If you're not a fast typist or even a medium speed typist, that means you could be a slow typist or a key tapper.
Which one are you Miracle?...Well I'm definitely a slow typist. I type slow and I still have to look down while I'm typing. I'm only one step above key tapper.
I think everyone started out as a key tapper, tap tap tapping away, and it takes about 1 minute+ to tap a whole sentence.
I only have one Yahoo messenger friend but he don't tap with me. Maybe because I'm a slow typist, well he don't have to discriminate do he?
Am I the only slow typist on Mylot? I also want to hear from the key tappers.

Well, I type 20 to 25 WPM, so I think that would put me in the category of slow typist. It's slow emnough to keep me from getting a job, or at least a good paying job. I had someone call me who saw my resume online. I met all of the qualifications - except one. She asked me can I type 45 WPM. I can't type 45 WPM, I will never be able to type that fast, and I don't know why these companys ask that you type that fast. But if they're paying 28,000 a year they can ask that.

You could play that game "Typer Shark." I don't know what it is but I guess it can help you improve your typing skills so you can get a good job. I'm gonna try it myself.

I have to admit, I am not the speed demon, but I can keep up with some of the good ones. I did take typing lesson and I will pat myself on the back and say you go girl.
I wish you could see my uncle type he types with one finger and he goes pretty fast with it. It tickles me to see him type. We have typers of all kinds. My sister types and she types with one finger also and can't find the letters. She tickles me also. Asking where is the P?.where is the a?.where is the u?.etc..

I'm one of the fast typers because I learned touch typing in high school as part of job training--that was back in 1972! You can learn with free internet programs if you want, it really comes in handy!

Anyone with any courtesy should respect people who don't type fast; not everyone has had to type for a living or spent a lot of time on messenger or in chat rooms!
I type fast, but that's only because I did it for a living for 20 years or so. Some days I'd work 14 hours, just typing. I was a typesetter and proofreader and worked from home, subcontracted by several printing companies. Because I did that every day (including weekends), I got fast.
But, if you don't need to type a lot for your job/profession, there's no reason to expect you to type fast. My husband is a hunt and peck kind of typist. He designs computer programs and circuit boards for a living; you don't need to type a lot to do that... some, but not a lot.
From what I've heard from other members here, a lot of them are slow typists. There's nothing wrong with that and no one should discriminate anyone for that reason!
By the way, I've never noticed that you're a slow typist!

I can type about 35wpm so I am not a tapper but the problem with me is the misspelling. Like right now as I am typing this to you I am at full speed but I bet you some of my words are misspelled and I am not gonna go back and proof read them so when you get the chance let me know how many words wsa wrong cause miracle I ALWYS have errors. Chat with you later

Can't make you feel better. I am a fast typist, or rather a touch typist. I get confused when I look down at the keyboard and lose my concentration. I am also a fast thinker. Don't worry you will get faster with practice. I took typing the last year in high school and in business school. I was not pretty enough (not blond enough) for the electronic typewriter (that was when they had the IBMS) so I learned to type fast on a manual. But I do make mistakes.

I would say that I am a better typist than you. lOl! I could type more than 50 words per minute. Just don't put pressure on me and i will surely be typing five in a minute! I suggest you get a typewriting game in your computer to practice your typing skills and I know, eventually, you'd be better in typewriting. I used to play "typer shark" and with it I can say that I have improved my typing skills. I'm sure you'll be enjoying this game, and at the same time you will surely be learning the basics here. Good luck!

I am I guess a medium speed typist. Since joining myLot a little over a year ago I have actually learned to type a whole lot faster. I can even type out a discussion while watching a video with my daughter and still type fairly well. I use to have to look at the keyboard every other word.

Count me in miracle, i am also a slow typist. I dont konw how to use all my fingers when i type, my left hand uses two fingers only while my right is three fingers so it looks like i have only five fingers which make it very slow. I like the way my brother do typing for he can do it without looking the keyboard and he use his all the fingers of both hands. So good to see but not easy to do.

I guess I am a medium speed typist, Im not sure I'd have the patience to mylot if I was still looking at the keys. I think that you are right though we all have to start somewhere and nobody is born great at anything. Keep practicing and I'm sure someday you will be much better than I am.
Good luck with you typing skills

Do not feel low as I find no reason for you to improve your Typing skill. It takes hardly one or two month's practice to acquire a reasonable typing speed.
Also, I have a friend (musician - a percussionist) whose single finger typing speed has compelled my wonder. Believe me - with his index finger alone he can type really fast - and the noise comes out from the keyboard is really melodious! His accuracy of typing is also nearly cent percent.
So, even if you are slow - without taking the trouble of any formal training - you can simply focus more on exercising your skill. It'll surely improve.

I am very much a slow typist. I would type about 30 words per minutes, if only I could slow down on my typing and not make any errors. When I was in high school, I used to type 37 words per minute, but I made over 15 errors. I felt discouraged, because other classmates who were taking the same typing class made excellent accuracy by typing beyond 45 words per minute without errors.

Sounds like you are medium speed at least. 30 words per minute is not really bad. I think I type about 15 WPM.

Everyone of us here were not born "fast typist", am sure we started as a slow typist. I think being a slow typist is not a problem if you think so. Because for me, I understand to that especially if he will tell me first about it. The point is, if someone consider you or accepted you as his friend and you're already both friends (at yahoo messenger for example), I think he will consider your typing category. For me, I dont care if you tyupe slow or note, I think the important there is what we are talking about us being a friend, our both interest and more...Also I am sure, you are not alone here on mylot that is also a slow typist, theres a lot of members here same as you, dont get discourage, instead practice and practice cause constant practice makes you perfect. Ask and learn the proper finger-placement of your both hands. If you know already then type this set of words; NOW IS THE RIGHT TIME FOR ALL GOOD MEN TO COME TO AID FOR THEIR COUNTRY and THE QUICK LITTLE BROWN FOX JUMP OVER THE CRAZY LITTLE BROWN DOG NEAR THE BANK OF THE RIVER.. got it?
Just practice practice and practice okay..enjoy your typing practices..

When I took typing in high school (many centuries ago lol) I did not do well at it. I learned the home keys though and that has stayed with me. My problem in school was that I didn't trust that I wouldn't make mistakes and I couldn't stand that. See, regular typing isn't like computer typing. When you make a mistake on the computer you just back space and change it. When you make a mistake typing directly on paper you have to correct it on the paper and that never looks good.
Anyway, since I have been typing more now that I've joined mylot I've noticed that my speed has increased quite a lot.
