Has anybody ever unexpectedly paid for something for you?

On Friday morning bright and early I was at my local Starbucks getting some coffee in preparation for my shopping day. The car in front of me seemed to be taking forever. When I got up to the window the cashier told me they had paid for a portion of my order so instead of $13, I only owed them $7.
I will remember this for a long time, what a nice thing for them to do! I felt lousy for having complained to myself about how long they made me wait lol. Have you ever had someone pay for a portion or all of your bill?

That is so nice. That has in fact happened to me one time. I had gone to get groceries one time & stopped to fill up on gas. There were a lot of people @ the station. When i went in to pay the lady @ the register told me that the guy in front of me paid for mine & his gas. I have no idea who the person was but i thought that was so nice. I try to 'pay it forward' as often as i can. Thank God for those few good people left in this world.
Best wishes.

I am so happy to see so many stories of this happening to other people, and comments of other people doing this or wanting to do this for others. In light of miserable and sad things like the Walmart stampede and trampling and the young girl who ended her life over a myspace hoax, it's encouraging to know not everybody is like that.

That is so true. You mostly hear of tragic things happening in the world. It does make you wonder how many good people are left in the world. I wish there were more good people in the world. Maybe that just something we'll have to wish for for now. Hopefully in the future..if us that do still do nice things bring our children up that way maybe the next generation will be better than this one.
Best wishes.

It's happened to me a couple of times. And it always happens when I'm feeling grumpy or angry and am complaining. I think it's God's way of shaking me up and make me focus of other things. It also makes me very humble. I do it every now and then at the toll booth for the car behind me. I'm going to try and do it once a week during the Christmas holidays to remind people that by giving a little bit, you can make someone feel worthwhile and happy. Enjoy!

I can't say I've had that happen :) haha how nice of them :D My father is paying for my wedding and it was very unexpected but greatly appreciated :). Also I had told my parents if anything I wanted them to not have to worry about my dress because I kinda wanted to go all out with it. But my mother surprised me and purchased the dress when I wasn't aware (she did it while I changed out of the dress I finally made a decision on) sneaky sneaky :) but I love her for it.
Co workers will do this from time to time as well. But it's kinda like I scratch your back you scratch mine kind of thing. Needless to say I'm always grateful and will always try to return the favor when the opportunity presents itself.

That was sweet of her to buy the dress! I did not have a dress for my wedding - well not a WEDDING dress lol. I'm sure that I will want to do the same for my daughter when she gets married, although I would prefer that doesn't happen for at LEAST 16 years (she is 4).

Its such a nice thing to have happen to you isnt it? Especially when you dont even know the person. I remember going to the mall once and I was in the mood for ice cream, so I went to Coldstone and asked for one of the mega cones. I knew that I was gonna regret the price, but I really wanted it! It was pretty late, almost closing time and there were only three people working. Two were in the back of the store and the one guy was at the front. I ordered my ice cream and as he was preparing it I started taking out my money. when I got over to the cash register he gave me the ice cream and I handed him the money. He smiled and said "dont worry about it , I got it".
Him and my brother ended up becoming friends and now they hang out all the time!
Amazing isnt it?
It freaking made my night, Im like "shoot why isnt everyone else in the world this nice?!"
anyways thats my story for the day :D I wish I had that big of a heart to do something nice for a stranger every now and then.

I plan to do something soon, when I'm thinking about it. However, I have to be having a better day, I'm a little down today and I'm not sure why. At least I AM cheered to see things like this, life can still be special when someone takes the bit of time to make it that way!

wow! that is really great. It was pretty decent of those people to pay for part of your bill. It very rarely happens. people are more apt to act irritatedif you show annoyance at being delayed. I haveneve xcome across anything like this. I don't think I delay anyone but I thiki I woudl nto be so generous either.

LOL! Well my son was the recipient of my annoyance, I told HIM that I couldn't think of a possible reason for someone to take so long at Starbucks. I guess I'm spoiled, I use the drive-thru to shoot through as quickly as possible because I tend to be taking a moment out of a busy day to get coffee when I go. The only times I go inside to sit is if I go with a friend, or when I used to take my older daughter there - without the little one - so we could chat and relax.
I guess I really need to be patient sometimes, apparently I DON'T know everything and I'd be wise to remember that!

Not long ago, I read an article in the newspaper, that one of the reporets declared he day as a "Day for Random Acts of Kindness", went out and did the best to help.
At the coffee shop she paid for the next person's coffee, went to a nursing home and gave a rose to the women and a chocolate candy to men.
She baked the favourite cookies for her kids, made a wonderful supper for the family. And she did much mor, I just don't remember it right now.
And you know what, giving to others, makes me fel good!!
I try as much as I can to let other cars enter in line in front of me, or be nice and smile to people I don't know.
If everyone would take just one day a year to make a special day as that reporter, we'll be a much better sociey..
And when you think that's not so hard...just you have to want to do it!

I do have bad days sometimes but I always try to remember that in day to day life, YOU might be that bright spot someone else clings to, you might make a difference for someone and not even know it. I want my actions and attitude to help people, not hinder them.
Now of course if I'm in a miserable mood and someone is cramping my style, I'm not thinking positively, but I do TRY to start my day on a positive note lol!

It's happened to me twice. Once I was in a restaurant with friends and someone else picked up the entire tab. We had bowed our heads to pray and the server brought a note over instead of the bill. A man had seen us pray and was so touched that he picked up the tab. He said he wasn't rich but just wanted to do something for us. Boy was I shocked!
My other experience was also at a restaurant. My husband and I were eating lunch. We saw a friend and spoke to him for a little while. He didn't say a word about picking up the bill. When it was time for the check the server told us what had happened. We really appreciated that.
I've done it for others a few times too. A couple was short at the store once. They had 2 small kids. It was my payday. I handed him $10 and told him it looked like it had fallen out of his pocket. It seemed to confuse him and he said he didn't so. Hi wife was quicker to catch on. She seemed very appreciative. They tried to give me the change but I stuck by the "falling out of the pocket" story. I'm really just glad I could help.

That's wonderful! I think that many people really want to bless someone else without the person knowing who did it. What makes is special is that people do this without a reason other than wanting to share of themselves and add a little happiness back into the world.

Not lately, but it has happened before. And I have done it as well. Somebody in front of me paying for groceries and they're missing a few cents or dollars, I sometimes cover it for them, specially older people. But I always ask first because some might be offended by it.

I have had this happen to me twice, once with a total stranger and one time a co-worker was in front of me and paid for my order. I kindly returned the favor by paying for the next guys order in line with the money I was going to use for my order.

I regularly pay for friends' orders, but it usually flip flops, if I got away with it one time, they usually cover me the following time. It works out well if one of us leaves a wallet at home or doesn't have enough cash, which has happened before.

Not me.
My sister did, she called me one day and ask me to come to this automobile service place and pick her up she had just dropped her car off to be serviced. I did. The following day I called her and ask if they had fixed her car she told me yes, and when she went to pick the car up the mechanic said she didn't owe anything because it was paid in full and the person wanted to remain anonymous. I said WOW, why I don't have that kind of luck.

Awww ! See, what I really wish I could do would be to take care of someone's bill like that, only car expenses tend to be huge and my husband would kill me lol. I'll be thinking of a way to return this favor, at least pay it forward before the end of 2008.

I worked at a reatuarant for 13 years and during the Holidays, one specific guy would come through the drive-thru and pay for his family's meal and then ask what the order total was of the person behind him. If it was reasonable, say under $10, he would pay for them. He always wanted to remain anonymous, but it was such a generous thing to do.
