Same here, I also rate responses if I find it really good, but I don't give any negative rate even if I don't like the response. In respect to the person who took time answering my discussion.

I feel the same way. I only rate positive. I won't rate negative. It is nicer to just not rate at all. I agree. :)

Hello!
Yes, I do rate all the responses to my discussions. If somebody comments on my responses, I will also rate them. But when I am responding to other discussions, I will hardly ever rate anybody/anything. I just respond and move on to the next discussion.
I do not know why exactly. I'm just not used to rating every commentary and response that I see. Perhaps I should start doing it. Not with all responses, but at least with the description of the discussion. In fact, I believe I do rate it sometimes, but I'm not sure. Might be an involuntary action.
Respectfully,
Munhozmib.

Any discussion that I choose to respond back too, I will rate. Personally, I feel rating everyone here is important even when they are not the Best discussions as everyone deserves a chance. Also when I decide to respond back to a discussion by rating them, this is turn lets me know that I have already responded back to that discussion so I will not post back to it as well.

I will rate ones I am replying to or people who are replying to mine. If the answer is just one to add to their total of posts, I will give it a -. If it has meaning and thought behind it, even if I do not agree, I will give it a +. If it is insulting, I will first give it a - and then report it. If it breaks TOS, I will report it.
I feel that it is good to give a true rating and not use it to personally attack those that I do not agree with.
I had a 10 for a long time. Then when I started disagreeing with a few people about presidential candidates, suddenly my rating dropped to an 8... overnight!! Now it is at a 9 and not moving.
The same happened to my sister as she was posting in the same posts and had my same opinion, as well as a few of my myLot friends. Why would people do that?

I always only rate positively. I have never rated negatively. I find it far kinder to just not rate if I know that I can't rate positively. I personally wish that myLot would just abolish the ratings system altogether. But, that is just me. :) Cheers and Happy myLotting! :)

Well I do not start many discussions at all, due to not always being able to be here on myLot. In fact it is probably a couple of years since I started one and when I did start a discussion, I would rate the responses if I felt the person had contributed to it positively.
Now when I am responding to discussions, I will rate them with a positive, if I think it appropriate. I do not rate negative because I think if a discussion is that bad then probably it needs to be reported to myLot. They can then deal with it as they see fit. Before I respond to any discussion I read the earlier responses and if I consider the person has put an effort into their response, I will give them a positive rating. Again, I do not give out negative ratings.
For someone to get a positive rating from me, they need to give a good response what they have thouoght through. It does not have to be an opinion I share because we are all different so even someone who says the opposite to what I think can still earn a positive rating from me. The rating system is, I understand, a reflection on how other members see us and if the ratings are to mean anything, then the rating we give should be honest.
Giving someone a negative just because they have a different opinion to ours is so very wrong. At the same time, to give someone a positive rating just because they are a friend or we like them is also wrong, if their discussion or response is without substance. Both those situations can seriously affect the ratings system and detract from what it is meant to show.
So, continue to use the positive/negative rating buttons but do it for all the right reasons.

Hi! I made it a habit to always rate a discussion positively before I respond. I choose the discussions I respond to, so answering one would mean that I like the discussion, thus the positive rating. As far as my discussions are concerned, I also rate all the responses positively because the respondents gave their valued time and two cents' worth to respond to mine, and I totally appreciate that.
Happy myLotting!

I have started to use the positive rating button more often lately. I think this is due to the fact that more members are posting insightful comments. I try to use the rating button only for very good posts. I think that if the ratings function gets over used, then it defeats the purpose of having it in the first place. I haven't actually used the negative rating button yet.

I definitely rate responses to my discussions. Although I don't post many discussions, lol. I do, however, rate occasionally other discussions, if I like them and/or they have a good topic. Similarly I rate replies to other discussions. People deserve to be rewarded for quality responses.
Btw, rating is part of the activities here on mylot that you get rewarded for;)

yup,i do rate most of the responses that mylotters make.i don't give a negative one though.every one who answers to my discussion are given a positive rate.i think it's my way of respecting their opinions since all of us are unique and each of us have our own beliefs and principles.it's just sad though that other people don't see it that way.that's why my ratings keep on going down, and i don't know if i said anything bad or offensive.oh well,it's still fine anywayz.i'm still having fun here.hope you will find it fun here too, especially when you get your first payout.lol.happy mylotting!![](/Content/images/emotes/thumbup.gif)

I always rate a discussion if people seem as if they truly are attempting to contribute. I personally think it is nice when people use it correctly like it is supposed to be used.
