I don't read newspapers now. I used too but because of so many brutal issues in the papers I prefer to read Readers Digest or issues about celebrities or fiction stories. There was a man who is in his seventy's who told me he didn't want to read newspapers because of the unending crimes of all kinds and all that is happening in this world. He said he wanted to live his old age in a more peaceful way and he only read the Reader's Digest.

I read several online newspapers, including my local paper. I also read papers from other places/cities, I've lived in. While there is a lot of bad news and violence reported in the newspaper, there is also some good. I read to stay informed on local, state, and national issues. I think it is our duty as citizens to stay informed of these issues. How can we change anything, or stand up for our rights, if we do not know what is going on around us. I can't really blame the elderly gentleman for only reading Reader's Digest, but I do think that each of us has a civic responsibility to keep up to date on the important issues that face or countries and world.

Not anymore.I don't want to spend buying newspapers when I can have the important news in television and in the internet.Sorry for the publisher of newspapers if their sales will not rise up.I can only read newspapers when I'm waiting for a long line in the bank, read their newspapers too but will not buy.I hate to see most of their published item about politics. It only makes me irritable.

i still read newspaper regularly, i admit, it doesn't contain lots of "peaceful" news but it is what's happening with the world. so i guess you just have to accept it. Reader's Digest are to keep you updated on certain issues like politics and medical issues. but the newspaper helps to keep you updated on the current news and the finiancial world. so newspaper don't only contain "bad" news, they are a great source of info for sports, finance and laughter.

Yeah. Who reads newspapers nowadays, when we have INTERNET!
Every day I start with browsing Sites of News, read the main titles, the most interesting ones I dig and read more. Also I watch videos of news, but it is also on the web. I do not like newspapers, also I think of all those trees that were cut down in order to produce one newspapers, and about all those other thousands and millions of newspapers. And all those chemicals that went into the nature, colors, metals, etc. I would like to eliminate the amount of newspapers that one company is allowed to produce. Or take some other actions.

I do read newspapers everyday. I actually read four. I know that eventually I will have to quit most of them due to finances. I realize alot of the written publications are going out of business, or switching to the web only format. I like the ability to read an actual paper. See the colored pictures, turn the pages, clip the coupons. I know. I know. I am stuck in the dark ages. I didn't want to give up my manual typewriter for an electric; give up my electric typewriter for a computer. Change is hard for me.

I don't often read newspaper everyday. However, I do read the news via the net everyday. It's fast and you can read different kinds of news that you like. It's much more interesting, especially it is colorful and attached a photo.

Yes I agree that news are becoming more and more troubling these days. However, it is my habit to read newspaper daily in the morning since childhood and I'm still doing that.

I don't read a reg newspaper everyday. To get my news I get it on the internet and go to various news sites that my county has. That's how I receive the news. Better do it that way then paying to geta newspaper. But the only thing I like to read in a reg newspaper is the police records n who got arrested etc. See if it's anyone I know. That's basically it.

hi there Masmasika! although in my country (Philippines), there are always bad news in the newspapers (corrupt president, corrupt husband of the president, corrupt son of the president, corrupt politicians, corrupt police, corrupt military, crime, accidents, disasters, etc.), i still would like to read the newspaper daily.
i want to be aware of how the things around me are doing (mostly worse). it also helps me gain an insight about what's going on around the country and around the world. it also helps me think of ways to avoid getting myself into trouble one of these days (for example, how to avoid getting robbed, kidnapped, or something like that).
reading the Business section of the newspaper (and by visiting Bloomberg's website and my newspaper's website) also helps me make wise decisions in my main sideline, which is trading stocks. news articles help me with my fundamental analysis, and even with the technical analysis as well.
and lastly, the newspaper has a lighter side with it: comics, horoscope and lifestyle sections. i love reading them because they're so much fun, entertaining, insightful and inspiring. =) so, despite all the bad news typical of a day in my country, there is still reason to smile and be happy about it.
thanks and more power to you! =)

Yes, this is true but there’s no way escaping our realities. Reader’s Digest has many inspirational articles and I love their jokes section but it does not keep me updated on world events. Apart from the violence and the grisly tales, there’s so much nice and encouraging happening too. Not reading the news or watching it on TV is kind of cutting oneself off from the world, which I don’t like to do.

Its true. Everyday newspapers carry a lot of news which makes us feel that 'is it actually worth living on this earth?' I catch up with all my news in weekly and fortnightly magazines and on net.
