December 12, is my last day of employment. I have a form to fill out and take back to my present employer today, a representative from the Labor Department is there to assist us in applying for our unemployment compensations.
On this form is a question how many words can you type per minute/typing speed?
If you can type how many words can you type per minute?

I useta could type 130 words per minute! Honest! I was tested and all! I was a typesetter/proofreader for 20+ years. Most of that time I worked from home as a sub-contractor for publishing and printing companies so I could work as many hours as I wanted. At times, I'd be working 14 hours a day!
So, I got really fast simply by typing so much. But, I haven't done that kind of work for awhile now and have slowed down tremendously! I'm now typing about 80 words per minute. The connection between my brain and fingers keeps shorting out so I have to keep backing up and fixing errors I make.
I remember when I first started typesetting. My computer was MUCH slower than this one (we're talking 20 years or so ago, remember) and it would yell at me to slow down! BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP!!!! Okay, okay!
Now that computers are so much faster now, I'm not doing that work anymore. Figures, huh?

Funny you should call me that! Waaaay back, before marriage and kids, I won a radio contest, an all-expense-paid trip to the Caribbean and sailing around for 7 days.
We could be entered into this contest as many times as we could by being certain number callers, like they'd enter caller 1, 2 and 3 or callers 7, 8 and 9... like that. They were doing this every hour for two weeks.
I got something like 140 entries! I was so fast at dialing the phone (okay, pushing the buttons) that I'd sometimes be caller 1 AND 3 or 7 AND 9. LOL
They called me 'Fast Fingers Marti'.

I hate typing tests. I always get nervous and mess up, lol. I can score about 70 wpm on a typing test. I probably type closer to 80 wpm without the "test" presure. How many do you type per minute? Sorry about you having to look for another job. That seems to be happening alot these days.

When I went to night school, (I have a certificate in Medical Transcribing), I could get no higher than 40 WPM and that was hard to do without 40 mistakes per minute.. I did finally get the required amount to graduate, but it wasn't easy at all.. When I started working on ebay, and doing other things on the net and realized how easy it was to correct my mistakes, I am now able to type about 50 WPM without that many mistakes.. I can at least watch the screen when typing and know when I make a mistake although I don't always do that and end up submitting a response with many mistakes..

Hey chevee! Wow, that is a really good question! I haven't
been time in a very long while! I never did well on those
timed writing tests though. I always was able to type very
fast, but as soon as they put those timers on then I had a
problem! They test you for speed and accuracy so that does
take alot away from your typing speed! I used to type at
least 60wpm. Now I think I might type more because I have
been doing so much typing, but I'm really not sure. There is
a few websites where you can practice your typing for speed
and accuracy. I can't remember what they are, but if you
want I can find out. I'm sure someone will know, but if they
don't I will find out. I actually need to practice myself.

Me personally I can type an easy 60-80 WPM just thinking off the top of my head, But being read what I have to type or reading it my self I have hit speeds of 100-120 WPM. My friends at school always loved to have me type for them cause I could type out a 2 page paper in like 10 Min, with a 90% correct Word Spelled Margin. The only reason I ever got this good at typing was that before I ever owned a computer I owned an old Computer type Typewriter. One that was a typewrite and a base word program. It was an awesome machine I used to just sit there and type for hours on it. I never got bored of typing also I have an odd skill it can type at those speeds with only 2 fingers both my forefinger I used my other fingers sometimes but most of the time its just my pointer fingers.

If I am taking one of those online typing test I mess up all the time and it makes my WPM go down. According to those tests I only type around 35 words per minute, but it is probably closer to 40 or 45 depending on what I am typing. If I am typing straight from my head it is the faster end of that.

Hi Chevee,
I didn't know they still ask that sort of questions these day, as most people use the computer, I sure the typeing speed is pretty good but is it still that important? I have only just learned how to use my computer last six months and i know my typeing speed has come to leaps and bounds and it is fairley fast but I don't know what speed though as I have never timed myself. Good luck and hugs.

Hi!
Most of my time is consumed during word or sentence or topic changeover than other persons. Otherwise I have good speed 70-80 words per minute. When it comes to regional language it sinks to 30-40 only. Also I am mastering in the Keyboard shortcuts. I open the windows at a pace that the observer can not judge where I am working exactly.

By the way,I type Chinese.
If I type English, the speed will be very low.
That depends on what language you are using and how familar you are with the words.
However, nowadays, typing is becoming less important and I think it is unfair to fire a employer who's typing is bad!

To be honest, I've never timed myself but I do like to think I can do at least around 50-75 words/minute. It depends on whether or not I know what I'm writing or I'm thinking it up as I go.

I can type about 70+ words per minute. I like to type and always have so I guess it just came easy to me. Most of the prior jobs that I have had involved a lot of typing too, so I've improved as time has gone by. I hope you find a new job soon that you like. What is the job that you have now?

I have never really taken any typing tests, but I think I can comfortably type around 50 words per minute, typos included. I have to say that my typing speeds increased after i joined mylot when I have to type and since i have a time constraint usually, I type as fast as possible and make the most of the time that I have. I do not know typing properly but I can still manage with a fast speed somehow.
