The First Snowfall

This weekend was our first "real" snow fall for the winter season. My children, usually impossible to get motivated in the morning, all woke up on Sunday. They peeked out their windows to see 3 inches of the most perfect snowman making snow imaginable. All three ran into my room chanting...
"Can we play outside???"
I looked at my clock. 6:31 it said.
"Sure, why not!" They were all dressed in their winter clothes and outside in 5 minutes. They played and played, rolling snowball after snowball. I don't know how she did it, but Sydney rolled one ball almost as big as she is!!! Over the course of the day, they had spent at least 4-5 hours playing and rolling snowballs.
Now, if only school were that interesting. LOL!
Do you have any snow memories? Things you or your children couldn't wait to do on the first snowfall?

We have not had any snow yet this year. My daughter is not quite 2, so I don't know that she even remembers snow from last year. She went out in it a few times, but not for long. My son loves to go out and play in the snow, but he does not stay out for very long. He gets cold and comes back in.

Yeah here in Minnesota as well we have had very little snow. We did get 3 inches one day but that was gone in 2 days. Now we got an inch over the weekend but that is almost gone now as well. I need snow.
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I don't blame him for not staying out too long. My toes get so cold!!
When my children were really young, we'd bring the snow to them. My husband and I would fill up a big plastic tote with snow and bring into the kitchen. The kids could play in the snow, but not get so cold. We had a lot of little kitchen snowmen those winters. :)

How lovely. I live in Australia now, but my parents have a photograph of me with my brother, outside in the snow on a homemade sled in our big, warm, winter coats, hats and mittens. I can still remember the scrunchy feel of the snow, and smell it in my nostrils. It would be lovely to have a white Christmas - but no chance here!

I'd love to send you some snow. I don't know if it will get through customs. :(
I could never imagine not having Christmas without snow.

What a beautiful memory you have created for yourself and your kids. It sounds so surreal. I loved the first snow when I was a kid. I grew up in Alaska, and when the first snow was deep enough...6 inches or so, my dad would hook up this large tabogon on the back of the snow machine and my friends and I would get on and he would take us up into the woods (there were trails) and hills behind our house. It was marvelous. Then we would go back to the house and my mom would give us all hot chocolate. We'd then go back out and play for several more hours, building snowmen and making snowangles. There was also the occasional snowball war. Thanks for reminding me of this great memory.

It does sound like a great memory! Are you still in Alaska? You are always welcome here, if you long for snow. (we're in Iowa!)

Thanks for the invite. No we are in Oregon now. It doesn't snow much where I live, only the mountain ranges usually. We may get snow a couple of times a year, but it isn't much. I miss Alaska.

As a child on out first snowfall we always walked through the ditches burying ourselves sometimes in the deep deep snow. My kids never really cared for the snow or cold though. We still have none onm the ground. Well we have some but the grass is still visible.

Well, Bob, If I can convince the post office that snow isn't hazardous material, I'll send some up to you. We have more than enough. The temperatures are cold enough, too, I don't see it going away anytime soon. I bet the grandkids enjoy it, though... especially when grandpa Bob finds the steepest hill for them to sled down, right? LOL!

I used to love to go out in the snow and use my sled, build a snaowman and an igloo. that was so much fun. We have only had a few flurries this year. None of the snow stuck on the ground. It was very disappointing.
