Last night i read the bible, i was able to finish the book of Mark. Then i suddenly realize that in the time of Jesus, there is only one christian group which is led by Jesus. And after Jesus died he left the ministry to the apostles. I assume that these apostle worked only in one church and did not establish churches of their own.
But now there are a lot of sect and religions. How can we be sure that this is the church that Jesus has built? In the first century christians there is only church so for this time i bet that there should only be one. But where it is? and what's its name. Tonight i'll be reading Acts of the aspostles hoping to find some answers.
Hope to hear responses from you guys.

I would suggest you read John 17:3. Pray for guidance. Hope this helps in your journey of seeking the true religion.
God bless!

Yes I did. I would suggest that you pray and directly ask HIM that if He really has a group of people or a religion here on earth, make way for you to meet them fast. Seek for his help and guidance. Trust Him more than you trust your heart. This will definitely help your searching.

I believe that no one religion is the "true" religion. I believe you must seek God and when you do he will let you know in your heart what is right and wrong and where you should be in life as far as religions etc. You will know you are in the right religion because you will feel it in your heart.

it is so difficult to find a true religion,
u can see all the teachers and preechers of the religions saying their religion is good and it is the only way to god.but is it all true?
there comes the role of our brain, just go through the holy books, but u can see so many miths and fables in all the religions and also u can see so many wonderful thearies which makes ur path to god,u can take all the positives in all the religions and u hav the rite to not take the negatives and leave it.
the ways of philosophers are the examples of it,they taught us how to think how to react how to find etc,so be a follower of philosophers and find out the answers.

The Bible teaches that it is 'not' by works (what
WE do to appear good), but by 'faith' alone in
Jesus.
It says in Ephesians chapter 2 and verses 8 & 9 :
8. for it is by grace (which is undeserved favor),
through "faith" that you are saved, and not of yourself
;
it is God's gift to you,(vs. 9) not from your works, lest anyone
should boast (brag about what they've done.
You don't do good works - helping the needy/poor to GET
favor with God - but because His nature within, (after you've
accepted Jesus),will work through you.
This all comes about through learning, and the choices we
make, concerning Jesus. He said that if one didn't accept
Him - - they "would" accept another, and He is the way, the
truth, and the light.

I agree with what classycat said here. in Christianity, it's not through good works and service that you attain salvation. The bible actually makes it very clear that it is only through believing in Jesus Christ that you can be saved.
I think this is where Christianity differs from the rest of religions. Other religions out there talk about how you should be a good person and you will get to heaven, attain nirvana and what not. However, for Christianity, it focuses on the person called Jesus. It is not man's works that makes him righteous, for if that was so, all of us would not get to heaven. For man is sinful in nature, no good can be found in him. However, it is only through Christ that you can be made holy and righteous with God.
If good works could get you to heaven, then it focuses everything on us rather on Jesus. However, nothing we do can ever make us attain that salvation because it only comes from Jesus.

There were many churches at that time... There were churches in Corinth, Ephesus, Galatia, Jerusalem, Smyrna, Sardis, etc... But as to unity in their beliefs, the apostles were there to correct any heresies and false teachings... and the teachings of the apostles and of Jesus himself are recorded in the Bible... if you want to find out which beliefs are true, then look to the teachings of jesus about himself and also that of the apostles... I suggest you keep on reading and I pray that God may give you understanding as you seek the truth... :)

Hi there
I am starting a Bible study online. The teachings are just what the
Bible says, and not too long. My first one will go out on 12/01/08
If you would like to join, you are more than welcome, and can
drop out anytime you feel to do so. They will go out once a month,
on the first of each month.
Religion is not the answer - but a 'relationship' with God is.
I will be sharing many varied subjects, including what the
Bible says about the prophecies that are yet to be fullfilled,
concerning a great and horrible war against Israel - and the
return of Jesus Christ to the earth.
You can email me at:
studyonline@jps.net
God bless you. I'll be praying that you find what you are
looking for

My aunt shared with me some very wise words that my great grandfather said to her. It makes a whole lot of sense to me. I'm cutting and pasting their conversatioin below:
"Once when I was very young, the adults were discussing some churches and the dissension among them. Being puzzled I went to Grandpa and asked “Why are there so many kinds of churches?” After a brief hesitation he said, “Do you remember going fishing with me at Beard’s Lake? We caught different kinds of fish because we had different kinds of bait. Well, people are a bit like fish. God loves us all and wants all of us to come to Him so he is a bit like a fisherman. I believe all the different churches are God’s bait to get us all to come to Him.” My first lesson in tolerance and I understood."

The first step to find which is the true religion is to expand your search beyond one religion. If you only look in the Bible you will never find your answer. Read the holy books of other religions and you may find that the answer you are seeking lies in the teaching of someone other than Jesus. You will never know if you don't look.

It is simple. Go back to the source, the teachings of Christ. He spelled it all out with Sermon on the Mount. The main thing is to love your enemies. That's why I Know I am not Christian.I could never follow this edit.So I am not a Christian. If there is a group calling themselves Christian but they Do hate their enemeies, how Christian are they really?

Hello mxzero, that is a very complex topic and it would be a good idea to read up a lot more on it. There have been a number of major splits in the Christian Church since the time of Jesus. The most significant ones being the establishment of the Protestant or Calvinist Churches in the 16th Century and the split between the Roman Catholic Church and the Orthodox Churches in the first Millenium. These Greek and Russian Orthodox Churches claim to be closer to the original church teachings. This may be true, but there is a period of about 300 years before the bible and gospels, as we know them today, were put together. As you probably know there are many Gospels not included in the modern bible and at one stage it was considered including the mystical Kabbala.
The early Christian Church saw it's popularity spread among the Roman underground, but did not become the official Church until the Emperor Constantine. So during this "grey" period of 300 years, there was no one Christian group and many of the beliefs we have today come from a mixture of different ideas from these undergroud movements.
It's a huge, but very interesting topic. All the best. Umart

I believe it was Jesus who said "you will know them by their fruits." Does what any particular church teach measure up with scripture? If it does then you can trust it. If not, have should have your suspicions.

Dear mxzero,
I am also in the same quest of truth. You should indeed visit my blog www.theevolvingreligion.blogspot.com . The post General Awareness over the World Religions should help you a lot. See, if you believe in the God of Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad, I strongly recommend you to learn more about Islam from an impartial website, Quran (translation by Yusuf Ali) or a any good book. moreover, I request you to learn more about the history of Christianity, does bible says exactly what Jesus says, when the Bible was writen etc. This may help you a lot. You can question the concept of Trinity by your own logic. And ponder over the creation of the universe and think is it apt to say that God has begotten a son! Try to broaden your mind as much a s possible.
Do visit my blog (please don't think I am asking that to promote my blog, but indeed that will help you)
With love and regards.

Overwings makes a great point. I am Roman Catholic and I've been raised to believe that my religion is the true religion. As I've gotten older, I've come to believe that the religion that you practice is much less important to God than the way that you live. Pray. Live a good moral life. Treat everyone you meet with the same respect that you would like to receive. Help others who need help. Proof? I don't think that you'll ever find it. If there was actual proof, there would only be one religion.

As far as I know, Jesus didn't establish religion, he was teaching some ideas and his followers grew and made religion: catholic, etc. Most religions take only a part of Jesus teachings and intepreted as their sect interest. That's only I know.

It is quite possible (probable, in fact) that no religion is the "true religion".

Being a religious fanatic I myself would say that you are definitely correct in wondering where this true religion is.
We have a man a church that says he is the direct decent of Paul and yet he does seem to resemble the man and almost looks like a second cousin.
To learn and understand a religion is of the highest order and the more we read the more we find out.
That is the good food and water that Jesus talked about also.
Crocket.

Hi;
First of all I suggest U to complete your bible, although it takes time but its the best way to search the truth.Secondly pray to God to lead U to the Best path because I think ,at this age the right path can only be guided by Allah.
The follower of every religion will say that he is on the right path but my opinion is to search the truth your self.Because it will satisfy your inner.
I only request you to visit this site once, again its U who will decide about right and wrong.

First I want to say good luck in your searches, you may have a long road ahead, but if it is Christianity that you want to believe in God will lead you in the right direction. Here is a list of passages you should read for further help:
James 1: 3-6
John 10:16
Start with that and let me know what you think. Then I'll have some more for you to read! Good Luck again!

While you ask "...which is the true religion?", you seem to be speaking exclusively of the Christian faith. So it seems you are asking which denomination of Christianity is the correct one to follow. I will answer from that perspective. I personally don't believe that the true legacy of Jesus rests in any church. As you read the Bible, meditate on the life example and actual teachings of Jesus. Regardless of what church you attend or what denomination you affiliate with, no one who truly claims to be Christian can debate that point. The life and words of Jesus I believe are a much better guide than any preacher or specific dogmatic doctrine. But ultimately, let your heart be your guide. Go out and experience various denominations -- their practices and beliefs. If you are in need of a "church family", go with the one that makes you feel most comfortable and welcomed.
