i saw one of these for the first time at the scrapbooking retreat i went to in october. it's a great way to use up some of your scrap pieces of paper. and all it takes is a inexpensive cookie sheet and packages of round magnets. you simply move a magnet over each day.

What a cute idea! Not being brought up to recognize Advent, we never did Advent calenders. I have one friend who set up a garland of (fake) evergreens and every day had their son hang another ornament on it until they finally took the ornaments off and decorated the tree on Christmas Eve with them and others. I thought that was an interesting way to recognize the season.

It was when they decided that decorating the tree earlier than the 24th was somehow not recognizing the fast of Advent. It also made special the hanging of the daily ornament with a prayer.

That's really cute! I might have to add this to the list of things to make this year.

We have a tradition since we have kids at home: we have a big red bag, with small bags inside, two for each day since we have 2 boys (there was a time when we have my little princess too but she is with God now...). From December 1st till 24, they pick a bag each one, the bag with that day's number, with a small chocolate inside. For each bag took, an old toy or something they don't use anymore, must be inserted. So, at 24st, we have a red bag full of small things to carry out to a children's home, to help other children have a small Christmas too. This Christmas, the bag will be divided for two supporting houses of our neighborhood. We do this to help our sons learn the Christmas spirit, helping others that deserve to have a Christmas, like they deserve, too.

that is so wonderful. my s/o headed up a 'turkey' drive this year for one of the shelters. instead of turkeys he got together with one of the grocery stores, and the gave the shelter a $750 gift card, so they could get whatever food they needed for their thanksgiving dinner. just one more way law enforcement gives back to the community they serve.
