Yes! Ballroom dancing is not big in my area, but I started classes back in 1999; had to stop after getting married in April 2005. In that time I've gone through four dance teachers. I've performed two Showcase Presentations before a judging panel (received written critiques, trophies, etc), video camera, professional photographer & live audience of peers. I've never had a steady dance partner. I've completed a final exam for the FATD award to Bronze standard in front of interstate judges, videographers, photographers & live audience of peers. During those years, I danced two private lessons per week, attended three group sessions a week & attended regular socials & Balls arranged by my school. I've been continuously assessed on over twenty different dance styles in the categories of Modern, Latin & New Vogue. I first took up dance lessons as a result of my work with the Church. For two years running, I transformed our very poor turnout Annual Ball into a highly successful event, which twice filled the Rec Center with over 635 youth from as far away as Victoria (exceeding capacity - up from 180 the previous year).
The style we are taught here is very Americanized & quite different to that practiced by the English for the same dances. I wouldn't have known this had I not ventured over to the Northern Districts Ballroom Club which is one of the oldest & very, very English! I probably attended there each time a dance event was held, maybe once a fortnight for over a year & made some good friends, though most of them have since departed this life.

Yes, thank you. They waxed the floor far too much in the first one! Every second dance couple hit the floor or nearly did at least once! Those who scored highest seemed to be those who both fell & subsequently made a graceful recovery!.
How about you?

I learned and danced salsa L.A style for more than 3 years now and I keep doing it every 2 weeks.
Half a year ago , I learned ballroom dance for 2 month and I found two Cons about it:
1) most of the time , there is no leading , you have to learn all the dance from the beggining to the end. In salsa the guy can lead and decide what to do.
2) there is no night club in my country that one can actually go to and dance ballroom dances into the night just for fun (don't consider competitions , it doesn't count) it was only 90 minuts of learning some steps in cha cha , valtz , slowfox , rumba , tango , argentinian tango , samba or whatever... and then go home.
It is very surprising to know that ballroom dance was in my country a lot before the salsa L.A ...but salsa is a lot more popular and danced in salsa clubs.

I don't know how to ballroom dance :( I don't think I'm graceful enough anyways. Haha I'm so clumsy! But they have a ballroom dancing class at my university for free. I think I'm going to start going to meetings and lessons eventually. It looks so pretty to dance ballroom.

Yeah, i love ballroom dancing but i'm not part of it.. lol =D I'm only a huge fan of it.. I like ballroom dancing very much because there are so many different types of dances to it, such as samba, chacha, rumba, jazz etc.. hehe ^_^ I like all their dance moves, they are smooth and yet so strong. Their twist and turns, makes the whole dance looks so nice and simple.. hehe

At my school, once we reached ninth grade, it was very common to sign up for ballroom classes at our local dance school. Two hours a week for ten weeks to learn the basics with a ball at the end. A boy in the neighborhood I was friends with asked me to attend advanced classes with him because he wanted to learn more. After that we just didn't have time anymore. Once I started college my parents took classes and became very versed in ballroom dancing.
Now that was back in Germany. Here in the US ballroom dancing has become a bit more popular especially since they started that Dancing with the Stars show, but it didn't really catch on that well. Our local ballet school offers basic classes but more in the Latin category. I taught my girls how to waltz. They are a bit young (the oldest is seven) for more detailed instructions. But I very much hope that one day they get the chance to learn ballroom dancing. Unfortunately my husband is not much of a dancer and I rarely get to, but even he learned how to waltz for our wedding dance;)

Hi there Anne18
I used to love to dance with my dad but we don't go anywhere nowadays to do that sort of thing anymore, weddings maybe. It's not a big thing down South, not much interest not even since Strictly Come Dancing has aired!

My daughters do not do Ballroom dancing, but they do disco dancing. My eldest daughter Won the UK title when she was 14 years old. They have hundreds of trophies in there bedrooms (they where taking over my lounge).
As for ball room dancing I used to do it as a child. I was quite good and won a few small competitions. I was really good at the cha-cha. That was my favourite.
I really love all the custumes also. They are beautiful. My daughters disco dancing custumes are beautiful to but they are so expensive. Sometimes we have to do fund raisers for their club to raise the cash as some of the girls parents cannot aford them and their daughters are really good dancers.

I am not learning any kind of dance. I loved to dance, but it does not love me lol I am terrible at dancing. And it is really hard for me to pick up on the steps. I tried to dance in front of a crowd before. I tried a modern dance and it was awful and awkward. It's like a big joke.
