Well I think we all go through that sometimes, when we just completely forget things, and names and people. I know I do that, I had some memory loss one time, it used to scare me, because I would be at the store or something, and then I would just completely forget what I was doing there, or what I needed, it felt like I was in a fog or something, but I had gotten an infection in my brain, and I had water on my brain and thats what was causing the memory loss, but it was awful sometimes, it was like I had been asleep and I just woke up and I didn't know where I was or what I was doing. I finally got over it tho...have a good day

I've talked to people at my A.A. club that I know but never recalled their names. Of course being me, I never asked their name either.

I hate when my brain farts :) I usually have a good memory, but it seems since I have turned thirty, my brain farts and I can't think of what I want to say :( There are times where I am in a conversation and can't think of the specific word I want to use. Then after the face, I remember the word. But this happens to the best of us and you are not alone :)

Once turned 50 my brain farts started to stink.
But it bites trying to recall a name no matter how hard I try.

Don't feel bad, you're not alone. Last year about this time, I forgot a friend's name for a whole weekend! Then late one night it came to me and I suddenly said it out loud. And it's not just people's names, either. Someone asked me what kind of plant (clematis) was on my arbor... as soon as I opened my mouth to answer, it flew out and I couldn't get it back till later that day.
Then there's the scenario where a parent will go through the whole list of names before they hit on the one of the child standing in front of them...
This is called being normal.

I think we all suffer from brain memory lapses from time to time...I usually have a great memory actually...like an elephant and yes can remember names...but sometimes when I take my glasses off for awhile, I go about my business without them...then I need to put my glasses back on and ....uh, where did I put them? Or how about this winner. Sometimes I literally come charging into a room with the intent of finding something or doing something in that room, but once in the room I stand like an idiot and wonder...what did I come in here for????

I use to be really good with names. But now it seems I recognize a face and for the life of me I can't recall their name until they walk off or can't remember it at all. I even do this sometimes with co-workers that I see everyday.
For me I think my brain is on overload drive, and pulling a name out at the moment that I need to just escapes me.

Hi Grandpa Bob, I wouldn't feel too embarrassed by it, I guess we all do it from time to time. I have delibrately blanked certain things from my memory so long periods of my past are hazy. I do suffer what I call short term memory loss though for example I will go into the kitchen for something get there and not be able to remember what I had gone in for. I don't know the reasons, age maybe. Huggles. Ellie :D

Ever since I remember I had trouble with names. Sometimes I don't even know where I know the person from. It's a problem with face recognition for me. But I learend to work my way around it for the most part. Sometimes it still gets embarrassing. Nothing I can do about it. Everything else works fine memorywise unless I'm very tired. Then I can sometimes not remember what I even did five minutes ago.
