Do I need to defrag my HD occasionally? How often you defrag your PC?

Yes you need to defrag your harddisk once a month. It will make your pc run faster. It will arrange all the clusters in a hard disk in a proper order.I defrag my pc once a month. If you defrag your pc you will be able to recover the files you delete accidently. Also you can protect your harddisk from future damage.

You should at least carry this task out about once per month. This ensures that your hard drive is working at its optimum. Depending on how much data you have on your hard drive it could take quite a bit of time otherwise, it's generally quick. As well as using the Defrag utility I always use the disk cleanup utility in order to get rid of the temporary internet files, this is something I do on a regular basis. Andrew

Right now i can't defrag my computer because my harddisk has a free space below 20%. It's not possible when using the default defragmenter of Windows. I need to use Diskeeper of other defragmenting software. When i have the chance to defrag, i'll defrag my computer maybe after downloading large archived files like movies and games. I need to defrag too whenever i open up a lot of files and didn't defrag for quite some time. I usually start by performing scandisk on my computer then defragment.

I use Diskeeper Professional to defragment my drives. It's intelligent and automatic, so I don't have to keep track of how often or when it needs defragging. Works great. If you defrag *regularly*, you wont notice any performance boost from defrag because there is no performance *loss* from fragmentation in the first place. Everything will run smoothly all the time. However, if you don't defrag for a long time, then fragmentation will build up. Any defrag at this stage is bound to restore lost performance and make things run smoothly.

If you have a recent SO, using NTFS, you don't really need to defrag. It doesn't affect the way the data flows. The same with Linux. I don't know about Mac....

My friend it is always better to detract your hard disk once a month because although it does not make a big difference in the performance of your computer but it does help the hard disk retrieving the data is then the disk is getting full. Defragmenting that hard disk means indexing all your data in a sequence. This means that hard disk needs less a time to retrieve the data from the hard disk. When we say the data and then delete it the clusters are not in sequence and that is the reason why it takes some time to retrieve the data. But if you to fragment your hard disk occasionally at least once a month then that problem can be taking care of and it means a better and longer life of your hard disk.

Defragmenting your hardisk are required IF you are using old HD type, with current HD on the market plus our today disc partition technology, it is not necessary to defragmenting your hardisk. Technically it grand you nothing noticeable at performance, it even had bad effect since while defragmenting your HD head and motor are stressed out to do immense task of moving data around your HD.
