in most industries, productivity is always on top of the company's agenda every fiscal year. programs of different kinds and forms, levels and degrees are put in place at the start of the year to ensure maximum productivity of employees. But how do you measure the productivity of employees?

Boss always give scores to his/her employee based on creativity, innovation, sales target, and discipline. If an employee is creative on finishing job, idea, etc, he/she will have a plus point from his/her boss. If an employee is innovative on idea, product, design, etc, he/she will have a plus point from his/her boss. If an employee has a sales target a month and his/her target is met, he/she will be promoted to higher position title at his/her job.

hi apil!
oh for me, i think it is very hard. but every company has its own sets of rules and guidelines in determining productivity of its employees. and these guidelines are accepted everywhere. so i think it is best to abide by them, by the rules of the company, and to just simply do your job passionately. i think that working because you want to work makes your perception of work different and makes work easier too.
i think it is best that each, we should report for work with that mentality.
take care and God bless you!

The simplest way is to give them assignments and see if they can complete those assignments before the due date.

The scales differ to the type of commodity that you purchase in the market, if you go to a vegetable shop you get old balance and if you go to a jeweller shop, you see a electronic sophisticated balance which even measures the weight of air above it.
The Productivity of an Employee depends on the type of company he is employed with and also to the type of work he is doing. In a locomotive company or say in an Transport company the productivity of driver will be the days he requires for his tour, the effectiveness of his driving, the usage of fuel and other stuffs.
The best way to judge and employee's Productivity is that the Employee should ask himself, how good is he doing for his organization, is he doing the works and tasks assigned to him properly, is he doing his work with perfection, is he meeting all the goals required.
Better he should make a self assesment chart for the it. mention the start date expected time and the time used for the completion of work. He should then check what made him go longer than the expected time. may be some less chats with employees, less scraps on orkut, less forwarded emails would have increased his efficiency.
The paragraph above tells about the employee measuring the productivity of himself. now let us see how can an employee judge the productivity of his juniors.
Allocate them a work. Make an assesment sheet containing what the work is , how much time should it ideally take if you do it and third coloumn stating what was the time required by the employee to do it. Now before jumping onto the solution of the employee;s production think a while. Let us take an example
If a person has to travel from india to america what would be cost of travelling by air. you decide it to be $100 and your employee decides it to be $200. Before scolding him on the cost factor and sending out an improvement plan for him think for a while wht is the that he thought and reached to $200. May be he thought about the business class travel as the person travelling is on higher post on the company.
If you are able to measure your productivity, no one will say that you are unproductive.
