What do you do when you are in the waiting room waiting? Sometimes I wait for several hours on my daughter at the low income clinic where she goes for treatment. I don't take my 3 year old grandaugther with us because of the long wait. I see some of the other children that are with their parent that are so irritable and sometimes go to sleep only to be awakened. It is just too tiring for a toddler to wait for hours when there is someone at home that can keep them. I usually take a find a word book or a crossword book with me. What kinds of things do you do in the waiting room? If I don't do something I will go to sleep.

When i am in the waiting room,I read. There is always a good stack of magazines available.I also walk around a little bit to pass some time. When i go to my doctor's office, there can be a 3 hour wait.I just don't understand how the secretary books the appointments. She will book the appointments, starting at 10 or 11 in the morning and my doctor doesn't even show up until after dinner. He does all his hospital rounds in the mornings.I could never understand this?

Thank you for your response, jackiew. I know exactly what you mean. My daughter is going to the low income clinic and the doctors and nurses dont' even get there until 1:30 and she has to be there by 12:30 and take a number. Her appointment has always been at 1:30 but she doesn't get called until 3:30 or 4. Such a long wait. Have a great day. happy mylotting.

I will always bring a book so that I can read while waiting. Either that, or I'll bring along a notepad for me to jot down notes on things which I need to do, or just to brainstorm some ideas for my personal projects. I always do that. I will never go to a waiting room without bringing anything.

I have been spending a great deal of time in the waiting room waiting or my daughter and the first time that I went with her I did not expect to be waiting that long. But this is a low income clinic and on the first visit the wait is long. I was not prepared and there was no magazines or newspaper to look out. So, the next time that I went with her I was prepared with a book, cross word book and paper and pen. Thank you for your response, daydreamer20. Have a nice day. Happy MyLotting.

for me i bring a music player and a book, is really irrating to wait for so long. but if you are having a kid there why not bring a little toy for her and let her play a while while you can do your stuff. sometimes if i see other people like me and seems nice, just start a conversation. and why not, i think people should always reach out to each other, since you all are in a room and are bored why not hit up a conversation and just gently talk about things

I normally read a magazine or start a conversation with someone fortunately we have waiting system in England where anybody serious comes into the hospital they get treated first and the waiting time comes up on a banner then you can then decide whether you want to stay and wait or go and come back later.Up at the doctors surgery we have an appointment system so no one has to wait long if we wait to long we can complain and they do something about it.It is the same at the dentist and optictians it is pretty good here .

well, waiting is the thing I hate most, and I have no idea about avoiding it,maybe nobody can,I think. So,for everytime I had to wait for someone or something for years,I have mastered a lot of ways to spend the waiting time, these ways can calm me down, and can scatter me some attention to wait.I will always take litte books , my ipod and magazines in the waiting room.If the waiting is not in my plan,I will play my cellphone which I always put some ebooks, games, music in it,and if I am tired of it,I just can use it to surf the internet,it's so useful!

I always bring along a good book or a puzzle book. I consider it relaxing time and I don't mind the wait a bit. I have so little time for reading or doing puzzles that to me, the waiting room is my break time. When my kids were small, I planed such visits and made sure I brought books for us to read and things for them to do if I did not have a sitter.

Thank you for your response, sid556. I'm not like you, I get nervous when I have to wait and cannot relax. I just get so uncomfortable sitting there. It doesn't seem to matter what I do, I'm still nervous. Have a great day. Happy posting.

Several hours, wow. That is crazy. I be complaining after 30 minutes if I am not seen within my 30 minutes. I mean that is why there is an appointment made.
When I go to any doctors appointment, I usually bring all my questions, I have a notebook and I study all my questions, I also print out what I reserach on line about the condition.
Well to explain a bit, my daughter has several health problems and now being tested for Rare genetic disease that could kill her.
So when I have MRI's done, I ask for a copy of the report and armed with this information, I research one line about what the MRI report really mean. Then when I see the doctor I ask the questions, pretending I have not done my research. I want to hear what the doctors will tell me.
I been burned by doctors before, who told me everything is "fine" when the MRI reads that there is a chornic sinus disease present in my child. Yep just another problem.
So now I bring my reading materials and ready to ask my questions, and more questions, since it is hard to get a hold of doctors once you leave their office. And many doctors they rush through the checkup that they barely give you enough time to gather your thoughts to ask the question.
I hope you can find a doctor where the waiting time is less.

Thank you for your response. It is a wonderful idea to do the research like you are doing. My daughter and I have done the same thing. She is having surgery on dec 4th to remove cancerous cells from the cervix. The type of surgery she is having was one of her choices and if she had not done the research on the internet she would not have made that choice. Thanks so much. Have a great day.

Usually when I am in the waiting room I read magazines or newspapers if there are any. Otherwise I usually practice some of my coin tricks. I usually roll the coin around my knuckles and practice other tricks with it.

i wish i could have slept in a place where there are so many people making some sound. I firstly dont put myslef in a position where i have to wait for others or for my turn for hours. I hate waiting. But there are few times for example in a clinik or in any governtment offices where i have to wait. I find this to be soo irritating and usually i go out and smoke or if not then just there like a stupid person and watch others or their activities.

I personally prefer to read a book. However, if there's someone to chat with, I grab the opportunity to make an acquaintance. I also usually have the iPod in case I don't have a book or magazine handy. When I'm stuck with nothing, I just do some guilt-free (because there's nothing more important or productive I can do anyway) daydreaming. :)

I prefer to play sudoku while I'm in the waiting room. Or else, I do people watching. Watching people can be quite interesting though sometimes. You can watch many kinds of behaviour in the clinic, some are not patience, some wait patiently, others just can't keep their eyes from their cell phones and so on.

I can answer this question the best. Ask me how many times and for how many long hours I have waited for different reasons and different places. During such extremely boring moments I try to observe people around me.When I do enough of that, I start playing games in my cell phone.I then start calling up people (unless i am required to maintain silence).Last but not the least, I befriend someone who is around and start a random conversation to kill my time(only if I find someone friendly and entertaining enough). When I am travelling and have to wait in stations and airports for long hours, I carry my ipod and listen to music. That I feel is one of the best way to kill time.

I usually sit there and watch people, so many different people come in and out the doors, so I just sit there and watch them. I like to read and sometimes I'll bring a book with me, but reading makes me sleepy, so I'd end up sitting there sleepinp or trying to anyway...lol.

Thank you for your response, walijo2008. I too get so sleepy while I am waiting. I find that trying to read a book puts me to sleep. I tried the find a word book last time and managed to stay awake. My daughter has another appointment on Dec. 4th and I so hope that I can stay awake. Have a great day.

Usually if I am with someone i will chat with them till they go to see the doc . I am kinda shy so chances are i will not talk and maybe just small talk with someone . Back in the day I would just day dream while looking at a mag or something . Now i will bring a book with me or do some writing and the time will fly by

Thank you for your response, metaschica25. I have to get my stuff, like magazines, books or paper together the night before or I will forget. Most people at the clinic where I go with my daughter are not friendly, probably because of the long wait. So I have to have something to do. Have a great day. Happy MyLotting.

I always bring a magazine with me or a newspaper. It really can get very boring waiting around and we need to keep our mind occupied.
Sometimes there is a television in the waiting rooms, but they are usually on a boring channel that we cannot change incase someone might complain.
Bringing something to read is certainly a good choice.

I usually bring a novel to read. If my daughter is having to wait with me, I'll read her a book, or play with her and her toys. If she can behave herself I'll let her run around. She's 15 months so of course she doesn't want to sit still. Luckily I don't have to go to places where I have to wait much. Just my daughter's doctors appointment.
