Where you find your Travel Deals

I've been shopping around for prices for a few trips that I am planning next year. One being a cruise and another a trip to San Diego. My issue is that I have to go to a few different websites to purchase different portions of the trip at the lowest price. I found for my San Diego trip Travelocity has the best packaged price when I purchase the hotel and air together and add the SeaWorld tickets. But when I go to the airline website and the hotel site separately and purchase from there, I save a little bit ($50). Should I go with the savings or with the convenience of one transaction. I've had really good luck booking my travel online in the past and with the economy the way it is, there are some great deals out there. How do you book your travel?

I don't but I heard on a show that you have to clean your history then go back to a site. As that way they don't remember you. You can then get the Travel deals even cheaper as they know how much you wanted to spend before as they tracked your comp. So this time clean your history then try. just a idea heard it on the news. Hi rjbass.. Tonight Im about to book my boyfriend, some friends and I trip to Rome. I compared prices from travel agency of their package deal to separate deals I found on some websites. It turned out that booking the hotel and air separately is more cheap than booking a package deal. Though I know its not as convenient as booking it from a travel agency. Since our trip is on a budget I will choose the one that is economical. With yours, you should weigh what you value most, is it convenience or savings. Goodluck to both of us and happy mylotting!

Thank you for the reply. Yes, my budget is far thinner for leisure travel than in prior years and a $50 saving does seem enticing. But, I am traveling with my wife and 3 small children (wish me luck...lol) and having an itinerary laid out by booking it all together may outweigh the savings. Just one less thing for me to worry about.

I check airlines web fares and look at comparison sites like Cheap Flights to find reasonable fares. In the past I tended to use travel agents like ones for students and backpackers. I remember getting great deals on the Amtrak web site on train tickets before I went to the USA. For my trip in January I compared all the different flight prices London to Cape Town non stop and direct. I also looked at fares from Bristol to Cape Town via Amsterdam. I have reserved accommodation for my first five nights. I look in travel guide books to find reasonable accommodation prices.

Thank you for this post. I haven't tried Cheap Flights as one of my comparison sites. I'll check them out. That is another good point. Sometimes you can find a cheaper flight if you choose 1 stop instead of direct.

You hit it on the nose...the reason I am considering convenience rather than savings. Of course if the savings is high enough, it's a no brainer that I save but I am traveling with my 3 small children so there is a lot to be said for avoiding the long unnecessary layovers.

Yes, one stop is cheaper than going direct. I flew to the Seychelles via Nairobi and going out there was great. However coming home I had a really long wait in Nairobi. I would go via Amsterdam but direct is for my toddler son's sake. I think you will like Cheap Flights.

Well, I am always trying to save a buck here and there so I say go with the lowest prices always. I would thoroughly investigate all the options that are out there and then buy whatever is the least expensive. Also, there are sites you can shop through for airfare and hotels that you can earn a little rebate back too. It is usually not very much but it is a little something extra. Good luck in your shopping and on your vacation. San Diego is beautiful and so much fun! Are you going to Orange County too? Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm are out there. Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

I am actually also going to OC and visiting Disneyland and Knott's. We're planning a character breakfast on of the mornings. The kids will love it

It must be nice to be able to book vacations and travel. When I go somewhere it is usually for business or some kind of emergency. So when I go I usually drive myself.

I used to travel quite a bit on business; almost every other week. I got to see so many beautiful places and now that my kids are old enough, I want to share some of these places with them

I am tired with traveling for a while. If I book my travel, it has to be the best deal on the block. I check all travel sites and local dealers before I buy any ticket or vacation deals.

That's what I try to do also. It's a lot of research and time but the savings can be enormous if you just look for the deals.

I always look for the least expensive way to book my trip. I would rather spend less money on airfare and hotel and have some extra money to spend when I get to my destination. Check every site that you can think of. I've found sometimes found significant differences in price at the hotels between Expedia and Hotels.com.

Yea, me too. I'm moving more towards the savings. I'm goign to search around for some sort of online coupon for Travelocity or Hotels.com, etc. and see what I come up with.
