Iv (never) been to the dentist before because I'm scared to go, I know I should go but I dread going but thankfully I still have all my pearly whites, and they still look pretty good Iv been told that I have a nice smile and nice teeth I brush my teeth twice a day, and I use mouth wash too, and when I was little my parents made sure we didnt eat to much candy, well, anyway I know my luck might run out one day and I will have to go but I hope when I do go to the dentist that it will not be as bad as I imagine it will. so tell me do you go to the dentist regularly and what kind of experience did you have was it a good experience or bad experience?

I dreaded going for many years.
Finally when my son came to live with me and I had to book him a dentist I did the same for me.
I was absolutely dreading the visit, but I have a wonderful friendly relaxed male dentist and he gave me a clean bill of health! No fillings or anything and I am aged 50! he said just keep flossing regularly and he said come back in TWELVE months whilst most people visit every 6!

I do go to the dentist on a regular basis now, at least once every six months! I don't like going to the dentist though, I just hate the drilling aspect! I have had several fillings over the years and I'm just grateful that I still have a full set of teeth! One thing I'm not going to do though is give up my chocolate intake! I always receive a card mentioning that it's time for my next appointment so I can hardly forget! I have always had a good dental experience, my dentist is someone that I feel comfortable with and this is important I think. I just wish that the technology would improve so that we would not have to continue to endure that infamous drill! Andrew

Yes, I went about a week ago. I had a cavitiy and need to get a filling. Of course they had to give me a needle and they had drill in my mouth. After the medication wore off I had to take some pain pains because it started to hurt. It evidentily eased off.

tell your dentist this is your first visit. most probably he will just do a check and explain to you how is the condition of your mouth. be inquisitive. ask him how the procedures are done and what tools will be use. most dentist are more then welcome to answer.

i do not go regularly because we cannot afford it but any experiences i have had have been ok. no terrible trauma or anything like that. i would go more often if we had the money and i would love to get my teeth whitened too but that is not going to happen any time soon if ever.

I think the first thing you should do is find a dentist that you will feel comfortable with... At least you wouldn't feel so scared at the start :) It is very important to visit the dentist regularly so that you are sure that your teeth and gums are in good health. It's also a good preventive measure because if ever there are problems they will be addressed at once and not when it is too late. good luck and don't be scared :)

Hi there apples99
You really should go, just to put your mind at ease that your teeth are fine, as I am sure they are. I only let my kids have candy once a week which is always the same day every week. They might get an extra treat in the week but rarely! I went to the emergency dentist about a month ago because I had terrible tooth ache. She gave me an injection, hit a nerve and it was like an electric shock going through my tongue!! LOL. I actually don't mind the dentist at all and I have to go for treatment next week. Don't get me wrong, I would rather not go but I have to so I just get on with it.

Hi! I'm having a regular visit to our family dentist and so far haven't had any bad experiences and my kids too.Currently,it is a must to be there at least twice a month for I have this overbite problem, trying to correct it though.Actually, our dentist is a friend of my younger sisters and brother, they were members of a church choir that is why somehow I am so at eased/relax.

Hi apples!
When I was younger, I used to go to the dentist regularly like twice a year or every six months. When I entered college then had my job, I had frequent visits to the dentist because I had a phobia then. But 2 years ago, I made it a point that I must visit my dentist again regularly. Gladly, my new dentist is a relative of ours so it made it easier for me to have my dental checkups and regular cleaning. Right now, I have to visit my dentist every month because of my braces. That one, I should get used to and I know the pain will be paid in the end.

No I don't go regularly. If you are already scared of going I won't tell my stories. I do think you need to go BEFORE you have any problems though. If you go now when you don't have problems it should be a good experience.

The experience you'll have is mostly dictated by your behaviour.
If you go all scared, you don't give nor the doctor , nor to yourself a chance .
Go relaxed, sit in the chair and let them work.
That's what I do.I know that I have to go, so I go.But I say to myself that I have to have a good time.I just sit in the chair, relax, listen to their music or discussion and the time goes by, they finish the work and I go home.
But, of course, the best is to keep your teeth healthy and just go for yearly check-ups that don't hurt, no nothing.

I just started going back to the dentist because I have dental insurance at work. I hate the dentist. I hate the idea of someone playing in my mouth. All the drilling and pricking my gums is horrifying. My mouth is also one of my sensitve places on my body. My last appointment wasn't so bad considering I had 2 cavities filled. Have you ever smelled old teeth being drilled into. yuck!!!!!!!!

I go to the dentist like once or twice every year. A lot of the time the experience isn't all that pleasant but you do get a free toothbrush after they do their poking and proding inside your mouth. Last time I went the dentist was like jamming that metal hook into my gums. My mouth is generally pretty sore for a while after most trips to the dentist.
