my cat was run over today

a very sad day for me today. i have 5 cats, or i did. sadly now i only have 4. i am absolutely devastated. my husband rang me at work this afternoon, and said my 2nd eldest cat had been run over and killed. she was a beautiful white tabby, very bad tempered with the other cats, but i loved her dearly and she loved being cuddled by her favourite human owners. she would make her'grumping' noise if she thought any of the other cats were invading her personal space or pinching her food, but would purr as loudly as an engine when being fussed over. she was getting old ,15, but i have got a 20 year old cat , and other cats of mine have reached their 20's . So i was so shocked when she was run over. i dont know who did it, but whoever it was, picked her up off the road and put her on the path near our house. she didnt wear a collar, so there was no way of finding out where she lived. a passing taxi driver spoke to one of my neighbours who knew my cat and came round to tell my husband. she was still warm when he picked her up , but she had gone, so i truly hope it was instant and she didnt suffer. hope you dont mind me sharing this with you. her name was strawberry kit kat but she was called baby cat for short. all my other cats are called by conventional cat names- tyson, felix , tux and sally, but kitkat was a real character and deserved all the nickames we called her by. I shall really miss her.

i am so sorry to hear about your cat margerydaw14
i know how hard it is to lose a pet, they become your babies and you get attached to them on a different kind of level.
at least the person who hit her had the decency to pick her up and take her off the road...
again im so sorry to hear about your cat

you echo my feelings exactly, because although i am very upset, who ever it was who knocked her over, did as much as they could. i couldnt have borne the image of , well rather than spell it out, i have seen cats run over in the middle of the road and just left. so thank you very much for your comment. and yes all my cats are my babies. i was at work when my husband rang me , and i was sitting there talking to him with tears running down my face, all very quiet, but i was told to go straight home, which was very kind of the people i work with. they know how i am with my cats and my dog.
thank you for your kindness

all animal lovers know how devastating it is to lose a pet and i know if i ever lost any of my pets (i have 2 dogs and a cat) i wouldn't be coming into work that day at all.
i still remember, it was about 2 years ago and i was driving back to my house and i saw a cat that had been hit and it was just lying there so i stopped on the side of the road..and discovered the poor thing was barely breathing and it had saliva coming out of its mouth it was an absolutely horrid image, and i grabbed a blanket out of my trunk and picked it up and brought it inside the fire station that was there so it wouldn't die on the street..there was nothing that we could do but at least it didn't die on the street

oh my :( this is the saddest news ever. I am a cat lover too and losing our beloved pets are really sad times. I really hope that you will try to remember your happy times with strawberry kit kat :) she was really lucky to be surrounded with so much love throughout her 15 years. take care.

yes it is so sad. but i am remembering the good times, she was a very precious cat , and a great individual. i got up this morning and it was sooooo quiet. she was very vocal first thing in the morning, about 6 am. onwards, reminding me not to forget to feed her first, not the others, just her. the other cats seem to be a bit bewildered as there are now only 5 of them.
but thank you for your kind thoughts, we loved her very much and miss her so much

just let it out , better to tell a story and let ethe heart roam again then to hide such a tragic event and lose a heart that is worth it.

I am so sorry that someone hit your cat and ran away. When i was a kid and we got our first dog. We named her canny and we got her when she was hardly a week old. In those days we all had habit of sleeping in noon and when whole family was sleeping i dont know how she sneaked out and there was a group of street dogs ( stray dogs) who attacked her and though we did everything we could and vet tried his level best too but alas she couldnot be saved and in about few months she was with us, we got so fond of her that we still talk about her even after 14 years and i know on the day she passed away none on my family members except dad ( me, my mom,sis and younger brother) eat and even next day dad has to coax us to have food and it was like some very close family member has passed away.

My heart goes out to you. I know how I felt when my pet cats were poisoned or killed somehow..
My cats are like family to me..so anything they suffer would be painful to me; so I can understand.
I hope you recover from this sad news soon.

Oh my dear, margerydaw14, I am so sorry. Of course we don't mind you talking about it here, especially if it helps you out in any way.
I know you must be absolutely devastated. If I could I would give you a huge (((((hug)))) and just let you cry.
She was obviously a very loved cat and was blessed by the life you gave her.
You have probably experienced this before...... be prepared for the remaining cats to grieve for her. It is heart wrenching. Just pull each other through this.
Be well!

i am very sorry you lost your girl. but don't be sad. she is still with you. she has only gone to a different dimension.by that i mean she will always be with you. my mimi girl is with me, i feel her on my bed every now and then.she does make her presence known believe me. they have a way of letting you know they are looking out for you. so take comfort in that thought.

I'm sorry for your lose. Just think that your cat is somewhere better now and it hasn't pain now. Let it go and you will just be fine. It will only take some time, that's all.

you are right it does take time. she didnt suffer, it was quick as far as i am aware. i went round to see my neighbour, the one who came round to let us know. and she couldnt believe that one minute my cat was alive and sitting on our window sill and the next minute gone. she is a lovely neighbour and doesnt miss much and she cant understand why she didnt hear anything. but at least she was kind enough to come round and let my husband know straight away. she said if i had been in, she would have picked the cat up and took her in to her house as she knows how attached i am. but youre right , you have to let go in time. time hasnt arrived for me yet, but it will.

Was kitkat a indoor cat or outdoor cat. Most named cats are kept indoors
for there protection. The tales of cats having 9 lives is not true
just ask kitkat. She was very special to you and your husband.
Who put the cat out in front of a car. Maybe she was tired and
commited sucide. This happens to Dogs a lot, I have 2 cats living
with me and my family. Actualy we live in there house as you well know.
They see the outside world through a window.

kitkat was like my other cats. they are out all day, and live in my greenhouse and back garden. and then about 4 oclock they come in for their food and normally stay indoors , until the morning. i dont think any body put my cat in front of any car. i live in a cul de sac which is like a big circle and sadly people dont watch their speed.
