You are from india, right?
I think nvidia 8600gt is a good graphics card to buy for that budget.
The prices are
XFX 8500GT 256MB DDR2 –Rs.2,600
XFX 8500GT 512MB DDR2 –Rs.3,200
XFX 8600GT 256MB DDR3 –Rs.4,200
XFX 8600GT 512MB DDR2 –Rs.4,100
Graphics card is essential for playing games, you can also upgrade the ram to 1 gb after having the graphics card

dreamer, with 1GB of ram, you won't be able to utilise a modern graphics card full potential. Of course, it varies on the game but most new games run much better with 2GB than 1GB. My machine had 2GB but I recently added another 2GB to make 4GB because games like Crysis and Sims 2 simply did not run as well as I liked on maximum detail/resolution.
I recommend you get an NVIDIA 9600GT 512MB but be sure you have a PCI-Express slot on your motherboard, as AGP won't be compatible.

hey buddy, trust me, you would not want to play any 3g game on a 512 ram. I mean come on you need more room. even vista which is an operating system need about 1 gig to fully function properly. I also suppose you are really into these next gen games which requires a lot of firepower , codename : memory. The money you have can be sufficient for one of the best graphic cards from the nvidia. Well you could ague that ati is also cool and all that but face it, is like comparing intel to amd. They all have merits and demerits but certainly nvidia is a way better choice. I guess others have recommended it too. So all you need to do is upgrade your ram and/or buy a graphic card with dedicated memory of say 256 or more. You should be fine to play the next gen games for a while and your budget should be fine to take you there I promise. Good luck

i agree with u i don't have enough graphics to play the next generation games and i also want to play them now and 3d games are also not supported by my computer and the last game which i played was GTA San Andreas without a graphic card it also struggled a lot during the progress of the game but i some how managed .but now a days each and every game is asking for the graphic card which is pretty hard for me .so i came to a conclusion that i should upgrade my system with the graphic card
i really need to upgrade it to 1 GB

I don't know if you know about the internal workings of your pc but, do you have a pci express or agp slot? These two slots are ultimately where you will install your graphics card. You will have one slot or the other but not both. Also, I guess if you can increase your memory or ram then you should increase it to the maximum that your system can handle. Here's a good website for your to checkout, it's www.cruicial.com They have a free scan that scans your system and tells you what memory you have in your system and what you can upgrade to. I use this on my own system and it's terrific. I would check you ram, this is the first thing I would do. You can then purchase a graphics card from www.newegg.com I use this site myself and it isn't bad. By the way, if you don't have either the agp or pci express slot then hopefully you have a normal pci slot free and you will have to pick up a standard pci graphics card. Good luck. Andrew
