The other day a co worker of mine was telling me that she was reading on the net that one could have the cremated ashes of a deceased loved one made into a diamond. To me, thought of wearing a deceased person dangling from your ears as a pair of diamond earrings or proudly displayed in a band on your finger is, well, a bit morbid. But after hearing this information, I looked up this information and low and behold, there is a company called LifeGem that does exactly this!! And for you pet lovers, you may also have the ashes of your dearly departed pet turned into a diamond as well. There is more information about this at the following links: http://jewelry.about.com/cs/syntheticdiamonds/a/lifegem_diamond.htm http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/2209799.stm What do you think about this? Would you consider having the ashes from your deceased loved one turned into a diamond to wear?

I would not have a problem with that. I have heard about that before. I might or might not chose to make a "diamond" though. I am more interested in the way that ashes can be mixed into concrete to use in the construction of permanent ocean reefs, especially since many of them are being destroyed either by nature or man.

That's an interesting thought.

Yes, I've heard about this and commented on it before. I like the idea of having the remains of a precious loved one made into a precious gem. I would know that I was carrying a small part of that person with me & I would be proud to do so. I think its far more morbid to confine those ashes in a pot somewhere never to see the light of day. If the loved one brought beauty and happiness to my life in their living years, what better way for that to continue.

That's a very lovely and interesting way of looking at it.

I had a similar discussion a long time ago - probably way off the books now... Kind of puts a new twist on heirloom jewelry doesn't it? you not only pass down granny's ring - you pass down granny! (and her ears, and ribs, and and and) I am rather queezy with the idea of cremains itself - forget wearing them!

well i think its less creepy than those people that carry vials with ashes in them around their necks lol.. i dont wear jewelry so there is no way this would appeal to me but i dont know if i could ever really see it.. and omg it would be horrible if a jewel thief stole your family member!
