I'm thinking about getting my family a video game system for Christmas. I've already gotten my sister a Nintendo DS because she's been bugging me about it for a while now. so that leaves a Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3. my family is big on Role Playing games like final fantasy (which I know is on PS) does Nintendo have any good RPG titles? Which system is your favorite and why?

I would recommend PS3, especially when you said that your family likes RPGs..there's a lot more choices of rpg games for ps3 than other consoles..and also, ps3 has more games than the others..but it really depends on the user

Thanks for you're input. I'll keep in mind about how many games the PS3's has when I go to GameStop and check out the three consoles first hand. My only hope is that when I do get around to buying another final fantasy title, It isn't as badly done as Final Fantasy XII.

This is a really good discussion because video games are really important in peoples lives, because they are an excellent source of entertainment especially if you are bored,or if you have nothing to do,and if it is a cold day,or if it is snowing outside or if it is a rainy day,or if it a wet day because it was recently raining or if it just one of those days you do not want to leave the house then video games are a perfect thing to help you pass the time, and video games are also a good way to relieve stress and I think there is nothing better to help get out frustration then slaughtering aliens that are trying to take over the Earth like in the games Halo and Halo 3,and I am sure there are a lot of people out there who like video games and they have one console gaming system or maybe a couple of console gaming systems that they prefer to play games on,and then there are probably people who prefer hand held gaming systems and prefer playing games on those instead of console gaming systems, and there are probably people out there who either do not have a favorite console gaming system or hand held gaming system because they do not like spending much time playing video games,or they are usually very busy and do not have time to play video games,or because they have things they prefer to do in their spare time other than playing video games, and then I am sure there are people who hate video games and think that they are nothing but trouble, and all they do is cause kids to be violent and hateful to others which I think is a load of crap, especially those type of people have probably never played a video game in their life, and it is not right to judge something without actually trying it,that is cool that you got your sister a Nintendo DS because she had been bugging you to get her one and I have always been a big gamer and video games have always been one of my favorite pastimes and when I was a kid whenever I was not sleeping, watching television,or on the computer I was playing a video game, and even now that I am with my fiance I still love video games and my fiance likes video games as well, and right now we have a Nintendo 64, a Nintendo Game Cube,a X-box,and a Halo 3 Edition X-box 360 which is my favorite because it is something I always wanted,I like the X-box 360 because it has good graphics and it has the ability to turn the system on or off with the controller and it has a good game selection like the game Halo 3 which is only on the X-box 360 and that is part of the reason I wanted it,and the other reason is because I love the Splinter Cell series and Splinter Cell Conviction is coming out only on the X-box 360,PC,and DS I think and I want to get it to finish my collection of Splinter Cell games, another thing I like is that if you get a hard drive you can play X-box games on X-box 360 which is really awesome so you can buy X-box games and save a little money instead of having to buy 360 games which are sometimes expensive, and then my brother has a PlayStation 3 which he likes a lot and he wanted it because of Metal Gear Solid 4 because he loves the Metal Gear Solid series, and he likes the graphics and he also has the ability to turn it on or off with the controller, and he also has blue ray which is pretty neat, and it has a pretty good selection of games as well, and the thing he does not like is that he can not play PlayStation 2 games on it but he can play PlayStation 1 games on it,and they have Final Fantasy 13 coming out for the PlayStation 3 and the X-box 360,and then my fiance wants a Nintendo Wii my cousin has a Nintendo Wii and she likes it because it allows you to get more involved in the games and it allows you to get exercise at the same time which is awesome, and when me and my fiance visited my cousin we got to play it and it was a lot of fun and it has a good selection of games and I hear you can play Game Cube games on the Wii which is neat, and Nintendo has some pretty cool sort of role playing games called the Legend of Zelda which are neat, since you can get them on Game Cube and a few of them are on the Wii and right now I am playing Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time on the Nintendo 64,and you have to get Spiritual Stones, and then you have to beat temples so you can awake the sages to help you against the evil Ganon which wants to take over Hyrule and right now I am about to go after the Spiritual Stone of Water and it is a lot of fun,and I think the system that you should get depends on the games you like and if you want an idea of what games are on what system go to Game Stop.com because they have a good selection of games, and you can see most of the games on each system,I hope this helps you out with your choice.

Very informative and thank you! I'll do that and go to GameStop to check out the three consoles first hand. Personally I love the Legend of Zelda and Super Mario series, as well as Final Fantasy, but I'm not a big fan of shelling out hundreds of dollars for many systems all at one. You see, I've got a Playstation 2, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, an SF Twin (Super Nintendo and Nintendo Entertainment System compatibility), Game Cube, A Super Gameboy, A Gameboy, and a slightly more usable than broken Nintendo DS... Oh and a broken Gameboy Advanced floating around here somewhere. I did not acquire these systems all at once. nor was I able to purchase them the day they came out. My problem lies in deciding which one to get right now because I am such a die hard Zelda and Final Fantasy fan. But as I said, I'll base my decision on what I'd like to see out of a console. Thanks for you're input, you really were a big help.

It completely depends on your preference for gaming. I think the Wii is best for families because there are so many casual games. They have a few good RPG's out too, but none are as extensive as the one's you will see on Xbox and PS3. That might change, though. In my house, Xbox 360 is the favorite for my brother. He's big on RPGs and music games like Rock Band.

Xbox 360 all the way. It looks cool, has great graphics, great games, and can have a wireless connection. You can even turn it off by just using the controller.
