What in H is an underwater bra?

So a few nights ago, this co-worker of mine started talking about how her underwater bra is bothering her. She has to do something with the wire every now and then. Of course, I acted like I knew what she was talking about although I have never heard of that kind. So privately, I thought I was way behind the women's underwear fashion world. And why does she need to wear an underwater bra when we're nowhere near water at all?
And then today, I read a discussion about an underwire bra. And heaven opened, the angels sang and trumpeted and the light bulb ascended over my head. My co-worker was talking about an underwire bra and I completely misheard her.
Have you ever misheard something that has puzzled you for several days and then you figure it out and you feel smart and stupid at the same time?

Well, some of the underwater bras are also underwire and it is possible that was the term your co-worker used, but since my generation labored so hard to rid women of the bizarre and even then antiquated requirement that women wear bras in the workplace, it is with great bewilderment that I see in every women's clothing store the return of the bra. Furthermore, they are gigantic! I was looking for panties sized to fit a normal adult woman, and given that they do shrink, did not want anything that was going to end up being size 2 or 3 which by comparison to bra sizes would be a AAAAA cup. And wow, they were all like size 6 but the bras were 85s I think, so I wondered what shape these manufacturers think women are. Maybe they design them for some other species.

I think it is total social indoctrination. I didn't feel comfortable the first day I woke up and started to get dressed for work only to find that hubby (without telling me!) had burned all of mine in a protest the night before. Hah! But I got used to it. When I got home I did sit down and tell him a couple things about a woman's right to choose, however. Like he thought he was so cute being a "feminist" duhhhh.

I almost went to the store without wearing one but I did. I caved in.
Your husband is very enjoyable, drannhh. But you are right, sometimes, they assume for us and such assumptions don't really work well if we believe otherwise.
Thank you again.

Bras were 85s? Are you going metric on me here, drannhh?
I love love how you mention some history of the bra. Burning of the bras would have been something to watch. But as is the world, older generations make steps forward on while the next one takes them back a step or two. But I must confess I don't think I would feel comfortable leaving the house without wearing one.
Thanks drannhh.

I am the lucky guy SaintAnne that gets to struggle with foreign language pronunciations all the time! It sounds one way when I hear it, yet when I say what I think the word is, then I get looks of horror mixed with incredulity from people around me. For example, someone will teach me the words for "good morning, how are you?" in Arabic; and when I say it how I think THEY said it, I will end up telling someone that I wish to massage their Grandma or something equally as stupid! By the way, underwire bra or underwater bra makes no difference really as they're all comin' off eventually!

LOL. James, I can't believe you hinted at something "physical" and then mentioned Grandma in the same paragraph.
I once remember my dad coming home one night and he talked about his Australian client. He had a hard time understanding him what with the different accent and all.
Anyway, for some people, I guess your version of good morning in Arabic could actually be a good one!

My Australian accent is not strong at all as it is tinged with a British accent as well. Most people when they meet me for the first time think I am actually from the UK. When I do lay on the heavy Aussie accent purposely though, many people do look at me and wonder what the heck I'm saying sometimes! lol. It's not so much an issue for people from other English speaking countries to understand Australian accents, but many from non-English speaking countries do seem to struggle with it sometimes from my experience.

I think you're right with ESL individuals. I do have to strain a bit to understand someone with a British or Australian accent. Hell, I sometimes have to strain a bit to understand someone from the US with a different accent.
Put the sheila on the barbie.

Hi anne! What the hell is going on with you lately? First
you are having all these accidents, now your hearing things
wrong! Are you sure your head is ok from that last accident?
I'm lmao over the "underwater bra"! I wear underwire bras
all the time and they are friggen miserable sometimes! If
you are a full busted woman (like me) then you have to wear
them! I just read the discussion again and I'm still lmao!
You are too funny lately! Anyway, sometimes the wires poke
out and stab you in the boob and it hurts like hell! They
are the only kind of bras that I can wear and they are so
expensive and uncomfortable and then the damn wire ends up
stabbing you!

That's what she said, Opal. You said what I heard my co-worker complain.
I think I'm sick again. My throat is killing me right now but it's just that. It's nowhere near as awful as a few weeks ago.
Good luck with your underwire, Opal. Thanks!

I read the title and my first response was that would be an underwire bra on someone with a speech impedement! LOL

Apparently, fasttalker, I have a hearing impediment.
Always glad to make someone laugh. Now if I get a dollar for every time someone laughs at me...

I guess it will save us from wasting time if we just ask if we heard right. But then, people will assume we're a bit on the slow side. Thanks, angel of charm. It's nice to see you back here again. take care.

I have not been able to get on here for a few days as my mobile internet was not working. I was feeling miserable about it so when I got onto mylot I thought I would go on to the panda spanking to cheer myself up. Well you certainly did. Thankyou saintanne. I had a really good laugh. I am always mishearing things and feeling a right fool.
