If you want to make money then yes, it's a great way!, if you want to earn a living from ebay, this is harder to do. I have been using ebay for 3 years and have made a few thousand pounds selling stuff I no longer want. Whenever I buy something new, I know that if I no longer want/need this item, I can always get some or all of my money back from selling on ebay. For example, I purchased a Playstation 3 computer game for £20, completed it, and sold it 2 months later on ebay for £18.50...... not bad. In some cases, I've actually made profit selling the item.

It was a great site once but has become less seller friendly with time. If you are selling specific items, it can still work okay but some things such as books sell much better (and higher) with way less hassle on the book sites such as Amazon and ABE. High end items are better off going through catalogue auction. They will place the items on eBay but basically eBay only gets the bidding started. Almost always the high bidders are in the auction hall or on the auction phone. And the differences in amounts are astounding. I've known people to pickup antiquarian books on eBay for $3,000 and turn around and place the same book with a high end auction house and get $17.000. The auction house put the book on eBay but the eBay bidding stopped at $3,500 and the live auction bidding took it from there. Ebay has turned itself into a flea market and flea market items sell best there. Unfortunately, most sellers are now finding that they can do a lot better with even those items going to a local flea market once a week.
