Cheaper? Probably not in the short run. But you can become permanently independent of government supply and have surplus to sell back to the government if you go solar. The technology has come a long way in the last twenty years. I don't know what it would cost in your country, but a solar system would set us back around A$6000 to set up, set against around A$800 a year in electricity bills, an amount that is set to rise dramatically as Australia puts carbon emission taxes into play. So, 6 years to amortise the set-up, less whatever we would get for selling electricity back to the grid. Well worth it, if only for the independence. And no problems if the power lines go down in a storm. Lash

Dear Friend I dont know about your country but in India I have enquired about solar system for household equipment and I found them much costlier than the electricity we are getting ,so I think you are right it will take another 5-8 years for electricity to be produced without need of dependence on the goverment Thanks for your response and such a nice information...! Dear Friend Yes I got you at that time ,solar system appear very expensive when you buy , even when I enquired the shop keeper selling it said same thing that after 5-6 years you would recover cost and get free electricity ....but you have confirmed this I doubt it before thanks for the same Thanks for your response and such a nice information...! Well actually what I was saying is that it would take 5 - 6 years to make enough savings with your solar system to pay for it. After that all your energy would be free. Lash

Go Solar - and this is the best alternative to consume electricity without being dependant on Government. I had a friend who took up this project for remote village areas and to his credit - he successfully executed that project. More and more use of solar powered equipment will not only save your electricity bill but also a great eco-friendly alternative. Besides barring their high initial investment solar energy yields well in the long run. So, this is the alternative energy we all should try to use.

Right now it is not cheap to buy solar but I guess the investment is worth investing if you have the money. I think solar technology is the next best thing to really get our energy virtually free because the energy does come from the sun. But right now technology wise and availability of it is not as widely being sold that is why the price are still high on the market. I really hope that someday they could resell at a much affordable rate so that everybody could enjoy the energy that we can get from the sun.

How about the solar power? When I traveled to Yunnan, I lived in a hotel which took advantage of the solar power. This is a very good idea. I love China

solar energy is the best way man. but in short run it will be costlier but when it goes in the long run u don't have any current bills and no powercuts but climate of the place a major role in solar energy..It will be benifitial for the environment too as it doesn't release any smoke like thermal enery.

Dear Friend Yes you are right solar system are initially costlier but with 5-6 years we recover their cost but like in my place in winters 3-4 months sun is hardly visible or low sunlight ,hope other time I can have solar energy/electricity Thanks for your response and such a nice information...! Dear Friend great but can you think of some other way beside using battery ,since it basically stores electicity and does not produce extra ??? I need to meet your son lol Thanks for your response and such a nice information...! Happy Mylotting Take Care Ganesh

Well we also have solar power here. Also we have wind power which is becoming a big idea here. West Texas has some big wind farms with huge turbines churning up the air. I understand they are very efficient and work well. But some people like farmers complain about the noise and how big the "fans" are cause the cattle are scared.

Dear friend, I do hope the best way in our place to produce electricity other than from the government electricity is from wind and solar energy. May this would be cheaper.

Hi Gamesh44, We do use electricity without ussing batterries everyday, we just plug it into the wall where wires are connected to earth wires. Tamara

If you have wind you can use wind power. i saw something on the Internet that said you could put in a wind power tower for about $200.00. Tht sounds cheap to me, and I'd have to really look into it, but at least it's something.

Ganesh44, It sounds like you already know the answer to this question, since you mentioned selling surplus energy. NOVA made a documentary titled Saved By The Sun which explores solar energy and shows people (and countries) that are using it effectively. Check your local library to see if they have it or you can get it through Netflix. If neither of these options is available to you, the movie is available for purchase at www.pbs.org and they also have a trailer you can watch. Solar cells aren't necessarily cheap, but they pay for themselves eventually. Happy MyLotting!
