If you're the owner of myLot, what features would you add to this site?

As the holiday and 2009 is fast approaching, a lot of things will become obsolete and will be replaced with something new. Kinda like saying, you'll make a new year's resolution then change yourself for the better.
So does myLot need to change something for the better?
I would have to say YES, YES, YES!
I mean let's face it. Discussing, responding, discussing, responding, bla bla bla. This kind of activity will turn out to be very boring as time pass. I really think myLot should roll in some new and exciting features for 2009.
OK, I'll go first:
Games on myLot - we will earn and collect points by playing games. Then we will exchange those points to either cash or rewards such as iPod, XBOX 360, Playstation 3, PSP, or whatever rewards they want to offer us. This is like the concept of Kiwibox (see my profile for the link).
Instant $2.00 / $1.00 to a new member's account - this will urge our referrals to stay and be active. Let's be honest, we're all attracted to that dollar ($) sign!
And they should let us embed a video for our discussions / responses - as we all know, video sharing is getting more popular since YouTube was born. This would help myLot become more interactive and exciting. Exciting because we can make a video of ourselves presenting our opinions for a particular discussion. Then if we will upload our videos to YouTube and other video-sharing sites, we are promoting myLot at the same time thus contributing to the growth of the myLot community.
That's all for my wishlist!
Do you want to add more?
Let's discuss it here, then I will send this discussion to the myLot admin for them to hear our wishes.
Let peace reign. Let love rule.

hi ron,
you have some great ideas, they can also include some kind of support groups for mylotter who have families overseas (Iraq). There are many people that would like to hear from other, who sons, daughter, husbands etc who are over there. Like a chat room, they can also add rooms so that people can get to know each other. this would also add to the earning. Each time a person goes into a room, they will get credit. just my thought.

Great idea, this would open a new door for referring other people to this site. It will also serve as a good reason for our referrals to become active members. Although your idea of "each time a person goes into a room, they will get credit" may be acceptable, I think this will open up an abuse since members can create fake accounts. Perhaps credits will be based by how much hours we spend on a particular chatroom, but this will increase our electricity bills though.

For the chat room it would be a certain amount. for example 50 cents for an hour or a 1 dollar a day, so, this would mean that you can come and go all day long for a 1 credit. It's interesting to see what other ideas come through.

They actually have a free survey site like that which I'm apart of. You trade your points in for the same kind of gifts you have mentioned, or cash. The only problem is you get a survey thrown your way every 2 thousand years. If I had to change one thing about mylot, itt would be the rules and guidelines. Soem of the stuff is stupid they do here. I responded to a discussion a few days back, and when I pressed submit, I got a violation of terms message. It said the following words you used are in violation of mylot's terms of use. The word I used was "L1quor". You notice how I had to replace the "I" with the number 1. That was the dumbest thing I ever heard of. I wonder what other dumb words that people aren't allowed to use here. But that's one thing I would change. I would let the people be a little more free to express them selves the way the want. I have seen many people complain about their conversations getting removed by the mylot administration. I know one guy started a converstation about Barak Obama, and for what ever reason it got pulled. You would think the guy was in here talking about an assasination plot.

I think myLot is also implementing the same way Yahoo and other e-mail services used to combat spam. Spammers usually change the spelling of forbidden words in order for their e-mails to gain access to someone's inbox. Yahoo is getting smart on filtering these misspelled words. I just thought that myLot is using the same technique, I'm not really sure though.
I also started a discussion regarding President Barack Obama but it hasn't been deleted http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1781016.aspx. I guess that particular member had included something to his discussion that myLot wasn't pleased about.
I'm curious, what's the URL of that survey site you're referring to?

I would agree with more incentives and maybe the spell checker. I'm pretty good with mylot the way it is and like another member said, there are already sites for the games and stuff. Of course, I guess it would be a nice addition to mylot for the loyal members to have some extra features. I have found myself bored with mylot recently, so maybe some new features would perk me up again.

That's the point, boredom may strike anytime to any member, even to those who are saying they aren't bored. As what a CSI actor had said, "there's always a first time" but a new feature may eradicate the chance of having one.
Once again, if you want a spell-checker, then use Firefox instead of Internet Explorer. Firefox has a built-in spell checker and much more faster and secure than other internet browsers out there. Download it here http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

I think, like hildas said, more incentives. For ex., $1 for every level we complete and $1 for every "best response". $5 for anyone that has been on here for more then 5 years with a $1 added for every year thereafter.
I would personally like to see added a way to go back into a discussion that we have started to thank everyone that has responded if the answers are all the same. It's a pain to respond to each and every response that we get when it's all the same response. Also, a way to go back into edit after we have posted and not noticed a mistake we made on writing.

I think myLot wouldn't let us edit our discussions is because they didn't want us to hide our carelessness that may lead to a deleted discussion / response. I'm not sure if I'm joking but that's just my guess. Personally, I think this is a great way for us to improve with our writing skills. myLot is training us to become more aware of our mistakes. You can make use of it by previewing your discussions / responses first before posting them.
And if you want to decrease your chance of having misspelled words, then use Firefox instead of Internet Explorer. Firefox has a built-in spell checker - you will find it very handy. Download Firefox here http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

I think mylot is currently doing a great job. But if I am the owner of mylot I will love to bring a lot of competitions and prizes for mylotters. First I will start with a referral contest and then a video contest and reward the winners with the money. I will also reward the users with most best response in a month with a prize. By this way, I think it will be an encouraging thing for lot of users in mylot. Also I will reward the most active users in a month.

Very nice, that's another sure fire way of creating active members, an active community, that leads to an active site that both members and search engines would love. I like the idea of giving prizes for a user who have the most best response. This will encourage us not to post one-liner responses.

yea what your said is good and correct..what all we are sharing hear in comment are just for funny only..but in true maintaining a server or a website of a company is very hard to maintain..have to protect lot of things from unauthorized users like hackers..as our friends liked to have video conference, that will be good in mylot..but it takes lot of memory space..they have to create very huge server for buffering the video frames..youtube is having server in terabyte datas capacity.. one terabyte = 1024 gigabytes of data or sometimes used to refer as 1000 gb..youtube having lot of servers all over the world..if suppose mylot want to implement video stuff atleast it will take one year and they have to create security rules for controlling the adult videos too(lot of problems they have to face)..
thanks

I would like the ability to edit my posts, within a set amount of time, say like 4 hours. This way, If I realize that I made an error, I can fix it but after 4 hours, I can no longer do that.

I see, you're a teacher right? It must be tough to focus your attention to your students' next assignment and with mylot at the same time.
I'm quite sure that myLot is using a program / software that automatically checks and evaluate every discussions and responses for a day. Obviously, you can't expect them to read everything that are being posted by (let's say) 1000 active members. From this viewpoint, we should really try our best to avoid misspelled words and too much quotation marks and symbols to our discussions and responses. This will help their "automatic evaluating software" to rate our contributions in a more precise way thus, increasing our earnings.

Because sometimes I have not gotten back to check on my own writings, due to being busy. I will go back later, and see an error or something I left out that would be important to the content.
Also, anyone who does writing knows that you cannot proof-read your own work, right after writing it because you "see" what you are sure that you wrote. You either have to have someone else proof read it for you, or wait a few hours.

I will first list out the problems that I have here. Of course I will just wish to change that.
1) Messaging Feature ~ I would definitely try to change that if I am the admin. Sometimes the message doesn't get delivered properly. And I hate it.
2) Friends ~ In my friends profile itself I will add a button for "Delete from Friends list". Deleting some one from Friends list is a difficult task here. I have to go through all the friends to find that person.
3) Search ~ Performing searches can be improved. Searching for members, discussion, tags have to be separate.
4) Payment ~ About the payment, some sort of encouragement or targets should be set for the users to stay active. For example we have targets for 100(getting star), 200(smilies) and 500(copy paste). AFter that we don't have any. So from 500 onwards every 500 posts will get $1.
5) Ratings ~ Rating system isn't fair here. People just rate us negative if our opinion is different from theirs. Either the rating system must be done properly. I mean the reason for marking negative has to be asked. Some standard reasons must be added and only if the reason that the person give and the reason that is stored matches negative should be marked.
Or we can have the star rating based on the number of posts done by the members.. For every 100 posts the star rating should increase by 1 and it should stay at 10 after 1000 posts.
Your idea of adding sign up bonus is good. I do support that.

1. I don't know about you but the messaging feature of myLot works fine with me and my computer. Are you using dial-up?
2. Great idea. I just hope you won't delete me from your list.
3. I believe you can do that by using the Yahoo powered search bar at the top of every myLot page.
4. That's a good thing as well. Mylot should place a value with our hard work and the so-called dedication of using this site. This will also serve as an urge for our referrals to stay and become active members. Like I said, we're all attracted to the sign of money.
5. Personally, if I don't like the response of a certain member, I'll just let it sit there. I wouldn't bother giving a negative rating. Only those that are well-written and provides useful insights deserves the positive mark.

If we just message someone there won't be any problem. But if we work on with other pages of mylot and try messaging simultaneously in a new tab, it creates problem. The messages doesn't get delivered.
One person from my friends list was just creating too many discussions about his new website created in different ways. But the content was the same. So I posted saying not to spam mylot by posting the same thing. For that he used abusive languages. Will I want him in my friends list??? But still he is there because I couldn't delete him easily. You will be my friend forever. Haha.
Yahoo search is providing results of yahoo right?? Are they from mylot???
Ya even I don't mark negative so often. Only if its too abusive, I report it to the admin. If I like the post, I mark positive or else I won't do anything.

There is something that I would love to see on myLot and the thing that I want to see is a kind of loyalty reward system. This is to reward all those loyal and active members for example the criteria would be the length of time that they have been a member, the number of quality post that they have made (one liner or short posts should be excluded), and the number of best responses that they have received (again one liner or short posts should be excluded to avoid possible abuses from friends rating friends)...
It would be good if myLot would recognize people who have been contributing to the site and community by giving them something extra and therefore, indirectly, will motivate others to be more active and contribute to the growth of myLot in general.
The reward can be in a form of some cash bonus or free referral (from those who joined direct) and I am sure that members would be able to appreciate that an din return would be more excited to be active as well as promote myLot to others out there.
Cheers!

I would add better incentives like, maybe $1 for every thousand replys and maybe more for photographs and best responses.
I would add a spell checker and I would really like some music and video to comment on also. That would make mylot the best site around.
I would also clearly state the rules as half the time we are guessing on here. I really love this site though so I could live with it the way it is.

$1 for every thousand replies is a good idea. Although you might want to consider $1 for every 500 replies because gaining 200 responses is already tough to achieve not unless if a discussion is very interesting.
myLot doesn't need to have a spell checker. I bet you're using Internet Explorer huh!?! Well you should change your internet browser to Firefox. Not only that it's the best browser, but it also has a built-in spell checker. Download Firefox here http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
Same here, I love this site so much. The discussion and responding thingy should still stay because that's what this site is all about in the first place. But they should also provide some fresh and cool features from time to time so that our myLot experience won't become redundant.

I think they should give more incentive to earn more. Like, if I earn every 1000 posts they will reward me with 50 cents or maybe 1 dollar. And 1000 posts is very difficult to reach so I think it deserve a little reward.

Excellent point, myLot must value our hard work somehow! Like what the previous responder had said, it would be great if we are rewarded with the amount of responses we get from our discussions. She said that 1000 responses must be equal to a single buck. I prefer 500 replies = $1 though.

I think those are all great new additions, but I vote for maneuverability. My thing is the friends list. We should be able to go to a particular friend in the list by typing in the name, instead of having to search through the whole list. Also, we should be able to sort them by name, last date they posted, etc. This would make things a lot easier for everyone I think.

Hey great idea! I too had experienced the annoyance of having to browse the unordered list of friends. Now the first page of my friends list are old members that aren't active anymore. It would be a neat feature if the list will be dynamically arranged based on our friends' recent activities.

All I've really wanted for this site, and all I'll really ever want, is an edit button so I can fix my posts if I screw up. I wouldn't want games, mostly because this is a discussion site, and because online games would cost MyLot more to keep up with, which may end up meaning less money for you and me. If they could just advance their text editor a little bit by adding an edit, and maybe a spell checker of ability to change the font, that would be great. A signature would be nice, too, but that seems like asking for too much. I'd be elated with just the edit button.

Same with the previous responder, an edit feature would be neat. Personally, I totally dig the current font of myLot. I think it looks professional and tidy. If we are using different fonts, colors, and font sizes, this would make the discussion very immature and messy. It won't provide a good experience for the members and for the search engine visitors.
If you want a spell checker though, use Firefox! This internet browser has a built-in spell checker. Download Firefox here http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

Hi ronreyes,
No!!! i for one won't like that stuff you are talking about, I like mylot as it is because it is very educational for one as peolpe are learning all about other countries and also those who are not very ggod with writing English are doing that aon mylot and getting better as time goes on, and it good for spelling as well, if you want all those games, there are many games sites you can go to. There many older generation on mylot that don't really want all that stuff here. I am sorry I don't agree with you but that is my opinion and I love mylot ther way it is and mylot brings a lot friends together.

Having games on myLot is just a recommendation. I don't know and I'm not sure if myLot will take that to consideration. I just think it's a nice idea because it will make the site more exciting and interactive apart from the "embed a video" thingy. And not to mention "fun" as well.
I agree that adults in myLot may not pose an interest with this kind of idea but if ever myLot will implement this, then I guess it will be an optional thing anyway. Meaning, there will be a special page for games which you can visit only if you want to, which in this case, I would really do!

Maybe I think you are a game enthusiast.I don't agree with you about the games on mylot. If you want to play games, you can look for some game forum. But I agree with the second one, maybe it is a good idea. The third one is also a good advice. If someone like have a video discussion or responses, they will start it.

So you're gonna be like Tom of MySpace huh and Kiwigirl of Kiwibox!?!
Well yes, I'm a gamer. I think it's a great idea if myLot would develop games for this site. I know that a lot of members wouldn't raise their hand in favor of this one but it's an optional thing. The games would be separated and will have a special page for it. People can visit and play if they want to. If not, then go back to the same old routine of discussing. It's as simple as that.
