Chocolate lovers!! It's a hit in the UK - will it be one in the US??

There's a new chocolate bar in town in England. They can't even keep it on the shelves. There's even a part of me that's intrigued by this particular chocolate bar and I'm not that into chocolate. I do like the "salt/sweet" combination - I think that is what makes me want to try this some time. It's definitely not your run of the mill candy bar. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/3510696/Bacon-flavoured-chocolate-bar-is-a-sell-out.html So, what do you think? Is this something you'd like to try - or would you only buy it as a novelty or a gag gift?? My interest is piqued - is yours?

I was on a recent craft group and there were a bunch of people talking about chocolate covered bacon. Some say that it didn't sound like it'd work, but it was really good. I doubt I'd make it, because I haven't had bacon in over 20 years. The last 3 times I ate bacon, I went home sick twice and wish I had the 3rd time!

Wow, really? Bacon made you sick? I love really good salty bacon. It's weird that people were talking about this just recently. These bars can be found in the Whole Foods groceries - but at $8/per, they'll never see the light of day in my house.

Yeah, I'm allergic to everything, and that includes all those additives in bacon, all the nitrates and stuff. but at that price you aren't going to find me buying it either!

Holy moly, Elic! What DO you eat??? My mother's allergic to green beans and tea, but still can consume them if she's willing to deal with the hayfever-like reaction. I can't imagine not being able to eat something at all! I knew about the corn, though.

I'm a big choc lover though I'm trying to control as it's not really good for health. I'm trying to eat only dark chocolate for now as they are said to be healthier. Seriously, I've never heard of this bacon flavored chocolate bar. I love bacon, even though I know it's perfectly unhealthy. Hahaha. When I was in UK, I always buy ThonThon or something which spells that way. It's affordable and it's nice! Unlike Godiva, which tastes about the same but is way more expensive.

I know what you mean. Godiva is way overpriced for something that, to me, doesn't taste any different than Cadbury!! And, I do like Cadbury. I also like Lindt, which is affordable, but Godiva and Ghiradelli - not worth it to me at all.

Hmmmmm...I like chocolate but this one seems a little strange. I always pay for chocolate with a migraine but if I already have one I'll eat it so maybe if it wasn't very expensive I would try it. If it wasn't chocolate I would think it was a dog treat

I have no doubt that many a chocolate loving dog would love this even more (if only chocolate weren't poison to them)! The bacon would have to be very crispy, but I suspect that it would soften in the hot chocolate before it sets. So, maybe it wouldn't be quite as good as I would hope.

Dude that does sound so good. Bacon chocolate just sounds kinky and definately delicious. I might have to go check that out and find some somewhere. I hope it will be sold in the U.S.

If you don't mind paying $8/bar, it is apparently being sold in Whole Foods groceries. I don't know if they're nationwide or not.

Yuk. And the price, 6 GBPounds for 3 ounces, my gawd. I think I would like my apple wood smoked bacon with eggs in the morning on a plate thankyou. And my chocolate neet in a chocolate bar. If I wanted to mix the two I would dip some bacon in melted chocolate, for 6 pounds I could indulge in more than three ounces that way. I suppose if they came out with fried egg flavoured chocolate I could have chocolate bacon and chocolate eggs in the morning.

I do so agree! But, hey - green eggs and ham vs. chocolate bacon and eggs. For me, that's a hard call!!

One of our exports seems to be doing well in England at least! LOL!!! This stuff is made in Chicago and it seems like the Britts can't get enough of it! It all sounds a bit disgusting to me, but I'd buy a bar, just to try it out. That one guy said he bought something similar at a healthfood store for $8.00 but it was beef not bacon. Sounds interesting. Thanks for letting us know about this! Happy Thanksgiving and.... Happy MyLotting!

Yeah, silly me - I saw that AFTER I posted this. They do sell these bars in Whole Foods, which are full sized grocery stores that sell only organic foods. Quite pricey.

Yes, my interest is piqued; if it were offered I'd certainly try it. It doesn't sound too good, but who knows...it may be delicious. I consume at least 2 bars of chocolate a day every day, so I'm a serious chocolate man, and I'm always on the look-out for new bars to interest me. I change my favourites regularly; so who knows...this may be the one for me, but I doubt it!

I would definitely be sick to my stomach if I did that. Sweet stuff just doesn't sit well anymore, especially chocolate. But, it's really no worse than two cups of hot chocolate a day and I know people who do that. I can't do that either. But, I do like chocolate bars with raisins and nuts - I especially like them frozen. I can enjoy frozen chocolate.

If the bacon stayed crispy, I think it would be pretty good. But, I have learned that Whole Foods is selling it if you can handle the price. $8/bar. I'll dip my own first!!

to be honest, it sounds sort of nasty. we just got a flyer from a grocery store that was featuring dark chocolate truffles with caramel covered with sea salt, so i think you are right, it is a sign of things to come, but i dont think i will be in line for it.

No, that doesn't sound that good. The caramel already has a salty flavor - a covering of sea salt, for me, would be overkill! And, I don't like dark chocolate. I barely like milk chocolate.

I am in the UK but i have never came across this chocolate. I am a chocolate lover but would not touch this one due to the fact i am vegetarian. Even my partner who loves his bacon and chocolate, but not together, says that he would not eat it either.

That would make it difficult, true. I think eating bacon right after eating chocolate might work for me.

I'm in the UK, love chocolate and have never heard of it Jerz. Not that I visit Selfridges more than about once every couple of years. The average Brit doesn't do too much regular shopping in Selfridges. They've probably been bought by tourists! Then I realised that it is made in Chicago! Not for me I think. I'd not by buy it. I love bacon and I love chocolate. But I like them separate!

Well, I did use a bit of literary license there, but then I don't know what Selfridges is, either. Apparently, this chocolate bar IS sold over here in our Whole Foods grocery stores. I've been in their parking lots, but never in their stores. Too pricey for my budget, which explains why these babies are $8/bar here!! (Approximately 4 GBP). I absolutely LOVE good salty bacon, but I'm not as much of a fan of chocolate, which is why this combination piqued my interest. I thought it might make plain chocolate palatable, but who's to say. I'll never know because I won't even pay $2 for a chocolate bar, let alone $8!!!

Wow, that does not appeal to me at all. When you said "salty and sweet combination" I thought of chocolate covered pretzels, which satisfy this particular craving very well and have been around for years. For the snackers among us this combination is part of the Take 5 bar, which I'm not a super-fan of but would definitely enjoy more than bacon flavored chocolate. My prediction is that this is a fad and will not become a long-term hit.

If you ever get a chance, try chocolate covered popcorn! The white is divine, but the milk chocolate is pretty good, too. Salty popcorn under chocolate. I prefer white, though. Really salty pretzels under white chocolate are very nice. I like the Take 5 bars, too. Nice combination of textures and tastes. I just can't eat things like that all the time (not supposed to at all, but I still do once in a while).

Hey Jerz; How about you try it out then tell me?? LOL! Bacon & chocolate?? WOW! I would never have thought of that one, part of me says yeah that sounds good and then the other part of me ( my wee brain) is saying SERIOUSLY?? Together? hey who knows it might be great!!! Not sure I'd want to pay that high of a price and then hate it ya know? Where do you find these articles?? LOL!

I'm of split mind on "do I or don't I" as well. And, I just happen upon these stories. Sometimes I'm looking for something else, sometimes they show up in a newsletter, once in a while I go looking just to see what's out there. Lately, most of them have come from my newsletters I get from our local news channel. If the story isn't well-told there, I'll go looking for better links.

I don't know where the store is they mentioned - apparently it's being sold here in the US in some organic grocery chain. I don't shop there anyway, so that won't be happening for me any time soon.

While I love chocolate and bacon, the two combined do not make me at all curious about the taste. And with the eight dollar American price tag, I think I will skip it completely.

Chocolate with chili? I can see that - chocolate is very prevalent in Native American (mostly in Central and South America) cooking. I've made mole with chocolate in it along with peanut butter and tomato sauce, among other ingredients. Pretty tasty!

I'll have to wait until my next trip back to England to try this one. The British seem to have a much higher appreciation for the sweet and salty combo than Americans. My favorite is sweet and salty popcorn which you can't get at all in the U.S. cinemas. I moved to the U.S. from the U.K. about 4 years ago and have since been forced to make my rations of marmite, Cadbury chocolate, Heinz baked beans and other such necessities last for several months at a time! Can't wait to try the salt/sweet bar!

I've heard of Marmite and can't understand why Heinz doesn't sell their beans here (have you tried Campbell's pork and beans?), but we do have Cadbury; although not in quite as many varieties as in the UK. Caramello bars are YUMMY! In the meantime, try a Take5 bar. It's loaded with contradictions and tastes pretty good, too.
