Shar19 Ideally it makes sense to save as you're younger which I was able to do for a time. However, things come up and life happens. Then you're back to square one. Oh well, one day at a time.

Shar19 I understand about having plants that want to go outside. I have two hibiscus plants that we bring indoors every fall. Funny thing is they bloom indoors beautifully in October and November. I can't wait for warmer weather to transition them back outside.

Shar19 Counseling can be a great help as long as both people are willing to go and do the work that is required to make the relationship better and stronger.

Shar19 I agree. It does take two. Both people have to want to make the changes for the better. If someone goes back to their "old" ways then obviously the counseling didn't work because they didn't stick to their "new" ways to make things better.

Shar19 You are lucky to have a strong bond. How long have you been married? I hope that it stays that way and you keep that bond. At least your friends tried the counseling so that was a step in the right direction even though it didn't work out for them.

Shar19 It takes two to make it work. If one person doesn't want the help or even try to fix things then it isn't going to get any better. I'm glad that in the end it all worked out for you.

Shar19 I agree. A professional can sit back and listen to both sides of the story without being judgemental and offer some good advice.

Shar19 You were so smart to get out of that marriage. Some people have so many warning signs but still don't get out. You're right both people have to want to make it work and they have to be honest with each other.

Shar19 It is nice to be able to get advice from an elderly person who has been through marriage and tough times. They can sometimes give a lot of good advice. Although I believe that at times people need to seek the advice of a professional.

Shar19 That is a big problem right there - when one person doesn't or won't go to get help. It is like they are saying they don't care enough to save the marriage. You are better off being without a person like that.

Shar19 I think that is a great idea. There should be some kind of mandatory "marriage tune-up" course, maybe after every 5 years or so. That would probably save a lot of marriages.

Shar19 You are correct, marriage takes a lot of work and will only work if both people are commited to making it work. If one person doesn't try hard enough to keep it going strong then they must not care enough.
