How Much Time Do You Find for Reading Books?

This is a very common question in this present day of Internet and cable TV. These two systems take away most of my time in a day. For reading books, I find very less time at present. What about you friends? Are you finding sufficent time for reading books? Please discuss...

Not very much these days. I agree that the tv and the internet, plus my nintendo ds are very big competitors as to my attention, and I must admit that reading has lost out to these three for quite some time. I remember just devouring book after book while I was still in school. Although I was also addicted to the tv then, it was no competition when it comes to reading. The last time I probably made time to read a book was last week when my sister got her twilight paperback. I was really curious, and so I read it, but I think I like the movie better LOL!

Being an avid reader, I understand perfectly what you are saying. Our lives are so busy that it's getting harder and harder to set aside time for one of our favorite hobbies. I usually keep a book with me at all times, at least a paperback one that fits nicely into my bag. There are many times throughout the day where you have to wait in line, or wait your turn. I call these my 'stolen' minutes, where I can get a few pages in. You'd be surprised, if you try this, how much reading you can actually get done. Waiting has become a global pasttime...lol. I also read while I eat my meals and before I go to bed I like to take a nice hot bath with a good book. Good luck finding a few extra reading minutes!

You are quite welcome! I discovered another one yesterday. Where I live there seems to be a lot of road construction going on. Pair that with a car accident, and sometimes you can be sitting in your car for quite a while. Yesterday I sat for 15 minutes waiting for traffic to move, thankfully the accident was a minor one! I enjoyed a bit of stolen reading time. It sure beats sitting in the car doing nothing!

I read every night before I sleep. I suffer from insomnia, and reading before bed helps me sleep :) I try to read for between 30-60 minutes each night. I really love reading!

I generally read for about 30 minutes to an hour each night during the week. Sometimes a bit longer on the weekends. It is relaxing and gets my mind off the insanity of the day.

I spend a little time reading each day. I am always reading an autobiography, and I still actually purchase and read the daily newspaper. I will go online and read the newspaper from my old hometown too. I guess I spend about 2 to 3 hours a day reading. I really enjoy it.

hello buddy, i do agree with you. internet, cable television and video games take a lot of time away from us.... that we could have used to get some physical activity and also at the same time read books. well actually i do not watch mush of the television or play video games. most of my extra time goes for the internet. but despite that i take some time out that i find to read some interesting novels that my sisters bring to read. they always get the latest books and all and so i get some time to read them. have a good day and happy postings over here at my lot.

I love to read, and I read almost everyday. I carry a book with me almost all the time. I usually finished 2-4 books a week, depending on how busy my schedule is. I'm not fond of watching TV. Although I'm online most of the time, I can only stay for long, before I'm picking up a book. I don't think I'll ever change despite how busy things can be, I will always have time to read even just a few pages of my current book.

I don't find as much time reading books these days, but I recognise the value of doing so and so now I schedule in time during my day (usually about mid-afternoon) to catch up on my reading. I have always read a lot and cannot remember a time when I did not have a book I was reading. It's just that these days, they are getting read slower! :-) Derek

These days am more on e-media and very less on printed media materials. Quick search on internet helps me much rather than looking for one book. In fact to look for one reference of item and I have to buy the related book(let say), I think it is no longer a pragmatic way for knowledge finding. Much more better on internet web page, whereby, I can read many comments from e-surfers on that particular topic or search item. It doesn't mean that I totally rejected those printed medias or book materials, no, but there are many quick ways now available on internet. It just like a printed location map, not an obsolete item, but people now would be much comfortable to carry along their GPS device. More convenience, so called.

Not as much as I used to because I do spend more time online and also doing projects around the house that I used to put off. I see my friends a little bit more now that I am retired but many of them are still busy and that makes it hard for them. At least email helps me keep in touch.

Hi Mitraa, I try to make time; I would read an hour or so, before sleeping on weekdays. And on weekends, if I don't have any appointments or work, I would stay home, and therefore have more time to read, besides watching TV or spending time on the internet.

Nothing to discuss. I got no time. lol But seriously... I am in the same boat. But it is a matter of choice. I obviously prefer to watch DVDs and spend time on the internet than reading. If my favourite hobby was to read... that's what I would do. And I do quite a bit of reading on the internet... which teach me a few things that I would not learn while reading a fiction novel.

I'm not much of a reader at all. I stay too busy working online to have much time for reading other than things I have to read while on the internet.

I find quite a bit of time for reading. I always carry a book with me every where I go. I hate waiting in line or at doctors offices. When I am in a position where I have to wait I get my book out and start reading. That way I don't feel like I wasted my time by having to wait on someone else and my nerves don't get frayed.

good question. i hate reading first off, but there is a few books out there that i love. anyways from school, mylot, tv and sleep i rarly have time to read. when i come home everyday i tend to get online and check everything that i have an account with and that alone takes at least an hour. then i get on mylot and spend the majority of my time looking for new disscussions to find out new things and posting to them, so the answer i from me would be very soldum i have time to read.
