Mike Vick plead guilty to State Charges of Animal Cruilty. Did he deserve this?

Mike Vick, star quarterback, was convicted of fighting dogs, and killing them. I listened to people call in on CNN, and rant and rave about how bad of a person he is because of what he did. America makes no sense to me, because our sense of values are screwed up. One guy called in and said that this was the worse crime that a professional athlete has ever done. Where are you from friend. You had one player that has had repeated domestic violence charges because he beats his wife. I feel that is a lot worse than killing a dog. I love dogs, and do not like to see the fighting. I own a half pit bull, and I never allow her to fight. But when you have some drug dealers that don't get a sentence like this what do u say, "Its okay to sell dope, but not to kill a dog"? The whole point is that the man made a mistake and no one disputes that, but why does most of America see him as public enemy because of this? Speaking from the view of a Black man, the United States of America loves Dogs more than Black folks. We still are fighting to convict men that killed Blacks during the Civil Rights Movement. I guess Black folks are not as important. You tell me please!

`I responded to a discussion like this about a week ago. I think a lot of times Black people who are in the public eye are targeted. In this case I am not saying Micheal Vick didn't bring this on himself but I believe he is being made an example of. It isn't bad enough he lost everything behind this, he is serving time, his NFL career is doubtful at most. I am not condoning animal cruelty but seriously he's going down for some dogs? You know in some countries they eat dogs? It is just weird when you look at it in perspective, at least I think so. He'll do two years for dogfighting, a man breaks his wife's jaw and gets six months!

America slaughters cows by the thousands everyday. Is that not animal cruelty? Chickens? What makes dumb dogs so special? Cutting down our forests is killing millions of animal species, is that not animal cruelty? It's funny how many upper class people are quick to label Michael Vick as a bad guy and wear fur coats. Is that not animal cruelty? How many swine were killed to make those footballs the NFL uses? You get my point here? How many Turkeys were slaughtered just this week to feed all of our bellies? Do you know how they treat those turkeys in those processing plants? Is that not animal cruelty?

Oh yeah and for that caller who said this was the worst crime any pro athlete has ever committed.... Uh duh Ray Caruth hired a hitman to kill his girlfriend remember? Was her life worth less than that of a dog?

I don't think it has anything to do with fact that Michael Vick is black. That is taking the guilty ruling to a level that is just ludicrous. I do think that beating you wife is worse than dog fighting and the guilty party (black or white, or other) should be held accountable to the maximum of the law. But, Michael Vick was guilty of cruelty and abuse to animals and deserves what he got. It was not a mistake, he knew what he was doing was wrong and illegal. He tried to hide it. I don't care what color his skin is, I'd feel the same if it was Peyton Manning.

Please understand, I do not think that this happened because he was black. What I do think that it is crazy that we as a country are going so crazy over a animal. As I stated earlier, there are players that are women beaters, but we as a society do not dislike them as much as we dislike Mike Vick. When I said the facts of being black, I said no one cared for Black folks this much during the Civil Rights Movement. There are still people that the government know are guilty of murder out free. Now whats worse killing a human or a dog? America makes me feel as though the life of an animal is more valuable than a person. That's all. Yes he was doing something cruel, but no I do not feel that he should have been sent to prison. When a horse does not perform, the kill them or euthanize them. Same thing in my opinion, but believe me race has nothing to do why he was found guilty.
