I think more people use candles nowadays. They use it aroud their bath tub while they soak themselves. Others use scented candles for therapy purpose. i Don't think candles are old fashioned I have a close friend that collects candles and evertime I see her collection I'm always mesmerized by it.

come to think about it,they are very popular considering they are used as ornaments, for weddings, restaurants, party tables, birthdays, church, and many other situations..i just thought people don't usually keep them in their house unless it is a special ocasion

no. and it wont get old fashioned alos. Candles were developed independently in many countries. The Egyptians and Cretans made candles from beeswax, as early as 3000 BC. Early candles were made from various forms of natural fat, tallow, and wax. In the 18th century, spermaceti, an oil produced by the sperm whale, was used to produce superior candles. Late in the 18th century, colza oil and rapeseed oil came into use as much cheaper substitutes. Paraffin was first distilled in 1830, and revolutionized candle-making, as it was an inexpensive material which produced high-quality, odorless candles that burned reasonably cleanly and were used during the colonial days. The industry was devastated soon after, however, by the distillation of kerosene (confusingly also called paraffin oil or just paraffin). This excellent fuel for lamps relegated candles to their current status as primarily decorative items.

They are nice for decoration and for a romantic dinner at home. Other than that, they are a waste of money.

Are you kidding? I use candles all the time and know a lot of people that do. I not only use them for just soft/relaxing light, but for their aromatic qualities too. I love the ambiance candles create, even when it isn't for a romantic interlude. It is just peaceful to sit in a room that glows in candlelight. I give candles often for gifts too, they are one gift that most people love to get and you can really never have too many of.

I use pillar candles in my fire place. Sure beats cutting wood and cleaning out ashes. Not only are they decorative when not in use they also help heat the house. You would be surprised at how much heat 7 candles put out. I burn them all day long during the cold months. Only put them out when we are gone and at night. Its also surprising how long some of the candles last. I can use them up to a week. And they only cost $2 per candle.

I don't think candles are old-fashioned at all! Nothing makes a room look cozier than having candles around the room. I use them all the time, not just for setting a romantic scene, but to make the house nicely scented. There's so many different scented candles anymore, it just makes it smell so good...whether they're lit or not!

I love candles. Alwys have. Being a Pagan I use candles for many diffrent reasons. Sometimes because Iwant to make my home smell pretty and others are for spells and rituels. Plus it is best to have a few candles arround incase of a power outage too.

I absolutely love candles. I didn't use them for a long time, because I was afraid to use them around my kids. But now that they are a little older... I can't get enough. I love their scents and colors. I love what they do to a room. I'm such a romantic!! Candles just do so much for any decor I think!!
