pin number reversal

GOOD TO KNOW If you should ever be forced by a robber to withdraw money from an ATM machine, you can notify the police by entering your Pin # in reverse. For example if your pin number is 1234 then you would put in 4321. The ATM recognizes that your pin number is backwards from the ATM card you placed in machine. The machine will still give you the money you requested, but unknown to the robber, the police will be immediately dispatched to help you. This information was broadcast on FOX TV and it states that it is seldom used because people don't know it exists.

I've read a discussion similar to that here in mylot. I wonder if one's pin is 1221, when you reverse it, it's still 1221.

The technology exists, but I don't know it it's implemented anyway. I don't know about nos. like pallindrome. I guess it is recommended that customers should exercise due caution and must always be aware of the surroundings.

Hmm, now that's an interesting question. Some numbers, palindromes, are the same forwards and backwards. I guess for anyone who knows about this technology, they would obviously pick a number that is NOT like that. But for those who only learn about it later, I wonder if you can change your PIN Number. It seems like you would be able to. Hmm.

Wow...icedtea...what absolutely fantastic info! I absolutely was totally unaware that this techology was in place! Makes me feel a little more comfortable around the ATM's! Do you also program ICE in your cell phone? We do it in BC...so that if the paramedics find you in a "non compus mentis" state, they will just press the letters I.C.E. on your cell phone, (which means "in case of emergency") and they will immediately be connected to the person that you have designated, eg., Husband, Mother, Father, son, daughter, etc. If you are not carrying I.D. at the time, they are able to identify you this way.....and be apprised of any health issues, eg., diabetic, epipleptic, etc. Thanks for the ATM advice...and have a great weekend!

That's incredible....do you know if it works in England? It's a brilliant idea though and would give you a huge piece of mind knowing the police would soon be there to help.

I never knew about that. I'd be willing to bet that when I tell my friends/family members about this, that they will say that they also never knew about this. This is VERY helpful and useful information. Thank you SO much for sharing this with us!
