As part of my New Years Goals, I've decided that I am going to walk at least 2-3 miles a day. How many of you walk as part of your exercise routine? If you do, how far do you walk? Do you use a pedometer? And, has walking helped you lose weight and get more fit?

I have some mobility issues, so I rise public transportation more than I walk. I walk around the mall quite a bit, but that's mainly because there is ap lace to sit when I need one. Otherwise, I only really walk when I need to.

I like walking the mall too. If I do four laps it is equal to 2 miles. I too like the fact that there are benches where you can sit and rest.

I heard eating a small bit of protein or drinking milk after exercise helps. Thanks for the response.

I love dancing, but there is no where to go around here. Guess I could always dance around the living room though. LOL. Thanks for the suggestion, it's a good one.

hey cdw,
I used to love to walk the track at the local middle school-I knew four laps equaled one mile so i could average out how much I was getting accomplished & though it may not sound like much I was up to twelve laps just about everyday when I had to quit. I've gotten back out a couple times but when i do i only get in maybe three to four laps. Walking never really affected my weight but it made my legs & booty tight lol

I need the legs and booty tightened, lol. Wish I were close enough to the school, then I would do that as well. What a great way to get in a good walk. It is great to get so many wonderful suggestions. Thanks meme.

That's a great goal! I've been meaning to start exercising, but always put it off. I'm such a lazy bum. If my apartment complex had a gym I would be going there everyday. I think I'm going to start exercising more after I finish my final exams for school.

Good for you. We all need to exercise. I am such a procrastinator when it comes to exercise though. I really hate it. I too wish there was a gym close by. I would use it. Thanks for your reply. I hope you really do get walking after your exams.

Yes walking is brilliant way to excercise and lose weight.I try to go somewhere most days where I walk even it it is round the supermarket as that counts, we spend a good half hour walking around the supermarket time yourself,we are very fortunate where we are lots of lovely walks through wonderful countryside and we can cover miles and we often do, it is the freedom and fresh air it is such a stress release. If I go into town I walk past two bus stops which is about half a mile and they the walk round town for an hour is marvellous excercise, and walking round the shops it does not feel like you have been walking for an hour until your legs start aching. Then when I get home I know I have a good half mile walk home ,make sure I do not have to many heavy bags.My garden is 200 yards from end to end so all I have to do is walk up and down about ten times and I have done over a mile as 1,760 yards to a mile roughly so I am lucky even if I have not got much time or am expecting a vistor I can still do a few laps of the garden.

Thats awesome. You really have it figured out well. I wish I knew how many miles/yards it was to walk my yard. We don't have many great places to walk near where I live, so I have to improvise. Thanks for a terrific response.
