XP, you need a very powerful computer to run vista and it will still be very slow compared to XP. XP is secure enough if you need more security what you need is Linux.

i think i like vista so much... not only because of it's new complete makeover but it's design also... the GUI are so much better than windows xp and i really like the AERO effects such as 3D Aero Flip, the glass effects, and new taskbar and also it's speed... but windows vista also do have a disadvantage... one of the disadvantage are its high hardware requirements... in order to just install vista and run it smoothly, you need 1GB of RAM, at least 128MB of graphics card, DVD burner supported and a lot of stuffs... but i think nowadays, the computer parts prices are so much cheaper and coming down constantly so i think everyone can afford using windows vista for now... but most people think that windows vista aren't stable OS yet unlike windows xp... but so far i'm using windows vista, i pretty much didn't experience any downtime with it... i'm thinking that if you have the best system, your vista won't crash... so far for me, i think windows xp is the most stable OS produced by microsoft... a lot of people now still using windows xp because they afraid that vista might be laggy and slow... i hope the upcoming OS from microsoft, windows 7 would be so much better and improved than vista... let's hope windows 7 would be the ultimate OS just like windows xp was...
