What's up with the rising soda prices?

Where we live, 12 packs are going for over $4 and 24 packs are $8.50! I bought generic diet soda today for $2.50 for a 12 pack instead!

I noticed that the other day when I purchased a 12 pack of Mountain Dew. All I can guess is maybe they have risen their prices for the holidays. I do know if they stay that expensive i'm going to have to switch to kool aid or juice because I can't afford it for sure!

They're evidently doing some test markets where they're making 8 packs and 16 packs instead of 12 and 24 packs - the price is less but you're getting less.

It is a good thing that I do not drink soda!! I drink mostly water and iced tea. Much cheaper. LOL

During farming season, we go through a lot of canned and bottled drinks when the guys are out in the fields - partially because of the convenience, but we may need to make other arrangements if these prices stay where they are.

Soda actually dehydrates you, if you were not aware, and coffee does, too. The best drinks are water and non-sweetened flavored water (like adding natural juice from fruit). As a former dancer, I learned that the hard way.

I guess the price of everything is going up now, although it seems odd to me because gas prices have taken a bit of a downturn recently. This should make transporting everything cheaper, so there must be some other reason for the prices to increase.

They're blaming it on "commodity prices" for sugar and for the oil that is used to make the plastic bottles - of course, since no sugar is used in making diet soda, I don't know how they rationalize them being the same price.

I know what you mean, soda here is getting higher and higher too, even a two liter bottle of pop can cost you a couple bucks at some places, and the 20 oz. bottles are about a buck 50 here. I don't know they are going up, its starting to get too expensive to drink a soda...lol.

They may very well do what a lot of companies are doing right now - pricing themselves right out of business!

Yes, isn't that crazy! I noticed that, too. My family mostly drinks water (and milk for the little ones). My husband does enjoy the occasional soda but only if we can find it cheap. He has been complaining that I hadn't bought any soda in several weeks. I told him the prices and he didn't believe me... that is until he went to the store himself.
Looks like they still sell enough. The other day I spoke to the guy who stocks the stuff at Walmart. He said he only noticed a slight decline. I guess people are so used to drinking that stuff that switching to tap water to save money is not something they are willing to do yet.

We will definitely be drinking more tea and coffee - probably still have soda occasionally, but not near as often.

I try to watch the sales. I love my diet cokes and I usually get them for a 12 Pack 3 for $10. Some time they are 4 for $12. If I don't get the sale they are about $4 for a single 12 pack. Some time I can find the 24 pack for $5.99 then they went to $6.99. You are right they are going up. CVS Pharmacy has these sales they switch from coke to pepsi products each week.

Go to Wal-Mart, even when they are not on sale, the 12 packs are about $3.25 and the two liter bottles are about $1.25. They had them on sale for .88 cents about a month ago and I stocked up on them. I am the only one that drinks two liters so they are safe from the soda junkies in the house. Can you go to a place like Smart & Final and buy the flats of soda? They are a 24 pack but they are on a cardboard slab so they cost less due to less packaging.
