I found out this morning that the emoticon ;-) (the wink) is copyright protected! How man times have you used this, not knowing that some guy From Russia says that HE copyrighted it because he was the FIRST to use the emoticon? http://www.foxnews.com/wires/2008Dec11/0,4670,EUODDRussiaTrademarkedEmoticon,00.html I have found that many things that we use is copyright protected! Did you know that the song "Happy Birthday To You" is also copyright protected? It is! lol! Do you know of anything else that is copyright protected, That we still use without permission? OH! ;-)

Quite often, it happens. Whether we're passing on information, particularly from the news or maybe even some other information, it's either copyright-protected or something. I'm sure that someone holds copyrights to songs on singsnap, but people still sing them. Also, at times, someone says something that annoyingly jump-starts a song in your head. Try to enjoy that sunshine on a cloudy day. Oopsie - did I just annoyingly jump-start a song playing in your head?

The songs on sing snap (all of them) are copyright protected, the company purchases the rights to use them for their site.

While I am sure everything is copy righted. I don't think some of the things are a big deal. I mean can they really stop everyone from singing Happy Birthday at kids parties. I don't think so. And the wink come on. That is crazy. Just how does he really know that he was the first to use it there are people all over the world.

Really interesting! In the case of the emoticon and Happy Birthday, the cop;yright issue really only comes into play for public and commercial performances, or use for profit. Although, for the wink, I wonder how 'deritive' works are treated - like this one
