My Microwave Blew-up

A few days ago, I pressed the button to open the microwave and when the door opened there was a loud pop and a spark. It blew the circuit breaker also. Well, I use the microwave alot for re-heating leftovers and my kids use it to cook frozen meals and snacks. That evening I had to heat the leftover veggies on the stove top. I'm thankful I do have that option, since I don't know when we will go shopping for a new microwave. I know I could live without one, but not sure I want to. Do you use your microwave oven often. Could you do without it?

Hi, caver1. I am sorry to hear about this. I am glad that you was not hurt after pressing on the button to open up your microwave oven. It can be rough just trying to warm up anything on the stove that you planned on using in the microwave oven. I could not do without having a microwave oven because if my stove was to ever go out, I can always have this as a back up.

You do have to planned ahead if you are cooking or reheating with the stove. We do have a new microwave now so all is good.

My husband would do ok, since he grew up without a microwave. But the kids wouldn't begin to know how to heat up leftovers or frozen meals without one. And sorry it took so long to respond. I've been out of touch for awhile.

i used to be really dependent on the microwave at home :) but now after moving to a place without one, i can proudly say that I am managing just fine. It takes a little longer to heat food though but it's okay. I just miss microwave popcorn though! haha

I didn't have a microwave when I first married and we did just fine also. Oh, and the popcorn. We never make popcorn on the stove anymore. I would miss that too.

We use our microwave several times a day to reheat coffee, thaw frozen food for dinner, heat up a plate of leftovers for lunch, make quick meals - yeah, we'd be in trouble without it, for sure. We blew ours up about a year and a half ago in pretty much the same way, and replaced it within the week. It was a god-send this past year when our landlord stopped paying the gas bill and we were without any stove top or oven.

I do miss it. I also use it to defrost something quickly for dinner. I usually heat water in it for tea, also. Now that will take longer. Maybe we will have time to go shopping this weekend for a new one.

That is exactly what we did. We bought a new one Sunday at Wal-Mart. My main condition about which mircowave to buy was that it be deep enough to hold a 13x9 casserole dish. So I took my tape measure to the store and measured microwave. That must have looked silly!

I could do without it. In my house, the microwave's just there... waiting for us to use it. Actually, we have two microwaves. The first is busted - just stopped working all of a sudden - so we're using it for storage because it is pretty big. The second one that we bought is smaller and it's just sitting there, in case we need it. A microwave's more of a convenience than a necessity in our house, I guess. We use the stove-top often and use the microwave just for reheating food when we don't want to wash pans and stuff. :D Hope your microwave gets fixed soon! :)

The microwave is certianly a convenience, just one I don't wish to do without. We often have leftovers from a previous meal and it is so much easier to reheat in the microwave. I think we will replace it instead of trying to fix it. It is 15 years old, so it has served it's time.
