i would not advise doing that especially not with a dell due to the fact that alot of laptops have poor preformance when heated too much and also can be damaged from overheating (dells have the tendacy for the battery to literally blow up if heated too much) and if its on a charge it may cause quite a bit more damage but id say if it was running off the battery alone youd be safe cause it will shut itself down after the battery drains but if on a charger there are alot of risks including overheating/overheat damage, not being able to monitor possible threats or warning notices, and such. overheating is especially bad for newer laptops since they have higher quality equipment which results in higher heat generation. desktops do not have these problems for many reasons such as think of the size and # differences in a desktop and laptop, and also how a laptop is like a cramped room while a desktop has plenty of cooloff room, also desktops do not have batteries which means there is no worry of battery damage or explosion. im not trying to tell you what to do im just iving you some advice . i have a laptop and leaving it on for more that 6 hours caused some suffiecient damage to it which eventually led to it needing to go to a certified repair shop and having it fully redone (the software anyway all my files were heavily currupt and the whole hard drive needed to be wiped clean and a new windows verion had to be re installed)

I am quite sorry for your damaged laptop though. It seems most people do not have much problem with overheating laptop. But with proper ventilation and cooling, this should not be a problem. Thanks once again!
