I do not drive. I have never had a drivers liscence. I come from a family history of non drivers. My uncle in CA has never had a liense either, my mom drives but didn't get her license till I was 6 years old (my brothers were 16 and 14), neither of her parents (my grandparents) drove, my dad's dad did not drive either.

I wanted to drive since the first time I ever saw a car and when I was a little kid I went around practicing the hand turn signals even when walking. I got my own car as soon as I was physically and legally able, which was a looooong time ago, and I've been an avid driver ever since. But then, we lived in areas where they had no public transportation. I cannot even imagine not driving.

I have always managed without driving. Never had the money to buy a car to drive anyway so what good would a license do?

Hi, I know how to drive: I used to have a car but it broke. Now I only drive a motor bike and I like to drive it to work, but I have to say that I prefer a car because it's more dangerous to drive a motorbike between buses and other cars

Hi sweet~ I don't drive either. I have never felt comfortable
behind the wheel of a car. My driving instructor told me
when I was 16 years old that I would never drive. That wasn't
a very nice thing to tell a young person who was just starting
out. I didn't like him and didn't want him to teach me
anymore so that's what he said to me! That left a bad scar!
The funny thing was that my ex-fiance had a motor boat and
I could drive that thing all over the place, find my way
back without any directions and there are no signs on the
water. We never could understand why I could drive a boat,
which is very dangerous, but not a car! So to this day, I
still don't drive a car and will never even try again!

How come your family does not drive? I do and all in family does. Some may have started later than others. But eventually they all have learned or will learn. I live where there is no access to buses or taxi's. You have to go everywhere by foot if you don't drive. The store is 15 miles away.

Well lets see my grandfather did not drive because he was an amputee back in the day when there were no automatic transmissions, my grandmother drove briefly till my grandfather said he wouldn't ride with her driving so she stopped driving. My mother and her brother having both grown up with non driving parents did not drive either. My great uncle drove my grandfather and grandmother places or else they took a cab or walked. My grandfather owned a continental trailways bus station so if they needed to travel an extended distance he just booked them on a bus. My mother did eventually learn to drive but my uncle never did. He lives in Sacremento so he really doesn't have to.

Oh, I have driven a lot, but did not get my license til I was in my twenties. I drove a school bus in my early thirties and learned to drive stick doing it. I would love not to drive, sometimes, cause I get asked to do extra at many of my jobs.

What a lovely family of non drivers! LOL!! Well, I think I broke the family tradition by learning how to drive. I am still and rotten driver though, and I don't even own a car. ;) But I rode the scooter for nearly 2 years, and that was fun. Now, I use the public transport system since I sold the scooter a long time back to raise funds to go to Bangalore.
Cheers and happy mylotting

Everyone in my family drives. I do not anymore because I have double vision and dizzy spells so I am afraid I will cause an auto accident I do not drive. I do have a friend who drives me or I have the bus which takes me places.

I don't drive, and I never have, and never will. I have been legally blind all my life. I don't miss it a bit. I live in a wonderful city with a fantastic public transit system.
My husband is losing his vision to glaucoma and has stopped driving.

Oh absolutely I am a driver. I grew up in WA state and now I live in the 'inland empire' in CA... which is basically desert. Anyway, no matter where I've lived, the majority of people drive and drive themselves. There is no subway or layers of public transportation such as in big cities with massive downtowns like NY and MA.
Not only have I always lived in more suburb communities, even though I've been pretty close to entertainment, driving is still what everybody did. I took buses and walked when I was too young to drive, back in those days it was also reasonable as far as cost. These days, despite the gas prices, I do not think it's reasonable to buy a bus or train pass. Not when you consider how much walking you have to do, and the waiting around, etc.
I fully admit that I am impatient, I don't like having to count on or depend on other people for what *I* need to do, so for me to drive myself wherever I need to go is the only thing that works for me. I also have no problem driving other people but again it has to be on my timeframe.
One of my best friends from my 20s married a guy who had NEVER had a license - and I think he was in his early 20s by then. He was used to living in Boston with an excellent transpo system and so he didn't NEED to drive or have any desire to buy a car. Living out in CA it suddenly became a necessity because when she wasn't around, then he couldn't get around or do anything. It really sucks to be stranded because you cannot drive or don't have a vehicle. I do what I can to avoid that because at one point, I WAS without a vehicle for awhile and it was horrible. It was as if someone had chopped off my arms and made me dinner with them and asked me to eat them. yes, it was that bad. I had three kids at home at the time, two in school, one an infant. My husband was gone 11-12 hours a day between work and commute. Tell me you want to spend 6 hours trudging around town with kids in order to get everything accomplished. Never woulda worked.

I drive but I use public transportation or even walk whenever I can. Driving especially during rush hour makes me uptight. Guess I'm easily prone to road rage. Reminds of me of a joke I read which goes "have you ever noticed that anyone driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone driving faster than you is a maniac?" Funny but true, in my case anyway. That's how I feel when I drive.

I just posted a question similiar to this. I do have a license, but I don't have money to buy a car or put a deposit on one. Hopefully, I will have a car in the near future. I live in a small town and the bus transportation isn't great. Not having a car makes things very difficult for me.
