How Well Do Your Children Take Their Medicine?

We all know how YUCKY medicine can taste, but they do try to make medicine taste better for children, but still it doesn't taste very good. My 7 year old daughter always has to have a glass of water when she takes medicine. My 2 year old son though doesn't seem to have a problem with it at all, I say, "Let's take your medicine" and he runs over to the counter where he knows I have it sitting and just waits for me to get out the teaspoon and give it to him. No problems. How well do your children take their medicine?

My kids both hate to take their medicine if it is liquid. My son is fine about swallowing a pill. He has a cough right now and I have to mix his cough syrup in some juice in order for him to take it without a fight. I normally mix it for my daughter too or it will be all over the place.

My daughter isn't very good taking a pill. She starts gagging when she does. Hopefully when she gets a little older she will get better at swallowing them. Thanks for the comment!

The way I taught my son to take pills was to have him tip his head back and open his mouth. I would drop the pill in his mouth at the back of his throat and then pour a small amount of water in his mouth. Then I would tell him to tip his head forward ans swallow. It seemed to help him learn fairly quickly. Now he has no problem at all.

I will have to try that with my daughter. Maybe that will help her learn how to swallow them too. Thanks for the tip!

hello, how lucky you are that your children so easy to have their medicine. me my god i always have a problem with that specially my 1 year and 6months old son, sometimes i just don't give him the medicine because he always threw it away.i don't know to do.i just let him drink lot of water but if he really to take it i use dropper and hold him tight, open her mouth until he swallow the meds. my daughter have no problem with that she love to take medicine because she knows it can cure the pain.as long as she have a lot of water in her side:)

My children do not like taking medicine at all. I have to trick them into taking anything. I guess that isn't all bad though. I would rather have them not want their medicine than wanting it all the time. But I guess that is just another part of parenting.

My sons had no problem taking medicine. They had to take that horrible pink stuff when they were small, because they always seemed to get pneumonia and they got used to it. The medicine was nice tasting. It did have its problems, it started them wanting to eat candies because of the sugar in it.

My daughter has gotten better about taking her medicine over the last year. There were times when we had to wrestle her to get her to take her medicine. Sometimes, the only way to get her to take it, would be to toss it into a cup of juice and she took it that way.

My oldest one (age 12) always did pretty well. My little one (age 6) went through a phase where he wouldn't take certain medicines. It was pretty bad. He would either spew it or he would start choking on it until he puked. Needless to say it was quite stressful. At one point he had strep and knowing that Amoxicilian (sp?) was one of the medicines he couldn't get down, we had to get him a shot instead. I felt really horrible about that, but I knew it was so important for him to get the medicine. Luckily, now he pretty much takes anything.

I have been very lucky with all five of my children i have never had much problems with getting them to take medicine. The only problem i have had is with my youngest he absolutely refuses to take any strawberry flavoured medicine like Calpol. He will shut his mouth tightly or if you do manage to get it in his mouth he spits it out. So now we stick to orange flavoured medicine which he takes with no problem.

When I first met my ex he told me that he couldn't take pills. I thought he was just joking then he got really sick and was going to take some tylenol and I seen him start gagging and having a hard time getting it down. It was hard not to laugh.

Eat Organic Veggies! - Organic veggies are nutritionally superior and have no GMO's or harmful pesticides. Better bang for the buck really.
singlemommy, My daughter has always been good about taking her medicine....except that one time I tried to give her Robitussin. That stuff is VILE!!! I usually buy her the good-tasting stuff. She likes mixed-berry the best. That is, when I buy her over-the-counter medication. Usually, I go for the natural, homemade remedies. That and I feed her a healthy diet. Every morning I start her off with filtered water, rice protien powder, blackstrap molasses and the local raw honey. That plus the absence of high fructose corn syrup, artificial sweeters, white sugar and nutritionally valueless junk-food keeps us pretty healthy. Prevention is the best cure. Happy MyLotting!

It's too difficult. My son is 2 years old now. Every time he takes medicine he'll cry and we need 3 people to put him down. I pray for his healthy and then he need not take medicine.

My child who is three years old doesn't fuss in taking medicine, she just open her mouth and drink it in a gulp. However she fusses about lots of other things, like normal toddlers too, sometimes she drives me crazy. I have to be extra careful with her regarding medicine, since sometimes she cries to have medicine even if she falls. Medicines have to be stored in a place where children couldn't reach since these are so dangerous.

my doctors always seems to give us medicine that tastes of banana. so my daughter (4 y/o)now refuses to touch anything that looks like smells like or tastes like banana, so we mentioned it to the doctord an she gave us a strawberry one... thinking we could now fool my daughter we tried to give her the strawberry one, now she hates strawberry products too. the only way we seem to be able to get medicine into her is either injection, which she seems to be ok with having, or pesery form, which i refuse to do

As for my 3 year old daughter, it depends on the medicine. If it is flu or fever medicine ( usually sweet ones (, then it is okay for her. She will just want to take them easily and even feed herself to it. But if it is antibiotics and those stomach wind medicine, then she will always try avoiding it and resist it.

My oldest isn't too willing to take medicine, unless he is feeling very poorly. My youngest on the other hand takes it like candy. But then again he had to take antibiotics from 2 months of age until he was 3 years old, so he is used to having to take medicine when needed.

Getting kids with medicines is indeed a difficult task.My 10 year old daughter still finds it difficult to swallow a tablet, often ending with vomitting. But she feels ease to have an injection in her veins. And my 4 year old son is scared of injections and he always insist on tonics which are sweet for him.Our family doctor is very much kind to give our kids what they prefer. Thanks to her!
