A necessity is defined as something necessary or indispensable: food, shelter, and other necessities of life.
or
the fact of being necessary or indispensable; indispensability: the necessity of adequate housing.
A luxury is defined as a material object, service, etc., conducive to sumptuous living, usually a delicacy, elegance, or refinement of living rather than a necessity: Gold cufflinks were a luxury not allowed for in his budget.
or
free or habitual indulgence in or enjoyment of comforts and pleasures in addition to those necessary for a reasonable standard of well-being: a life of luxury on the French Riviera
For me, I consider the Internet a luxury because I do not use it for work and its not a huge source of income for me. If I was at the point where I was struggling to pay my bills and could not afford food, it is one of the first things I would cut. What I don’t understand is people who are complaining that they can’t pay there bills, afford food, are on government assistance, buy their children xmas presents, all the while complaining about it on the Internet. I never understood how people like that could afford a computer let alone the Internet. I don’t buy the excuse that it’s needed for research purposes because go to a library, same goes with having to type papers.
A lot of people think that a lot of today’s technologies are a necessity but they really are not. A computer is not a necessity unless you are using it as part of your job, and even then a lot of companies supply there employees the computers they need for their job. Cell phones I can see how this can be a necessity, but if your phone has Internet, camera, mp3 player, and all whatever else that’s available for cell phones…it’s a luxury. I think the only time a cell phone is not a luxury is when its your primary phone, it’s a work phone, and you have for emergencies only. For me a cell phone is a necessity because my car keeps breaking down and because of my job. Even then it’s rarely used.
So what do you think?? Is the internet and other technologies necessity or luxury??

i think both internet and mobile have become necessity today. With all the information available on the internet, if you use it in a right way, you can surely cut down on some of the bills you pay. You can acquire new skills and maybe do better at work. To me internet is more like an information bank, when in doubt about something, get onto the internet and check. Cheers :)

i think they are both necessity's to a point.. i think every one needs a basic cell phone for safety.. internet if the person knows how to use it can save them money than them not having it and doing things the old way but if they dont know how to use it well then i think its not worth having.. but my internet i swear supplies my oxygen so i think i require it to live lol
